Servers you would love too see
« on: August 14, 2011, 11:13:37 pm »

Being witless with the toolset or in fact anything thats not a book,I have been reflecting lately on the servers I would have love too have  made,or at least helped on.and would play on like a shot!

First,Steven Eriksons Malazan series...i mean seriously someone please make this!  it screams out for a gameworld!
Gritty combat, hedge too high magic,a whole new world of gods and acendants and the chance of becoming one yourself!..brilliantly varied races with rich back histories and old terrible foes.

Second: Mary Gentles Ash,was called something else in usa I belive, but semi-mythical late reinessance, with steampunk golems and such..seriously read it!  ok a little warhammer-ey with cannon and arquebus but still beautifully rich in enviroment and alt history.

Third: an ARS MAGICA server, this would be fantastic! late medieval with magic and loads of political intriuge...what a low magic server this would be!

OK,thats me for tonight, but ,please ,add your own wish here...who knows maybe its the inspiration someone needs!

[fingers crossed] '<img'>

ARS MAGICA was an awesome game, but IDK if the magic system could be rendered inside NWN, and the magic in that game was, pure magic. '<img'> I played the original with many of the writers and playtesters, was a great time, excellent company and amazing product.

Be well. Game on.

I like the Gothic series.  In fact I have tried to emulate the feel of Gothic in my pw.  The first time I saw a skeleton in Gothic it was truely frightening. Later watching a group of them swim to the rocks in the moonlight in a cool, methodical, pursuit of my character was surreal and horrific at the same time.

I'd like to see one based off of the Wheel of Time series.

Would definitly have to revamp the magic system, and item system but it could be very cool.

IIRC, you are referring to Mark Rein-Haggen (sp? - man it has been years) - and again iirc, yes. There were some very very brainy sorts and very heavy history-major types involved. I was involved in what I think was the first Gen Con LARP with them -  great fun indeed.

Silly me, I only just realized my old friend Shane Hensley is in charge of the new Neverwinter project. I'm soooo out of the loop at times. lol.

Be well. Game on.

Personally I would love to see a Warhammer Fantasy Role Play-based server. While a lot of the tropes are older than Tolkien, WH just happens to come together in a way that suits my taste.

I would also love to see a PW RP server that takes place in our world during the Rennaisance Period. It would be fantastic if the primary countries involved would be Europe, the so-called Middle East, Asia, and Africa, but being logistically improbable it's far more likely it would  confined to Europe, likely even just a few key places like Spain, France, England, and the Papal States for instance.
It would be historical roleplay with one big difference...magic would exist. 'Artes Magicae' would be prohibited by The Church (as it was in real life) but it would be a very real thing. A lot of political rp with heavily ambiguous morals but accommodating enough that the playerbase would not need a degree in history to play and appreciate it.

Castle Amber and Averoigne based on the old school pen and paper X2 Chateau d' Amberville but heavily modified so that no one would know how to solve the thing by looking in an old module. Basically the silver keys would move around in the house, and be difficult to hold on to. That way passage to Averoigne would be available to everyone. And you'd have a system for getting back to the house as well.

It would have a limited run, as eventually some players would solve the curse, but it would be a blast while it lasts.

I like Zelazny's Amber too, but don't know how you'd do it in NWN as everything between the courts of chaos and amber would be procedurally generated, and then once generated - permanent. Perhaps you save the data for a shadow in the database? Very tricky to do this in my view.

Nine Princes in Amber would be intense. You could have the setting and just have to write the world/story.

Bansidhe: Currently I have been working on Orilion Nights for about 3 years and it is coming around very nicely. Not much of a player base since I only put it up on the weekends when a few friends show up. It's prettty harsh and really an expert server. I could send you a copy if you want just pm me your e-mail and I will float you a copy of it. The one you looked at, thanks btw, was Second God War.  My first attempt at an epic setting.  I have suspended work on that world, though you can probably play it up to around 25th level, so there is something to do there, around 300 areas.  My current project Orilion Nights is more concise, and less epic. Some of it's features are:
Fatigue System
Notoriety System
Improved Combat AI
Random Spawns with spot/listen stealth/detect determinants
Ambushes
Bounties (after 12th level)
Persistent Faction Relationships
Treasure Maps
To name some of the main features.

You could also try my contest entry 'Mission to Askalon' which is pretty short, and will give you a glimpse into my approach:

I'd like to see a server where DMs run events/quests in European evenings. I have been to many great servers but they all make me frustrated as all the good roleplay and server events happends in the middle of my nighttime (which is evening time for americans). Sure there are some players on my evening time, but it seems they use this time to just farm xp or sit around afk. I really want a place to play where I can feel Im part of something and not just running around killing monsters on my own. if  wanted to do that, I'd just play the single player game.
