Anyone wana be the 3rd Server Hosted?
« on: June 25, 2013, 05:10:43 pm »

               Hi All,
Im currently doing proof of concept for a server hosting venture utilizing Amazon EC2 Servers for NWN.
I've got 2 separate clients being hosted so far.
One server on Linux, the other on Windows.

I was wondering if anyone else is interested in having their server hosted with us.

Basically - your getting a dedicated server, at a fraction of the cost of a real dedicated server.

Many dedicated server companies will charge around $50+ for a dedicated server.

Our Amazon dedicated virtual cloud servers will provide full administrative access or root access (for Linux).
And you are free to install any legal software as desired.

You pay for the base price of the server, Disc Drive, and any associated usage costs.
$0.10 per Million I/O Operations. (2 Clients so far, running for a week or so, have only accrued about 20 cents of usage - so its not that expensive.)

Until the end of the month - everything is 10% Discounted.
To configure your server specs - you can use the site below.
http://hosting.azmod...products_id=180

Any questions, we will need to get in contact via mail or PM to confirm some details etc before setup, but we usually have servers setup within 10-20 minutes of the order going through.

               how does the addressing work?

for example, i know of two servers which use dyndns URLs to make it easy on players finding their server. would that still work?

The servers can have static IPs that never change.
These are called elastic IPs because the external ip never changes despite the server it pointing to being able to be reassigned.

I'm able to generate an unlimited amount of these IPs.
If they want to use dyndns they can point it at the elastic ip, or just use the elastic ip outright.
Amazon does however charge for every hour the IP address is not used: as such I need to charge the max possible charge I could incur by the server being turned off.
( $4.00 per month if the server is turned off for a whole month.)

That being said - the IP is an optional extra- not required for the server if you want to use dyndns and point it at the public dns address.

               Thanks henesua
If you or any of your friends are interested in a free trial for a few days - I'd be willing to let you guys try it for free for a few days - to see if it suits your needs.
I'd say the cheapest servers I offer, are ideal for NWN1, I don't think there are many modules/servers out there that require more than 612mb of Ram for a NWN Server.
And for the ones that do require more - we can arrange to have them hosted on higher spec instances.

We can also offer IOPS Disc Drives to host the server on.
These hard drives essentially allow you to control how fast the read/write operations occur.
Allowing you to make your server read/write times even faster that a default server hdd.
Imagine a 'virtual' solid state drive.
