As an ex-team member I can only imagine that your feedback is greatly welcomed Rolaskatox and I'm glad TER left you feeling motivated enough to make your first post here about us - your cheque is in the post! '>
I'm actually posting a reply just to manage expectations. The guys that run and play at TER are pretty much normal folk with normal personality traits.
- There will and have been heated debates and disagreements that have turned sour.
- There will and have been play and RP styles that may not be to everyone's liking.
- There will and have been customised settings that will not be to your preference.
- The number of players and level of DM coverage will ebb and flow due to a variety of external factors.
- There will be bugs, spikes in difficulty and gremlins.
We are not the promised land! We try our best and I think the current team's best is pretty darn good.
I know you meant no offence, but I have to add that while some of the player base is close, friendly and enjoy each other's company I can say without fear of contradiction that it is not a clique - the team have admitted Assistant DMs (and more senior staff) from different server (and indeed gaming) backgrounds etc. There are numerous players who are, as you suggest, very inclusive and receptive to new players and characters. Despite our myriad flaws and human failings, being unwelcoming to new players out of some sense of "clique" culture, isn't one of them. I myself tonight met some new players, stuck my nose into their IC business and by the end of the RP session my character ended up signing a contract of employment with their group.
EDIT: I'd also add that while there may not be a hard and fast rule about OOC, there are both OOC and IC areas in the server. In the IC ones the main goal is very much roleplaying your character although even a po-faced grump like myself will dip into the odd OOC remark.
