This is an interesting project, but unfortunately my world is not ready to participate. We are only online for events with a focused group of players. We couldn't possibly handle a batch of new ones.

I hope you extend this idea beyond the anniversary.

               <taking his magic eraser...>

I think this is a great start of a possible something big, as the potential links between servers, a "World-walker" culture is one of the main draws that sucked me into NwN back in '99.

If I possibly can, I'll be tasting the worlds that participate in this. Certainly  Arenthyor, and a nostalgic visit to Argentum Regio (wonder if my old characters are still there...). Arbor Falls, if LoW jumps on, and this could be the final push to visit TAD in Aenea. Keep meaning to...

So who all is participating? Roll call!

               Thanks for the support, all!

Remember, NWPAD is not just about the events (though that's a big part of it), but also the "play NWN" activities we'll be executing beginning in early June to help raise awareness of NWN1 and bring players (new and lapsed) into the community.  Everybody can participate in that part, regardless if you have a world that will run events.

But is "incentivising" a word? ;-P

Of course!   It is marketing-speak (a mashup of Black Speech and Illithid psionic mind-control) that also includes such gems as "best practices", "dimensionalize", "transformational", and the most powerful word of compulsion, "paradigm shift".

Now, look into my eyes.  Good.  Repeat after me, "I, state your name, will wholeheartedly and without reservation, participate to my utmost ability in the Neverwinter Nights Player Appreciation Days."

There, that wasn't so hard, was it? ;-)

Rather doubting our server will be up in time (still got like 40 spell sound effects and a bunch of PC model parts to do, groaaaan), but I'm definitely going to check out some servers during this time. '<img'>

Thanks for the elaboration BtB, and ACD. We are considering jumping on board with this. I still don't really understand the "check-in" concept though, how this is tallied? And also I am still a lil fuzzy on the prize claim code. So this is a message displayed in the chat or combat log? Or an item? And then how is this redeamed? I assume each code would be unique, and only redeamable once?

if the PW owner chooses to use my system i posted, then there will be a chest hidden somewhere in the low level areas.  once you find it with your guy, open it up and there will be a piece of paper in there.  a random number is generated between 1 and 1,000,000 and is printed on that paper.

this is your prize code.  it is also recorded to the server's log file, so the PW owner knows who got what code.

the participating PW owners will compile all of their individual claimed prize codes and.....  do something with it - haha.  that part isn't quite decided yet, but at the least we'll print out who claimed the most from all of the worlds.

similarly, each PW owner will develop a system of rewards for players local to his PW.  whether it's XP, gold, items, etc - that's up to each individual PW owner to decide what's best for his PW.  i've not decided what i will be doing, but once i do i'll likely post the code i'm using to reward the PCs.

of course, each PW owner is welcome to develop their own system of check-ins, prize codes, or whatever, so long as it's somewhat compatible with the rest of the worlds.  there are loose guidelines that involve encouraging new players to come check out different PWs (a server-crawl, if you will).  then the player would have to come up with some sort of "proof" that he did something - either speak with a DM, complete a quest, or find a prize code.

on dalakora.com, the server restarts every 12 hours, and the chest will be re-hidden after each restart.  i will be rewarding players for 1 code from each restart.

The most important thing right now is getting as many people involved as possible. So, your task is to help solicit any and all community members to join the movement. We don't just need PW admins and DMs (though we do need them - as many as possible), but we also need the players, content creators, developers...the entire community to be involved.

Where do the content creators come in?

TY ACD, that explains alot. So how do you ensure players can't continue re-opening the chest for additional codes, and yet another player could stil claim a code once? Are you setting a variable on the toon that is cleared on subsequent re-logs after a restart or something? What about players that have multiple toons on a server? Tied to public CD keys or something?

will try to help a bit... i'm not too overly great at dming things but there's a lot of tools to make things fun on ArgentumRegio, Ehye has been busy with nwnconnections, but if anyone can come onto the server or even the forums it'd be appreciated to maybe try to plan something up.... thought would've been fun to make use of the server portals but I don't know if anyone got those to work right...

Rolo - I'm in for a server crawl, as long as we stop at all the inns along the way.  My dwarf works up a thirst in the dungeons.

Laz - Regarding the 'check-ins', I'm thinking that regardless of how many times a player check's-in to the world, for the cross-world event, they will be recognized 1 time.  So, at the end of the event, participating worlds e-mail the appropriate logfile info to whoever we designate as the tabulator.  That person will look for unique logins/CD key across worlds and tally up/rank those accounts.  Possibly the top 5 'world-walkers' (to use Rolo's term, which seems to sum it up nicely) get recognized (one grand prize, one first place, and 3 runners-up, for example).  The players are notified and can pick any one of the participating worlds to redeem.  The prize offered by that world needs to be defined by that world.  What is an appropriate prize for one world (e.g. xp, gold, approval to play a special subrace, etc...)  will be different from the next.  As a world, you may want to offer some prize to ALL logins that come.  That's fine too, as long as you recognize the winning world-walkers as well.

Zwerkules - Great question!  The thinking right now is that NWPAD will include an opportunity to showcase your work.  We still need to refine this part (such as how to best do this - would love to hear your thoughts on the boards) or identify other ways to include creators, which to my mind includes not just modelers, but also SP module developers, script system developers, community 'activists', and all the other ways that people have contributed to the game.  I'd love to see the Vault help out here.

Lastly, if you are interested in your world participating, add your world to the growing list on the NWPAD project board here:  Participating Worlds.  We've started this list to keep the 'official' tally of worlds.  All PR outreach will use this list as the most current.

If you want to get involved in the planning, check out the project boards below.  Admittedly, we're just getting started on some of what this looks like, so it's a great time to jump in.

i'm not verifying that a player can't open the chest more than once.  i started out setting a local variable on the character, which would be cleared after the restart.  but then the player could just make another guy and claim another code.  so then i'd have to set a server variable for the account name.  another problem is that each server has their own restart schedule.  mine restarts every 12 hours, but some restart once a day, or even once a week i imagine.  i really have no idea.

so i wound up just letting the players open the chest until they got bored.  all of the codes are stored in the log file, and i'm only going to "accept" the first one for the account and ignore the others.  other PW owners are welcome to reward each toon that opens it if they so choose.

that's the beauty of not restricting anything.

I wonder if another solution might be to have the chest spawn to waypoints. Once a chest is opened once (or closed rather) it destroys itself, and respawns randomly at waypoints the builder could place all over the mod? This would also prevent a player finding the chest, and telling others where it is.

I have too much on my plate already. Doing this, you could still only accept one code per restart, or even 24hr time period (to equalize it for all servers regardles of restart intervals). All it would do is prevent people from being able to tell others where the chest is.
