Logging problems
« on: September 15, 2012, 01:08:26 pm »

Hello. I've been having this issue with the multiplayer... I log on, everything is alright, I see the server list... but I usually don't see Arelith anymore, the server I play (or, well, played) on. Occasionally it'll appear and I'll be able to log, but more often than not it just doesn't appear, and when I direct connect, it keeps on saying the server is timed out (it's not. Definitely not. The site says it's still up and there aren't any Arelithian players in the chat, meaning there wasn't a crash).

Not only that, but after a few seconds of staying logged on to the multiplayer, the servers begin to disappear from the list, one by one, until after 30-60 seconds, only two servers are left in the list. It's not that the rest are greyed out... it's that there aren't any other servers to see. Only two.

Any ideas what this is and how I can solve it? The laptop is brand new, just two days ago, if that's important to know.

Afraid I can't help you with your first point. As for the server list in gamespy making servers disappear infront of your eyes, I think this is common. If you toggle between different lobbys (e.g. Roleplay / PW Story) when you toggle back again the servers should all be visible once more (before resuming their strange merry dance of disappearing).

It sounds like a problem with your internet connection to me.

Try testing you connection to a location close to your home.   If you dont get speeds that are at least close to what you are paying for contact your ISP for repairs.

As far as the server not showing up in the list, ask the devs to try tweaking their game spy related ini settings. This happens with my server as well, and adjusting these get's my server to show up most of the time.

And as far as servers disappearing from the list after a few seconds, this happens to me as well (and has for quite some time), and I am pretty sure it's not related to my connection. Sounds like Fergoose is familar with the phenomenon too.

That sounds like an internet speed problem.   It could be a problem with his connection or even where he is in relation to where the server is.
