Coming back after a long break
« on: March 30, 2011, 05:18:05 pm »

               Hi everyone '<img'>

I'm thinking about playing NWN online again. Can you maybe give me some advice about the servers nowadays?
I've read some of the threads in this forum , but i can't really imagine what will expect me on the servers which are introduced here, because the threads don't really show me what kind of players are playing on these servers.

I'm searching for an action server. Just playing, killing some monsters, doing some quests, (raiding some bosses????) together with others without the need of writing a 12 page biography for my char.

Is there still a populated server (with more than 20 players or so) of this kind?
With players helping people who are new to the server?
I don't want to play alone all the time because all players are max level.
I'm hoping for a server without players who are answering questions with : OMG NOOB L2P HAHAHAHA
A server in europe would be great , because i'm from germany, and a US server would probably cause very high pings. Since i only speak german (and a little bit of english '<img'>  ) i'm only able to play on a server with one of those languages being spoken.

Is there a server fitting my imagination?
Thank you for your answers '<img'>

I play about the same way. Even though I like some roleplay along the way also.

Currently I am playing at Evernight. It pretty much matches your criterias...except the min 20 players on. I think it has a maximum of 10 at times...still...you only need one or two others to play with...and with some luck you'll find some. People are nice there....

If you get Xfire and actively talk to other players you might hieghten your chances even more.

Check out my signature for links about Xfire.

At the moment I am playing too much Minecraft lol...but I'll be sure to check back on Evernight sometimes....

Don't worry about where the server is. NWN almost never has lag....

World of Aena by Amethyst or Higher Ground is your best bet over all.

Agree with Higher Grounds, its very close to "raids" and its really epic. Don't know Aenea but can recommend also: The Three Towns (quest/exping style) or Diablo: The Dark Wanderer (boss running loot style, tough really)

I'm not that familiar with action servers, but if you login to GameSpy (through NWN) and check the Action list, I'm sure you'll find a server you like. Good luck and have fun. '<img'>

doesn't every server has its own hakpack which i need to download to play?
thats the reason i asked here, i didnt want to download all the hakpacks just to realize the server sucks.
or aren't the servers using custom hakpacks anymore?

There are a few servers that don't require hak paks; but the majority require them.  There's no real way to determine the quality of a server without spending some time on it to determine if it fits your expectations.  I could say "Server X" is AWESOME, but you could disagree completely based on your initial experiences; unfortunately the only way to test the waters is to server hop until you find what you like.

Now that is an understatement. '<img'>

As far as being a casual "drop in" world with helpful players and non-enforced (but player-initiated) RP, Aenea does seem to fit the request.  We don't have the higher numbers of players online that you are looking for, usually ranging between 2 and 8 people online at any one time.

ArgentumRegio offers plenty of action, in a RP-enhanced game world. PCs are much more like pnp versions than the stock NWN class/race - every thing from wilderness lore to stonecunning, the addition of over 70 spells (most from classic DND) along with custom crafting, swimming, flying, climbing, jumping and much much more.
No crash, no lag, no reset - this server is scripted VERY well and worth a look. Please visit the tutorial area to get a 'leg up' on the systems here.

Be well. Game on.
GM_ODA

P.S. I or any of our DMs or Players would be glad to guide you through the tutorial area.

Not every server, but a good majority do have haks now. If you go to Gamespy and highlight a sever, there's a button on the bottom that says 'Server Details' and many will tell you where to download haks on that space.

Regarding Higher Ground, the only required hak is CEP v2.3; if you end up not enjoying Higher Ground, you will at least be able to play on many other worlds that require CEP. If you do decide to stick around however, you can grab the optional Higher Ground Enhanced hak that adds a number of visual effects, enhanced descriptions, and new functionalities.

Most of the action on Higher Ground is focused on higher level areas, but there are usually lower level and new players to play with (3 online within the starting level range, as of this post). English is predominantly spoken, but it would not surprise me for you to find players to speak German with; either way the community is welcoming to new players and will readily answer any questions you may have, either on the forums or ingame.

You can read more about connecting to Higher Ground on the Getting Started page, along with specific instructions for getting the files you need on the Installation Guide.

Everyone has their favorites, but even if you're taking suggestions, the only way to truly know for yourself is to spend some decent amount of time on each one.
