Does this even exist?

I kinda doubt it but... I'd really like to find an rp based world that didn't have extreme punishments for death, or uses annoying resting/eating systems... and at the same time has a nice set of haks for heads/clothing/etc. Also please don't suggest Amia.

               Hi Jenna
Yes those pesky eating and resting rules spoil many good servers.
Here's a few servers you might like to try
The Way Inn
TSM(tales of silvery moon)
Not strictly RP but its not just action just not heavy RP Legion of Darkstar (Sword Coast Adventures)
and merry Christmas

I could overlook it if everything else fit the request. I played on arelith for a while but the lack of custom content bugged me over time. I tried sinfar and styss but the roleplay wasn't exactly gratifying (outside of my usual friends coming with). Do those other servers get a decent player count these days?

World of Aenea has a food and rest system, but it is not annoying. For those who use them, there are foods to either eat or prepare for small benefits much like Skyrim. One is also not penalized for forgoing sleep; but can heal, regain spells, etc for doing so. And for those who dislike using such systems, there are items, abilities, and even an available Feat to remove the need for sustanence.

And while there are penalties for death, one does not lose a lvl. One loses the xp, has enough to pay that debt from earned xp or piety pts, and if any debt remains that PC may pay that off by continued play; not waiting in a penalty phase until xp may be earned again.

What's your criteria for "pesky" resting or eating rules?  I don't actually know a server that fills all of those criteria anyway, but I'm curious about that part.  For example, I'm not a fan of rest timers, but I'm fine with "only resting in designated areas" and possibly needed a bedroll to sleep in the wilderness (that sort of thing).

I generally label "extreme" eating as having to go out of your way to deal with food/meat/cooking to the point where it becomes something you have to plan for and do in and of itself, outside of normal supplies like heal kits, potions, etc.  For me, I play to play, not to deal with mundane aspects like food prep.  '<img'>

For rest, obv it's subjective.  I've played on a server that had a 10 min RL timer and it was ok.  Just started one that has a 1 HOUR RL timer for rest.  Kind of annoying...

Jenna,

I know of one such place. Unfortunately, I haven't seen another player on that server besides myself for a very long time. The only "hak" it uses is CEP 2.3. There are no rest restrictions at all, and no required food system exists, although there are plenty of places that sell food and drink for RP purposes. The server resets itself once every day, so it's obvious someone is still tending to it, there just doesn't seem to be any other players. If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you the direct connect info.

edit:  The death system is standard NWN.

               Hi Jenna

I am builder and dm at Legion of Darkstar: Sword Coast Adventures. We are an action and roleplay server, and we use cep 2.2c as our only hak. We have no rest restrictions or food rations. You can rest as often as you want. Although we are not pure roleplay, we do encourage it.

For role players, I have added the elven city of Evereska, which is a city in the tree tops of Cormanthor Forest. The city is well decorated, and is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. There are plenty of shops for your shopping pleasure, and yes, a few clothing shops too. If you prefer to craft your own clothing, then be sure to visit Dragonspear, and Monique's Boutique, for everything you will need in crafting fun.

On our server, we have dozens of quests for you to enjoy, and our main quest as well. Our main quest has a nice story, featuring many twists and turns. A few of our players have used the main quest to enhance the storyline of their characters. If you prefer something a little different, we have our new Underdark main quest being developed. There is a nice story to this quest as well, and it will have different endings for more replayability.

As for players, we do have a few players here. Most of them are in European time zones, so there will be some slow times. Our players are usually focusing on doing quests and fighting creatures, but most of them enjoy some roleplay as well. If your just looking for a good laugh, and a fun time, well we have a lot of that and more.

You can find our direct connect info in our server thread, or in the community server thread under PW Action.

Edit: That's too much work, lol.

Here is our direct connect Ip address: 70.104.195.212:5121

In response to the pesky resting rules.
I play the game to enjoy it not to emulate real life too much so called realism spoils that, for me at least I want escapism not drudgery. If you want enforced rest then 16 hours would be more the norm but I agree to get a good rest either an inn or campsite or bedroll would be ok.  The problem with worlds they often follow their creators idea not necessarily the players ideas of gaming. That said as a player I am gratefull to the builders and scriptors out there for their work and I know if you look around many worlds are still there some will match or come close to a players idea of what a world/game should be.

               Ah, yes. Resting restrictions.

The more the builders/scripters try to infuse realism, the farther away from reality they seem to get. Some of the best nights rest I've ever had was sleeping on the ground with no bedroll or tent, and nothing but my jacket for cover. Some of the worst nights rest I've had was trying to sleep in a noisy "inn" with neighbors on all sides partying loud and hardy til the wee hours of the morning. I've never had being hungry or thirsty keep me from getting rest, either. The notion that a person can't get "good" rest without being properly fed, hydrated, and having a bedroll and/or tent is absurd. It certainly doesn't have any basis in reality. At least not for an adventurer. Maybe for a princess.

And to address the time issue for resting, just because you're resting doesn't mean you're sleeping. When I've had an extremely difficult time over the course of several days, I can rest for a couple of days in a row without any trouble at all. In fact, when I'm IG, I often RP my rest periods as just sitting down to catch my breath. Not sleeping.

I think environments that enforce resting restrictions are likely controlled by individuals who have never had a life of adventure, and have no concept of what it's truly like. Once the adrenaline created by being in combat wears off, you can crash anywhere, anytime, hungry and thirsty or not. Trust me.

I think of any food/drinking system as pesky, tbh. The arelith system comes to mind where you'll fatigue and pass out if you don't drink or eat in the middle of conversations or dramatic rp action. It's very jarring and retarded imo.

Basically what I want is Sinfar but without the lack of setting, structure, or rules. Less half dragon half god half scorpion half chimera pcs as run rampant there. However, leveling is not hard, does not punish you, and the pc customization options are the best I've seen.

               <advances a...>

What would you think of a server with *optional* RP rules... turn on the RP elements and gain bonuses (more xp, special quests, etc). Turn off and make things simple and slick?

Edit: A case to illustrate: I enjoy Arbor Falls, a rich, beautiful world. I can jump in and play just about any character I want and don't have to worry too much about RP elements (though I usually do, for fun ;-). But sometimes, I want something richer and more RP and I want it to have more meaning in the world I'm playing on. What if I could turn on RP some days and get something worth the effort? What if on other days, I turn it off and just play?  In particular, what if how *I* played didn't force any thing on how my companions/opponents played?
I mention AF specifically, because it has a lot of the depth I crave, but is simple & slick. Unfortunately, the RP, when I want depth, is not there.

And do you rate the benefits of PC customization above or below the ease of leveling? That is, is leveling more important than the look/feel of your character?

<...petition for consideration>

Personally, I believe Skyrim got it right in the Vanilla game: all optional, and left up to the Player. Food is there and offers benefits, but can be skipped if desired. Resting is beneficial to Crafting and other skills, but may also be skipped. And Crafting itself offers great boons to the characters, but are not essential to play.

Like Gregor, I dislike most forced systems as personal experiences prove things differently. I have had several nights of rest-filled sleep on top of steel hatchways and plastic pallets. And having once napped in the back of a moving howitzer proves one may rest and sleep anywhere; not assigned bedrolls.

And while Aenea does have consumed food during rest, it does not force one to eat at other times, nor force rest for staying awake for lengthy periods. And the food requirement is also avoidable via items, abilities, and Feats. While there is a penalty for sleeping in armor, that comes from the PnP rules, and can be mitigated via healing methods of a wide range of implementations from bandages, healing kits, regeneration items, etc. Or one may simply wear the tunic or clothing they got at start before sleeping.

Easy Peasy!

               <feeling a little...>

The key: The benefit being worth the (RP) effort and the whole system being optional? That's how I see it, anyway.

(*wishing Skyrim wasn't half so well thought out and half his friends weren't off visiting*)

One server I'd played on, that used the CNR (I think that's what it was called anyways) crafting system, gave added bonuses to the characters after resting if they'd eaten better quality crafted foods beforehand.
Eating and timed rest systems can work, if they're supporting the main theme of the server by being there.  Incentives for crafting food in a crafting oriented server is one of those ways.

When they're just there as a way to impose "realism", which is nearly impossible in a situation where hours roll past so quickly you can literally talk for days in game without realizing it, it fails quite spectacularly.
