"Alangara - New Dawn" - Persistent world
« on: January 26, 2015, 07:25:36 pm »

Greetings Fellow nwn1 players.

After 9 years of absense the original creators team of Alangara have relaunched our old server albeit with massive changes and improvements.

Tons of areas have been redone to scale with the CEP 2.6 we are now running and many new have come.

Alangara is a mid- to highlevel magic server with lots of spellchanges, custom monsters etc to make for a harsh inviroment calling for friends to group up to overcome the ever excalating dangers that no adventurer may best alone. The setting takes place in a selfinventet part of faerun known as the "Inner Realms" and as such draws upon all known lore of the game itself aswell as our own custom aditions.

You level up very fast the first levels and can basically hunt down quests allmost continuously from level 1 to 20 after which more quests are indeed available but much harder. The option of our special reborn setting also means that the game may evolve again after normal level 40. Our server litterally holds content and playability for years of gaming for a standard gamer, and challanges for even the most hardined ones.

You can learn much much more at our forum at www.alangara.dk ( follow the direct link there ) , and have a little teaser in the screenshot gallery.

Find us at:

Direct Login IP: 5.9.60.55:5122

or

www.yourserverlist.com under nwn1 roleplay section

Since we have just relaunched our playerbase is at an absolute minimum still but the whole server design makes for a great and immersing singleplayer game aswell for those willing to give us a try and those of us around are obviously helpfull and friendly '<img'>

Interesting looking server. You have some strict rules about multi-classing though. Why so much hate for clerics, monks and Pale Masters? Also after reading the rules about gods, I have to wonder if being ''atheist'' is allowed as a viable RP option.

Greetings Icywind1980 and thanks for your interest in our server '<img'>

We dont have any "hate" for any classes but we have had to remove a few to hold true to our vision of overall gameballance between classes and the surrounding inviroment. For instance we dont want players to be able to be imune to critically hits...

As for the priest singleclass restriction it has dual purpose. Technically we believe the priest is strong enough in itself and dont want it to be even stronger with combinations of other classes - mind you that i always played priest myself on the server and usually people would "complain" about the SINGLEclass priests being somewhat overpowered. Also bare in mind that many spells continues to evolve after level 20.

RP wise we decided that the gods only wish to grant their boons of spells to those truly and utterly dedicated to them and thus priest is a singleclass.

Atheist is indeed a RP-wise Integrated option. The gods only take offense on those who speak evil of them. If you dont believe in them or choose to advocate for a world where "men" pays no heed or respect to gods then they will not interveen - directly !

( a God might contact his or her priests or other followers and let them know your changing of heart would be apreciated.. or perhaps the god would contact you for whatever foul schemes we DMs might Cook up... )

I hope this answer your questions and feel free to add more if you have or come give us a visit on the server and see for yourself '<img'>

This does sound interesting indeed. How do you feel about ''role-play light'' players? Those kind of players who really only RP when there are others around and just grind/run quests other times?

Are the only haks needed the CEP?

Also er du dansker?

Hi Again Icywind1980 '<img'>

As for the roleplay part the server is really designed in such a way that you can entertain yourself by questing/grinding etc to your Hearts content. Our philosophy always were that whereas roleplay offers great fun the server itself , while indeed having lots of content and areas designed purely for roleplaying purposes, should be challenging and fun gamewise. SO basically you can grind and fight your way through the World and its tons of predefined quests to your Hearts content '<img'>

We also allow people in groups to speak however they should so chose in Group chat and while others are not arround. So basically while you "roleplay in public" you can chat about todays real life at job or whatever amongst friends all you like. Most important is really just to enjoy yourself and make it so for others aswell.

And yes i ( Tarashon ) and Seeker are indeed Danish which the language of your questions suggests you are aswell ? '<img'>

Finally we only use the ( awesome ) CEP hak yes, which is now upgraded to version 2.6 on the server

I'm very interested in checking this out. Is CEP 2.6 required or can we still log in with CEP 2.4?

Det er jeg faktisk ikke. Jeg er bare indvandrer '<img'>

Hi Again icywind1980 '<img'>

Unfortunately modules are never backwards compatible so once you upgrade a module to CEP 2.6 players need that to be able to enter the server. However CEP itself is always backward compatible so it is not a problem to upgrade to CEP 2.6 even if you play also at servers with fx 2.4...

If folks still play on PWs using CEP 2.3/2.4, they should also add the two "fixes" found on the CEP 2.60 page. In modules that used the Bioware extension options, CEP 2.60 will cause issues without these fixes.

- Download and install CEP 2.60 first.

- Download and allow to overwrite the two fixes posted below the main 2.60 download.

Here's a link to the CEP 2.60 Download Page: http://neverwintervault.org/cep

Thanks Kalbaern! I saw those fixes when I was downloading the CEP 2.6 but had no idea what they were for, so I left them alone. I will update them now.

Greetings all '<img'>

Thanks to a playerinput ( from icywind1980 ) the module now has a specific "model shop" where players can customize the looks of their armors and clothing without the need for the craft armor skill; and also being able to customize plot armors found in game...

Also the main city, Castle Balder, have had some major rebuilding to reflect and utilize the many wonderfull new placeables in CEP 2.6. Basically all shops are now "an adventure" in themselves and no one should "suffer" the foul look of generic shop looks.

Mercenaries have been upgraded to help players in these times of "not so many nwn1 players left" .

Also severel NPC dialogs have been made more informative to guide new players around, making the transition into the server as fluently and pleasent as possible.

The work continues, and we obviously hope that players looking for a new home will consider giving Alangara a chance. Drop by and you might get a positive surprise in how NWN1 can look these days '<img'> . And remember we truly are open for suggestions to make our little world more enjoyable - allthough we also might say no if we find the ideas does not correspond with our overall philosophy.

Yes this server is fantastically pretty. Like pretty I've never seen from NWN before. What they did with the city and shops especially is amazing. Also there is no lack of interesting things to do, quests to run, places to explore. Check it out!

I looked briefly at it about two weeks back I think?  I encountered some things that made me wonder, but maybe you can explain them?

1, I noticed you're given an "Intimate Actions" wand that...seems to have a LOT of *really* intimate actions.  Like, goes beyond anything found in even A Dance With Rogues or Gladiatix.  Is that the kind of server it is?

2, there were a lot of spelling errors and/or typos (especially in regards to capitalization).  Felt very unpolished and was very distracting.  Reading this thread has indicated that English isn't your primary language which helps explain it...but your posts here on the forum are much more polished than the in-game stuff.

3, several of the "starting" quests involved a lot of time finding an NPC, running halfway across the map, running back to the NPC, running across three maps, and running back to the same NPC.  A lot of running back and forth that wasn't much fun for me, why is that?

4, the mobs don't seem to spawn very much.  In the underground area with the skeletons I kept having to wait around for the encounter spawn timers to reset (which doubly hurt since the ring drop was low).  Along those lines, I cheerfully wore two of the rings and got a third to take back to the quest giver -- who then gave me the ring back.  I think the quest said something about not wearing them (and in fact the quest progress doesn't count your equipped slots which might be why) but it was also a weird situation (and then the third ring I had wouldn't be bought by vendors).

Hello there MagicalMaster '<img'>

First and foremost thanks for taking the time to write here and secondly let me answer your questions as best i can.

1.

The "intimate action wand" was merely put in as an option for adult players "because we could". Back in the days when the server ran i have never noticed any players using it. But then again those who would use it would obviously not do it in public but perhaps rather in their homes etc...

So to answer your question - No, it is not "that kind" of a server.

2.

You are correct that English is not my first language ( which is Danish ) but perhaps more so correct in that i simply did not give enough attention to the spelling back then. That was admitably a mistake and we are currently working on running over the conversations to clear them of typos and errors of various sorts. The intire start and city area has allready been "run over" for these isues and while there still might be a few mistakes i have missed, the overall impression should be dramatically improved.

Besides these spelling errors ( we are working on ) i asure you this module ( World ) is highly polished.

3.

The first quest NPC in Littleforest does indeed ask you to go to town after helping her in the forest which i can see might be a bit boring running all the way back. Critisism is taken and as a result i will make a token to take the player back to her after running ones errands in Castle Balder. This will be ingame a couple of hours from when this reply is posted '<img'>

* EDIT - hometoken is now ingame and gametested *

Besides this, shopping in Castle Balder have however been improved with f.x. a poster stand right when you enter Castle Balder, that informs you of the various shops in various districts, to make it easier for newcomers to find their way.

4.

The problem with the underground area seemes odd to me. Did you read the quest description and actually enter the city past the gorge, or did you just stay out in the "entrance tunnels" ? In the actual ancient city there should be enough spawns for you to continuesly run around and kill them - atleast that is my experience...

As for the quest with rings is based only on those in inventory then the generel idea was to make sure that starting players got a few of those rings to keep and aid them...

Adressing the sellability to vendors isue, severel "found" items are'nt sellable. This might seem distracting to some ( including you ) but it gives us the opportunity to make certain items easy/free optainable while at the same time not compromising server economy - thus many "drops" are marked as plot, ie unsellable. Others are marked as stolen giving rogues and bards an extra economy boost as they can sell those items in their guild - if they can actually find it and become members that is...

I hope this answers your questions and once again thanks for taking the time to write here.

If our server could not fullfill your expectations i hope you find another that suits your needs '<img'>

I found the two rings needed for the quest within 10 mins of playing. I was solo. It wasn't that low.
