Announcing: Shadows of Tilverton
« on: November 25, 2011, 04:20:29 am »

Shadows of Tilverton is a relatively new Neverwinter Nights roleplaying world set in the Forgotten Realms, currently focused on the region of Cormyr and its immediate environs.

The tone of our world is defined by a sensible adherence to canon lore for the purposes of providing a rich, well-grounded basis for the creation of characters and the development of stories. However, Shadows of Tilverton is not merely a persistent world - it is a dynamic world which has been and will be influenced by character actions and roleplay.

Our extensive staff of dungeon masters is friendly and keen on facilitating player-lead initiatives in the game world, and ensuring that characters are able to affect their surrounds and carve out their own spheres of influence. Many of our dungeon masters have years of experience in the Neverwinter Nights medium, hailing from servers such as Myth Drannor, Gatecrashers, Cormyr and the Dalelands, and Cormanthor.

We employ a wide variety of custom content from the community, a script base which has been written exclusively for the Shadows of Tilverton module, and make extensive use of NWNX technologies to provide the best technical platform to support the roleplay occurring in-character. The module is under continuous development, with new features being added on a regular basis. Our two administrators are professional programmers, ensuring a focus on both quality and innovation.

Mechanically, Shadows of Tilverton has deviated in many ways from the roleplay server norm, as we believe that mechanics should account for the differences between the NWN and PnP media to provide the most enjoyable gaming experience possible.

The place has grown a lot since I joined, and there's constantly new content. Fun place to play and laid back enough to accomodate many playstyles, within the bounds of immersion. Wew!

Yes! You can find the server under the roleplay tab in gamespy (Cormyr - Shadows of Tilverton), or direct connect to shadowsoftilverton.dyndns.org:5121.

The server requires custom hak downloads, which can be obtained from the website,

I've played here for some time and occasionally help with development. A lot of the newer content is nice and it's generally got a solid base. Plus stuff is still getting added and will be for a long time, I imagine.

-And numerous other improvements

This is in addition to our prior custom content, and we have a dedicated development team that will keep content coming at a swift pace. We've recently done a reboot of this server with a fresh take on the setting and some great new features. This is one of the most advanced servers you can find, with features such as allowing players to instantly upload areas they design into the toolset and have them ingame without the need for any staff intervention, and Ave's NWN boating system, which you can see a demo of at:

So check out our forums at

Thanks! There's a lot of new stuff on the module changelog that I've been busy with over the last couple weeks.

I've also fixed almost everything on the bug reports forums, so there's very few known bugs left.

Evidently the thread in which we announced the release of our source code and module has been removed for erroneous reasons. While that's being cleared up, I've decided to just append a post to this old thread.

Here's the link to the repository.

I'll be checking this thread occasionally to answer any questions.

Is there any chance of some documentation on the tweaks to combat?

Would be nice to know what's been changed to merge it back into the nwnx mainstream.

The most useful section of the combat code modifies the number of offhand attacks, based on feats the character possesses (eg featid 1301, 1132, 20) - it's hardcoded to those featID's. Check lines 49-55 of h_CalculateOffHandAttacks.c. Also check out the hook at line 48 of nwnx_combat.cpp.

Yeah, it's a very small plugin I wrote to support the Tempest class.

Originally the intent was to modify more of the combat round, but that sort of fell by the wayside. So "combat" is a bit of a misnomer.

If it's going to be merged back into mainline the hardcoding of feats should likely be dropped in favor of something more configurable.

The server itself is for all practical purposes defunct at this point, and likely to stay that way, especially now that the forums that contained links to the haks have been taken down. Nevertheless, I'm still hosting SoT, and if anyone cares to poke around long enough to experiment with any of the features in action on SoT build 143d (the live module), they can feel free to contact me for haks and connection information. Avesenchai on Skype is the fastest way to contact me.
