« on: February 25, 2011, 03:23:25 pm »

I am looking for NWN server which have

  • highly RP oriented players
  • little OOCers
Oh well. I was about to do a huge list of requirements but was actually quite unable to write more.

I know Amia and Arelith, but is there anything else?

Well, I'd suggest my own. A link to the forums can be found in my signature. (The Savage Frontiers and Surrounds)

Arbor Falls by "LoW" is a good one.

"TSM" otherwise known as Tales of the Silver Marches is another.

"FRC" or Forgotten Realms Cormyr.

"WSI" or the World Serpent Inn.

The North.

Most of these and many others can be found in Game Spy under Role Play.

66.232.100.90 cep2.1 or better, ArgentumRegio - an RP-enhanced server. You earn XP for RP (scripted reward system for emotes and IC texts), exploring and more. Featuring the unique Immersion Tools (IT) - which allows your backstory to impact game play among other things. Come visit and see if this server has the tools to make the RP even better (I think so - and I would love to have your feedback too, since some of our best refinements come from PLAYER feedback).

Hope to see you online (I'll spot you the current version of the IT).

Try Avlis - it meets your requirements, and is the largest world in the community: 3000+ areas, 20 DMs, 200-odd regular players...
Links in my sig, and please drop by our IRC if you like as well. Avlis is just beginning Chapter 3 of a major worldwide campaign, and it's an excellent time for a new PC to come in and make a difference in the world. Avlis is known for closing the DM-player-plot-world loop; PC actions drive our campaigns, and if you want to get involved, the decisions you make WILL affect the world, in terms of the RP, the lore, and the server modules themselves.
If you don't want to get involved, there are over a hundred dungeons to stomp through across 9 interlinked servers, and plenty of other players to hook up with for RP and adventure.
If you wanna chat more, drop by our IRC channel at stratics.frws.com, #avlis. If you don't have IRC, check out Mibbit for a nice, free web client.

Hope to see you there!

I'll second the ones kalbaern mentioned. All pretty decent, comes down to personal preference after that.

Personally I'm with the World Serpent Inn which is going through a bit of a transition as we add our own haks and are currently working at implementing parts of the PRC (new spells, feats, classes, etc) to enhance the module and options for players. We're always happy to have another rp minded player about.'Posted We also have weekly campaigns set up (outside the regular spur of the moment events) that players can get involved in.

Our forums islocated at www.worldserpentinn.com if you want to take a look. We currently are using CEP 2.3 and a single custom hak (head options...lots of nice head options) with more to come. Jen is currently working on a new clothing hak which will add immense customizability. Considering that in addition to the free item/character crafting and many races make it very customizable to make the exact character you want.

In addition to those mentioned above, all good ones IMHO, Realms of Annakolia is one I've enjoyed playing on from time to time in the past. Several of the CEP Team are involved there, including the team leader, so you can see some really nice use of CEP stuff there.  They have some regular open events running, as well as a number of campaigns. It's fairly easy to solo there, if you just want to explore and hunt alone, but there are often other folks around who're often happy to party up and RP, if that's what you're into.

Giving us more info on what you want is a good idea. There's a broad span of server types amongst the RP based crowd. High magic, low magic, enforced play or relaxed management, level caps, death penalties... it all makes for very different types of play. Agreed! Some servers seem to try and portray themselves as all things to all people, and that's just not the case. Avlis, for example, is not high-magic, not permadeath, we're capped at 40th lvl (not 60th), not super-geared to regular soloing, and is not action PvP style. If you're looking for +12 items and arena PvP, or the ability to tackle the top dungeons solo, we're not for you.

So what are you looking for?

Hello, friend! If you haven't found a server to your liking yet, you are very welcome to try Mistledale.
We do not have a lot of fancy systems implemented. We only use CEP 2.3.
You won't find +6 items. We are low magic.
You won't rush to level 30, which is cap. We have fairly slow level advancement.
You won't find powergamers. We have a token system to assure quality role play.
You won't be over-geared. You can buy up to +2 items, +5 items are very rare, and can only be looted at the most dangerous places.
You will find it hard to solo, although not impossible. We highly encourage party role play adventuring.
You won't perma-die. We have a small xp and gold penalty when your PC dies.

You will find that loot is very varied. We have the DMG loot table, plus thousands of custom loot.
You will find that your spellcaster PC can enchant items pemanently.
You will find a rich, beautifully designed world laden with Forgotten Realms lore.
You will find Mistledale to be very friendly to new players, with informative NPC's.
You will be able to travel to Netherese tombs, the Underdark, the surrounding Cormanthor forest and of course, to fabled Myth Drannor, painstakingly built using the boxed set "Ruins of Myth Drannor".
You will find the DM Staff to be very mature and helpful.

You will find Mistledale under the Role Play section in GameSpy multiplayer.
All you need is CEP 2.3. All we need is you.

My favourite is Legacy of the North.

Although it's lack of players can effect roleplay which, when possible is of a high standard. There's plenty of places to explore and items, though plentiful, are not overly powerful. It's a good place for beginners, but the higher level dungeons are difficult enough to require parties most of the time.

The only mod required is CEP 2.3.

There's now only a handful of regular players, all of which are friendly and experienced gamers. Like I said though, it needs more players.

Well, I hear the World Serpent Inn has some good roleplayers. You could check that out, if you want. Needs CEP, though.

I'd also like to throw my server into the ring as well. Kingdom of James in the PW Story category provides plenty of rp oppurtunity along with action. I feel my world has a comfortable balance that players enjoy.

World Serpent Inn is a lovely server. It's beautiful, well designed, and the administration is some right friendly folk. I'll throw in my server as well, for the whole options thing. www.planarlegends.com - T'is Sigil.

Without knowing if you like haks, dislike haks, or what not it is hard to suggest anything. Yes we are highly rp server and have very little ooc. Yet we are also very slow advancement and are into the more rp heavy catagory than most. Then there is some other servers mentioned that I dare say do not fall into what you state you ar elooking for unless you find the right group...but then again they might be perfect for you and we would be horrible for you...without more info none of us can say anything but check these out or us out or just the rp section on Gamespy out.

I honestly don't believe there are any great PWs out there. Many of them seem to have major flaws. The best of the bunch would be, in my opinion, Arelith. It's some way off being a great PW, but it's about as good as it gets. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Most present PWs, I'd give a 4 or 5, but maybe I'm a perfectionist. If you're an RPer, Arelith will serve most of your needs and only make you sigh occasionally. It also gets a very, very good player count (sometimes above 120).

I wouldn't go by kalbaern's list, personally. FRC gets a fairly good player count, but it's very cliquey and the module itself is ugly and plain. I struggle to see anything appealing or unique about FRC. TSM seems quite nice, but it gets hardly any players, for whatever reason, and that doesn't seem likely to change any time soon. WSI and The North would be strange choices too, as they're both quite small-time.

I mean, if you're highly RP-orientated, you're going to want a popular server. That's natural. You will want a server which averages at least 15 players on. Amia is very popular, but worthless in my opinion. About as bad as it gets, and it attracts all the OOCish power-gamers.

Ravenloft is definitely worth a shot. A genuinely unique, well-crafted server. I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. It's probably the most RP-orientated server of them all. You will find zero OOCers there. You can really immerse yourself in the atmosphere. I definitely think you should try it.

Escaped from the Underdark is also worth a shot. It's, again, very RP-orientated and genuinely well-made. Places like Ravenloft and EfU are so much better than FRC, because great care was clearly put into their making. You can really immerse yourself in their worlds, whereas you can't do this on FRC because of its plain, hurried ugliness and lack of any depth. Though it's down to the RPers to make RP, it's no coincidence that the best RPers tend to play on those servers which provide the best starting base for RP (the module).

You might like to try Narfell or Arabel, but both have major flaws (IMO). They've both been going for a long time and dwindled rather than progressed.

So, my recommendation is: Arelith, Ravenloft or EfU.
