Nice vid Skipp. Endgame is a bit misleading though since, not only is that not even one of the top half dozen highest areas currently, but also because the mod can go up to lvl 2000. It's just a matter of adding more high level content as the player base needs it.

I am happy to announce the dreaded lag monster that has been haunting our realm the last few months has finally been slayed.

Aventia 3 Merged- Unlimited levels summary.

So I have been trying to figure out how to best exemplify what makes Av3 unique. The fact is there are so many things, it’s hard to sum up. So I thought a systematic approach might be best. Off the top of my head this is what I can reveal:

Our post 40 system:

Aventia was the first mod in NWN 1 to implement a post 40 system. 10 years later, and 10 years worth of development later it still stands alone as an unlimited mod, despite the others out there with 60, or 80, or even 250 lvl caps. We actually do have a level limit, but it is around lvl 2000. And since the highest lvl ever achieved in over 10 years (granted the last year or so the rate at which you can get xp is much increased compared to Av1 or Av2) is lv 630ish, yeah… I pretty much consider a PC lvl cap of 2000 unlimited. I my self have played here for over 9 years and my highest currently is lvl 530ish (although in the last year I have gone from my highest being 150ish to my current 530ish, and many others have also achieved 400+ toons in the last year.)

A lot of people see this and say wow, what? You can get unlimited feat, ability stats, skill points, CL, ect…? Actually no, part of our balance depends on players making difficult choices pre-40 which influence their build post-40.

Post 40, the system is completely automated (except for ability stats, which you have to manually pick), and quite complex.

The general aspects of it are as follows:

All players get additional HP (based off their con modifier, toughness feats, and MF), ab, and damage based off your MF.

What is MF?

MF is your melee factor. It determines much about your post 40 Melee benefit progression. Fighters for example are MF 1. Wizards are for example MF .25. If you are 20 FTR, and 20 Wiz, you are MF 0.625. Which influences your post 40 HP, and melee dmg amongst other things.

Ok you mentioned post 40 hp… what do you mean post 40 melee dmg?

Well… Based off your MF, you also get bonuses to your dmg and ab, in addition to your HP. Your ab increases post 40 based off you MF. And yes this is uncapped. Your post 40 dmg, is a temp dmg boost to your weapon you have equipped. It only applies if your dmg for that dmg type exceeds what you already have on your weapon. The post 40 melee dmg maxes out at 40d20 to all elemental and energy dmg types. So no, much like the lvl cap, it is not truly unlimited, but considering the to get 40d20 to all dmg types takes about a lvl 2000 MF 1 toon (less with an epic rune, but that’s another story) yes… it is essentially unlimited.

Ok… what about casters? Melee gets all these bonuses, what about casters?

Well… Casters, in addition to the same HP boost (which is dependant on MF, Con, and toughness feats) basically get 1% dmg bonus from their base (lvl 40) dmg and duration per post 40 lvl (aka at lvl 240 you get 200% dmg increase from your base [e.g. lvl 40 sorc gets 40d12 base on lvl 9 spells, but a lvl 30 sorc lvl 10 PM gets 30d12 base on lvl 9 spells, but both get 1% dmg increase from their base, per post 40 level] on spells), in addition to your post 40 HP which all builds get based off your MF.

Ok…  but what about everybody else. There are quite a few other builds that don’t fall under the pure melee or pure caster category, don’t you know?

True that, which is why Av3’s post 40 is quite build specific.

For example….

Turn undead increases post 40. You base HD for determining your TU lvl increases post 40

Bard song… The base you achieve at lvl 40 increases post 40 dependant on that base. So for example if you curse song lowers enemies ac by 5 at lvl 40, this increased with post 40 up to the max of -20. Ect…

Dev crit…. Is based off of weapon size, crit threat multiplier, and str mod. If you choose to add str, post 40 for your post epic level (PEL) ability stats, both the dmg, and DC on this will increase.

Defensive stance…. No this is not your vanilla defensive stance. A DD can get an item which allows them to use an alternate form of the ability to give them % immune to all dmg types, and an HP boost.

Smite Evil, yep this increases post 40 as well.

Quivering palm…. Likewise…. Same with stunning fist.

Smite evil??? Don’t you need cha for that to hit?

Well… yes you do. And you can take a feat (improved innovative) to use your cha for your AB (much like weapon finesse for dexers), so that you can boost a melee stat which influences your smite. *yeah divine shield is also based off cha, so yes with our mods you can also get +20 shield bonus from DS in addition to a dmg shield effect.*

Quivering Palm? Isn’t that wisdom based???

Yes it is, and not only can monks get post 40 on it’s HD affected, but monks can also take Zen Archry, to not only use their wisdom for AB on bows, but also for all other weapons (and yeah… kurki, katana, and quarterstaff, all receive the same monk BAB as kama and gloves)

Anything else???

Umm… yep, just a few…

How bout barb rage adding to your ab, dmg, and hp instead of your str, and con since you can easily max +12 out on both from item. Or greater and mighty rage adding to your MF. Or thundering giving you a weapon dmg boost of up to 15d12 electricity dmg.

Or how bout other weapon buffs… most add XdY dmg. X is based off of CL, and Y is based off of post 40 lvl. E.g flame weapon reaches 15d10 fire dmg for pure casters, or holy sword reaching 40d20 divine dmg for pure pally.

Shifters and druid polymorphers have alternate appearances, and many custom abilities. (e.g. earth elemental with earth quake, dragon shapes with winged buffet, ect…)

The majority of spells have been altered, for both balance and functionality. Negative energy protection no longer give 100% neg dmg immune, but rather 10% base +2% per CL. Death armor gives 10% magic immune + 1% per CL. With sequencers melee can take advantage of a lot of these, and yet for true casters they are even better (yes casters are squishy and need it.) Or if your looking for offense, most of these spells have been changed as well both in base dmg, duration, and radius.

Epics?

Yeah they are epic… and all worthwhile.

Custom classes?

PDK is a prime example… this was completely reworked and their abilities like Oath of Wrath being a mass rez 1x per day, or final stand giving % immune to all dmg types which increases post 40 to a cap of 40% immune to all dmg types and a HP boost too boot…

Black guards have custom summon, and abilities (major dmg buff akin to holy sword, but negative dmg), and unholy aura.

Sneak attackers?

Yep, gave you some love too. You get post 40 on your sneak attacks. Evasion got altered a bit for balance (you take 25% dmg instead of none) but dishing out post 40 sneaks on every attack (not just AOO) more than makes up for it.

AA?

Can’t forget the ranged fighters… Well with changes to bow’s crit threat multiplier, and customizations to aa abilities, they are quite nice too. (e.g. hail and seeker getting post 40 dmg, and death arrow as well. Imbue basically converted into a weapon buff akin to dark fire ect… except it is applied to your arrows which can be in stacks of 1000.)

Weapon masters get any love?

Yep… ki damage has an alternate version which is an automatic hit, and does dmg based off your str or dex mod, weapon size, and crit multiplier (similar to dev crit.)

Ok… that is decent… what else you got?

Lot’s of stuff. Many feats have been altered too. For example the type of DR you can wear is based off of you classes. E.g. fighters can wear 50/, and wizards can wear 20/. If you are 20 ftr, and 20 wiz you can wear 35/ But if you have autostill spell 3, this adds an additional 10/ to the dr you can wear. So that build could wear 45/.

Or our custom WW mod, which serves as a melee based AOE, you do automatic dmg on every WW, in addition to it’s regular function (dmg based off your attack roll.) and the radius increases post 40.

There have been so many changes throught the years, it’s hard to state them all off the top of my head. However they are all documented in the book of Aventia which all players get, in addition to on our boards.

Anything else?

Well yes… quite a bit more, and I am sure I am forgetting some things, but from what I remember at the moment:

How bout:

Custom Hak free subraces. An xp and gp bank. A persistent storage item vault. A releveler which can also alter your alignment and delete unwanted toons. A tailor which can customize you physical appearances (you can even get full on appearance changes, e.g. you want to be a wil o whisp, if you are of the appropriate size, you can do this. Or you want a different tail, or wings. You can do that too.) or customize your equipment’s appearance (via the tailor.) There is also a low lvl and medium level forge you can use for in game custom gear.

And one of the major features is our Quest Point (QP) feature. Basically all bosses have a chance of dropping Quest point shards. Once you collect all 7 types, you can forge them into a QP with some GP. You can then use QP for a number of things, but most notable buying custom gear, which is even better than the gear you get from drops (or can forge.) You can purchase one of the existing gear (which other players have already requested to be added to the mod [there are a couple hundred already]) or you can request a new custom one be made following the guidelines posted on the board.

Anything else you can get with QP?

Yes as I mentioned you can also get appearance changes. Relevels for your lvl 1 (which the NPC releveler won’t do), and melee or caster runes. The melee runes boost your MF (which influences your ab, hp, and dmg), and the caster runes boost your post 40 caster dmg and duration.

The mod is so complex, even I as the host don’t know all the ins and outs. I am sure I am leaving quite a few things out. As a parting word I would just like to say, we currently have areas for lvls 5-700. And we have room for expansion. It’s massive with over 1,250 maps, but we can add quite a few more if we ever have players requiring it. One of the biggest facets of Av to me has always been it’s welcoming of community contributed content. I as the host will continue to add more content. But I also maintain that openness to community contributions. Literally 100’s of people have contributed to Av3ntia over the years. And I hope that can continue. Not to mention the 1000’s of players who I also consider contributors by being players alone.

Lazarus Magni

P.S. Please forgive the typos.... On looking this over I saw many your or you which should have been you're, and such. I never claimed to be the worlds greatest speller, but I do claim to have one of the worlds best NWN 1 mods.

I checked this place out for a while today. I was having a blast with my asabi barbarian, tearing thru goblins when suddenly the server crashed. I took a while but I was able to log back in. Everyone seemed pretty nice. I was surprised by the donation chest- I accidentally put my weapon in and was not able to take it back after getting an armour and a gem that did flame weapon. The newbie store was extremely over priced. Otherwise fun place. Subraces seemed well thought out.

Sorry to hear about the crash, that is very rare. I can't even remember the last time that happened.

The donation chest has a lvl cap on it above which you can not take items out of it any more. You can also only take out 3 items at a time if IRC.

Gold is pretty easy to come by once you have a few levels under your belt (which you can easily get in the training dungeon with what you are given to start out with.) Magpie, for example you can farm about 1 mil gp in not much time at all. You can spend gold fast, but you can get it fast too..

It's funny that you say money is easy to come by. I've been adventuring for almost 2 hours now and have found zero drops and zero gold. I spent the rest of my beginner gold on over priced potions just to stay alive. The beginner dungeon is fine should you just want to wander around killing stuff. I believe I'm up to level 14 and still getting 100-250 xp per kill. It feels boring but it's the only place I can go alone. I even tried the sewer which said 'under level 10'. If I went in there with anything under my level I would have been torn to pieces. I tried the graveyard and Sun as well - ouch is all I have to say. This place could be really fun playing with other people, but everyone else seems to be off doing their own thing because they're already so high levels. So it's basically wander around killing goblins for about 200 a hit. The novelty of that quickly wears off :/

Reading the book of Aventia would help. There are quite a few clues and tips in there. For example areas marked with the $ sign are generally good for farming gold. And you may want to bring the low lvl henchman Maag along if you are having trouble solo. He is listed in the book too, if you look carefully.

I did check the book for leveling areas but didn't notice the part about the $ at all. Will check it out again.

Well so... given your concerns Icy, I made a thread with additional tips to new players (additional as in suplemental to the advice offered by NPCs and on log in messages):

Particularially the post from 10/20/12 details a sure fire way for new players to get on their feet in Av3. You dont need to be a member of our group to view this topic, but you do need to be loged in to the social site to do so.

Laz

P.S. We have moved from action to PW action as that seemed more fitting.

I was surprised to see that Aventia has survived after all these years. It's a testiment to the hard work & time devoted into creating/managing it's content. Ah those lost rainy days, taking an entire afternoon to run through the massive gauntlet of Mythica, fighting the DMs on Mount Olympus or the numerous other places I've long forgotten.

Alas, that was a long time ago & things have changed. The NwN engine is too old now to start playing again. Why not start new with NwN 2?

A little history from a vet: Aventia died off due to mis-management. All of the core players left after Oclair kept screwing around with the core gameplay mechanics, especially character design. Most of us put countless hours grinding levels on our characters, then suddenly overnight certain class combinations were outright banned. Many including DMs had enough & left for other games (we mostly went to lineage 2).

Aside from all that, I am curious, as an old player is my account still around? There could be the following characters on the vault

Deathcoil
Pestilence
Doctor Death

               Hi Deathcoil,
The nwn 1 engine is old, but the CC from the community keeps it fresh, and the unique aspect of the game that allows this maintains it's relevance.

There were a lot of reasons why the Av1 player population died off, but owners attempting to balance their mod, and subsequently alienating their player base is an age old one for many worlds.

I have both Av1's (Oclair's), and Av2's (Ralt's) server vualt. All old accounts that have not logged in yet to register their CD keys with Funkyswerve's account security system that was put in place due to the master server going down, have been disabled due to account jackers. I can however restore accounts on an indivdual basis.

Aventia is turning 10 years old on December 25th 2012. In celebration I will run a week long event from December 26 2012 to January 1st 2013. It will be similar to the NWPAD event we participated in for NWN 1's 10 year anniversary.

I will place chests in various locations and move them around within those locations periodically (perhaps daily.) I may also change these locations throughout the course of the event. When a player finds one they will receive a prize code (which you can trash) and a log entry (which I will tally.) Only one prize code (log entry) per day per chest location will count towards the player's tally. At the end of the event I will check all the logs, tally up the counts, and award the winners. Whoever gets the most unique per day per location prize codes will win, and so on (1st, second, third places... ect...) I will most likely have a sign in the loading area telling players the general areas these chests are located for any particular day.

To keep it fair for new and old players alike, all chests will be placed in under level 40 zones, to give equal opportunity to all to be able to compete in this competition/celebration.

The event will start at 12:00 am December 26 CST. Every new day (e.g. 12:00 a.m. Dec 27 CST) players will be eligible to claim a new code from the chests. Just to clarify, if you get 2 codes (or even 100) from the same chest in the same day, it will only be counted as 1 towards your tally.

The awards will be:

1st: 24 QP
2nd: 22 QP
3rd: 20 QP
4th: 18 QP
5th: 16 QP
6th: 14 QP
7th: 12 QP
8th: 10 QP
9th: 8 QP
10th: 6 QP

Happy Holidays everyone.

I have sweetened the pot to 10 mil XP for 1st place (which is equalivent to about a free lvl 150), down to 1 mil xp for 10th place. There has never been a better time for new players to get involoved, nor casual players to get a leg up.

Also to make this a bit easier, whenever I change the locations of the chests, I will update the module version. Additionally I will only place the chests at points with mini-bosses, or bosses (I will not put them randomly anywhere on the maps.)

               Thanks BTB,
But I certainly can't take the credit. I am of the third generation of host's of Aventia, and hundreds of people have contributed to the development of the mod over the years, and thousands of players have contributed their time. It is a milestone indeed though, and cheers to all who have been involved.
