Welcome to The Vast, a NWN persistent world server based in the Forgotten Realms.
The Vast launched out of beta at the beginning of 2003, and ran 24/7 for years; after 2007 it had its ups and
downs, on and off times, and in 2012 was brought back to life by its original creators after a few years offline.
The setting is at the foot of – and into – the Earthspur Mountains, north of the River Vesper at the far northern end of The Vast where goblins, orcs, and other foul evils besiege the land.

GameSpy no longer lists NWN servers, so you must use Direct Connect.

Enter the following address in the Direct Connect box when you join internet multiplayer:
play.nwnthevast.net

The Vast uses the CEP 2.4
HAK, the tilesets from Project Q, and a compilation of other
Vast-specific hak files; you must have these installed to log in to the
server. You must also have NWN and both BioWare expansions (SoU &
HotU), and have the final BioWare patch (1.69) installed to join.

The Vast is a Light Magic, Low to Mid Level heavy Role Play Server.
We are seeking like minded role players to come experience this rebirth of a world

The vast is also using the TORO tile set haks that make the world look almost as good as NWN2. simply breathtaking.

We are a top-notch role-play server with a focus on DM-driven storylines, and player-initiated quests. There is usually at least one DM-run story in progress. Players might also arrange a group trip to a specific location (AtraAngelis does this frequently), and a DM will often jump in to see what can be done to make it more interesting.

The world is large and always growing. There are nearly 400 areas as of this posting, and for above ground areas, we use 16 x 16 maps with a seamless transition system.

I'll just jump in and list some of our module's basic features:
  • We run a customized version of HCR with 8 game hours between rest, limited-rest-healing with inns offering better rest than in the field, food/skinning/cooking (you need food to rest, but no hunger/starvation scripting), 0 to -10 bleed system, Fugue Plane death with resurrection required (NPC clerics available), Paladin detect evil and badge of courage, ranger tracking ability, etc.
  • 3E Crafting.
  • Emotes, die rolls, and a host of other features are accessed from our customized version of the crafting menu.
  • Apply additional "adventuring gear" to your PC: backpacks, quivers, belt items, etc.
  • A range of overcloaks, surcoats, and such can be worn over armor.
  • Custom spell changes are listed on our website. Some spells were added for more classes too.
  • Personal housing with persistent storage available at mid to higher levels.
  • Druids and rangers will auto-calm hostile animals on sight to make neutral to you and your party with Animal Empathy skill - higher skill affects stronger animals & druids are more effective than rangers (system created just for The Vast).
  • Additional custom wildshapes for druids (system created just for The Vast).
  • Combat XP: More rapid at levels 1-3, then slowing more propressively after level 4.
  • General role-play and DM-run quest xp awarded. A DM might also award xp if a character does something clever, unique, super interesting, etc.
  • Magic Items: Low to Medium (the best items are DM created treasure or special rewards through quests).
  • Treasure increases with the difficulty of the monsters.
  • Custom random treasure and gear system for monsters, chests, loot bags, etc. (created just for The Vast).
  • Seamless Transitions in almost all above ground areas.
  • At 4th level you can save a custom starting point, which is accessible after a server reset from the Lobby. More standard starting points open up as your level increases.
  • Some character customization is allowed from the Lobby: Hair/eye/lip/skin color, description changes, & deity setting. Head and tattoo changes are by request.
  • We have a handful of scripted quests, but the real focus is on DM and player initiated quests and story lines.

               +1 for the Vast.

My kind of play. A place for a character to carve out a career over time, not just a day. Although I'll be the first to admit that I'm mostly a lone wolf , the DM team has a way with getting you involved regardless.

A few screen shots from The Vast.

Our custom forest tileset hak - still a work in progress, but this is what's in world so far:
    'Posted
    Bandits in Mhyrrwood

    'Posted
    At The Mhyrrwood Ranger Camp

    'Posted
A shot by one of our players

We're using Zwerkules' biomines hak for our caves and mines:
    'Posted
A goblin warrior in the infamous Goblin Warrens

We also use a customized version of Toro's Rural hak:
    'Posted
A ranger just leaving the woods into a grassy, hilly area.

    'Posted

"View Image" to see them larger if you like.

  • Our goblins are quite health conscious. They like to stay in the best fighting form possible.

                   Tip for new players:

New characters can only start in one location: Dragon Dale. This is by design so you're in a region matched to your level.

Take a few minutes to talk to the guards at the south, west, and north gates. They'll tell you quite a bit about what surrounds the village, and give some idea where to find other not-too-distant places of interest.

Various other named NPCs may drop little hints about what you'll find around Dragon Dale too.

I love the looks of your forest tileset.

It would really be nice if you all would share it with the community. I'm sure others would like to use it.

    Any ways nice work.

Hmm.. interesting. Being openly advertised as HCR, does this server cater to the pg-13 crowd or is it 18 and up?

Haven't been on it for quite awhile due to my gaming rig not having internet access but I think I can safely speak for AG that all are welcome !

AG is a very accommodating DM/Admin. Loads of good times to be had here........... IMHO

Well.. I might check it out, if you can assure me that this is.. not strictly pg-13. I played there many years ago and left because the RP we were doing (non sexual or cybering) was a bit too gritty for their setting, according to one of the DMs. They told us it was a pg-13 server. I don't know why a 14 or 13 year old would play an HCR setting but, that's what happened.
