From an old NWN1 RP Player
« on: October 12, 2014, 12:03:18 pm »

Today I searched steam for games like those of old, like NWN which is still my favorite game experience of all time, as long as it was online and in a role-playing persistent world. I found nothing, but a lot of games that still have the same graphics, they aren't even trying anymore.

Then memories about the goold old days of NWN came flowing back, but sadly my old community is long gone for what I know. I still keep in touch with two of them that I know in real life on team speak.

I want to go back to playing NWN with them, but we have tried servers like the big ones, however they are not for us, they are too large, too empty, not intimate enough like the ones we used to play on.

We used to get lost deep deep inside one way area transitions where everything would be hostile, and you would have to fight your way out of re-spawns to get back to the small town where everyone started and spawned, and where you would always meet other good role-playing players.

Venturing out would be risky, especially at level 8 an on-wards. You didn't loose levels, but if you died you could be pretty sure that hours and hours of XP was lost, along with a random amount of your equipment and gold. Going out there would however bring you fortunes. The deeper you went, the more XP you would gain as the creatures you had to slay would become harder to kill, and you would need people to go there with. You would be randomly rewarded with magic items found in special chests in boss lairs.

Magic items would be low in power, and buying magic items from vendors above +1 was nearly unheard of, unless you had a token of distinction from a DM that proved you were a good role-player, and was fit to join a militia for example. This was good, it made you work for it, and since you couldn't advance across level 10 without a ToD, you would roleplay your best to impress the DMs. finding a +2 item with firedamage would sell for very good money on the private market, but it would also make you a target for theives and evil players.

These servers were the original; Daggerdale, Rashemen that came after daggerdale fell, and another after than one again that I don't remember the name of. They were detailed, but intimate, low in magic items, medium in leveling from environment, no special classes like RDD, harsh death, hard enemies, many quests in all level segments, many secrets.

If you people who know what I'm speaking of are still out there, and perhaps know of a module like this, or if you just see what I did here, I want to talk to you.

You can find me and a few others from these days on TS3 @ htpc.chariot.no or send me an email @ ketil.lidahl@gmail.com
