Recommended NWN persistent world servers

For RP, I can recommend The Island of Thain. A great place to learn the RP basics, and a dedicated staff was in place when I was there. However, do not bet on playing past 20th lvl. Good news: no Haks required.

For Action and a ton of new stuff, I recommend Aenea. You can solo, or play in small parties. One can go to 40th lvl, then Reincarnate and replay again for some perm bonuses, and then Ascend to replay a third time for even more inate power. Mostly I stay at 40th, and there is at least a couple of places where you may need to gear up with improved items and/or friends before tackling.

I quite liked Thain myself, but the module seems lacking in detail. The RP seemed decent, nothing above the norm, but I guess it's worth personally trying every server. Different things appeal to different people.

I was pleasingly engrossed in the way the staff would place gradual changes in the mod to sim the rebuilding needed after some major catastrophe. From the expansions seen in the main cities, or environmental alterations experienced when viewing divine retribution, it was fantasical.

As for RP, this is where I was able to evolve from playing PnP style with lots of OOC convo, to a RP setting where such lighthearted talk was kept to Tells. And there were several talented RP indv seen there at the time. But as I prefer Epic play, I moved on to try other servers.

It's really what you are after. Personally I prefer a smaller, more intimate rp server like the World Serpent Inn than maxed out server numbers all day long (I also had a somewhat similar experience while I had tried TSM). It allows you to get to know everyone and likewise, everyone (including DMs) to get to know you. Which is not to say we have enough players right now, but if we were steadily around 15 to 20 all the time I would be very happy with that.

On that note, it's allowed the DMs of our server to provide more personalized events once that occurs. Currently I'm running a campaign centered around 2 PCs and their backgrounds which has been a lot of fun. Once it's finished, I'll be starting up another for other PCs and so on. I find it has the most meaning for the player and brings a lot of development for the character and fun for everyone involved.

Just my thoughts though, everyone will have different. If you let us know what you are after, as mentioned, we can help point you more toward a server that fits your ideal. '<img'> Good luck with your search.

I'll go ahead and recommend Cormanthor. Lots of custom content, attractive areas, immersive RP environment.

I'm on City of Arabel right now. Not sure if I'll stay there for the long haul, but I would recommend trying it out. Plenty of Adventure & Intrigue.

Whenever I go to Arabel, I hear that term bandied about.. 'Adventure & Intrigue'. What exactly do you mean by it? What does Arabel offer that other servers do not, in this regard?

How come in a thread titled "Recommended" someone has to constantly bash others suggestions? Why not just make your own thread for PWs you dislike and why instead? Honestly. We're all going to have differing views here. Suggest what you will, but leave out the constant belittling of others suggestions please.

Complete agreement with Kalbaern. Well said and thank you.

With all due respect, the question wasn't asked to you. It was asked to me, and I didn't consider it bashing at all. It's a legitamite question which a lot of people ask. We do use the term A&I on CoA a lot. What we basically mean by it is this:

* A very extensive guild system
* A huge number of scripted quests, so that you don't have to always hunt monsters to gain xp.
* Generally lots of RP by players orientated to Adventure & Intrigue within the city of Arabel.

Sometimes the term is overused, but it sums up pretty well what we are, and how we differ from other servers.

I wouldn't go by kalbaern's list, personally. FRC gets a fairly good player count, but it's very cliquey and the module itself is ugly and plain. I struggle to see anything appealing or unique about FRC. TSM seems quite nice, but it gets hardly any players, for whatever reason, and that doesn't seem likely to change any time soon. WSI and The North would be strange choices too, as they're both quite small-time.

Comments like this might be hurting those smaller servers, and keeping them small  '<img'>

That said, WSI will never be one of the super-large servers. I've been on the staff for such places, and it's not my thing. Quality over quantity.  I doubt we'd ever go above 35 for our cap. We go through high and low points on player attendance. School or other issues keep people busy during certain times of year... then free to play at other seasons. So it really depends.

I'm looking for a new place myself, since FRC closed down indefinitely. There are actually more to choose from than I realized. Some that haven't even been mentioned in here, like The Way Inn (which is where I'm playing now).
