New to PW's
« on: October 21, 2010, 02:43:02 am »

               A friend of mine and I wanted to try a PW.

I was interested in a PW that resembles Neverwinter. By this I mean that it has a fair amount of cash, magic and missions. Put another way, I want to avoid "realistic" worlds  or hardcore rule worlds or worlds that are money and magic poor.

Besides the above, it would be nice if the world is active with many players.

Regards

               So more action? We would NOT be for you but some that would;

Action;

Higher Grounds

World of Arena

If less hardcore then these would work for you too I think;

Myth Drannor

World Serpent Inn

               I hate to discourage a potential player, but if you're looking for something a lot like the original NWN, the World of Aenea probably isn't for you.  Aenea's game difficulty is set to D&D hardcore (so spells like fireball will hurt the caster and party members if caught in the area of effect), and we've got a lot of other changes that pull the game away from default NWN and more toward pen and paper style action.

               Just going on assumptions here...but he didn't say action specifically. He just said a FAIR amount of loot and progression....which kind of makes sense for me also.

General Fear, I am afraid that most roleplay servers have interpreted roleplaying as something that must be totally realistic and very slow progression. Also there is too much talking going on usually.

However...if you still want a roleplay experience...but not over the top I can recomend a couple of servers that are listed in my X-Fire guild (see my sig).

Just by the way...X-Fire is a good way to keep track of your favourite playing buddys...

               A little note about my list...Cormanthor that is listed there is actually quite slow progression and low magic. With the right friends you can have fun there though. It is a beautifully done server...

Just get the huge amount of HAK's hehe....

               Since 'high-low' magic (etc.) are subjective decisions, although I'd say ArgentumRegion might not be a perfect mix (as it is very PNP in style) it does offer a lot of features you may find intriguing (run the tutorial aka Noob U. to see many such features demonstrated).

66.232.100.90 cep2.1 or better the only hak needed.

Be well. Game on.

Yes why play a social game in a multiplayer enviorment and do something like talk?

He asked for worlds without the realistic approach or PnP approach that worlds like FRC, CoA, and TSM take so I pointed him to servers that do not take such a flow and have easier progression states without resorting to childish and boorish behaviour by calling out other play styles.

I understand you do not agree with realistic role playing servers and contuine to try and do the woe is me approach but it is weighing thinner every day.

Yes, we get you do not like the players list.
Yes, we get you do not agree with slow progression.
Yes, we get that you think the server should be more WoWish than PnP.

What you fail to get though is that many of us do not lean towards that and as we get older we even more long for PnP style and devolping our Characters in ways that tell a story.

I do not say your approach is wrong just different than ours. You on the other hand, state ours is wrong.

Maybe trying to NOT throw stones with every posting would go along way towards erasing a perception of martyrdom that you insist upon.

My bad Amethyst.

I have only tried your server once or twice so thought it would be a good choice for him.'Posted

               Though it's found under RolePlay on GameSpay, try out "The High Forest". You can definately hit 40th in a month or so and they've fairly uberish loot available.

               I have to ask what you are after in terms of high amount of cash and magic. We (World Serpent Inn) were mentioned above and we do tend to be higher than more strict servers, but it would depend what you are after too.

That said, we keep the exp and loot fairly forgiving for the more casual gamers that don't have hours a week to put into it. However, buyable items do max out around +4 with a few other properties with the higher stuff being relics or artifacts that only are dropped by bosses or DMs for events and good rp. We are an rp server at heart and while we don't mind if action gamers or whatnot want to just play and enjoy the dungeons, we reward those who develop their characters and stories and take a part in the world itself.

If that sounds good, feel free to drop in any time. I do recommend checking our forums (www.worldserpentinn.com) to check out the subraces and other custom stuff we have in case you want to use them.

Have fun in any case and good luck finding your ideal server! 'Posted

Nothing bad in that, I see it as a compliment when others recommend my PW.  I just figured that Aenea might not be quite what General Fear is looking for, so I'd hate to have him/her download and install my rather large package of haks only to be disappointed to find it's not suited to his taste.

Although...taking a few hours to explore any PW might expand the potential play horizons of any player, allowing them to discover something they didn't know they'd enjoy. 'Posted

Two of our Staff who wandered in from Action Servers and have been on the server daily for about 18 months now. Honestly finding a server is a lot harder than just finding systems you enjoy.

Also this is good advice for Builders/Scripters as well. I have probally dled everything at least once from the Vault to look and see how other people have done things or gone to another server to see the way things are doen there.

Sharing ideas and helping to expand on things from other sources helps a lot. Like our Water Wheel we use for a Hin Village was discovered looking at another servers way of making it. Or the idea of creating a new bridge with the careful placement of rafts.

The Community of NWN has been blessed to have some veyr bright and creative minds. Embracing those who enjoy Action or people like myself that are on the extreme of immersion role playing is not wrong. It is good to celebrate those differences rather than use those differences to detract from one another.

               Being new I think you should just try a few. Role a few characters up in the aforementioned PW's and give them a whirl. If you go into a world with a lot of stipulations and ideas of how things should be you are bound to be disappointed. If you go in with a fault finding attitude you will find faults. So being new to PW's try some different ones, even those that don't fully fit your criteria.
From my own experience I have had a blast in many different worlds I played in, and though most were very different, they all had that certain something that only comes from hard work, time, and dedication, along with style and creativity in various measures.

               Tons of Gold and Treasure to Find and Purchase, A Boatload of Subraces to Make Each Character Unique, Over a Hundred and Fifty Quests  . . and High Magic with precious few rules?

Sounds like someone needs a dose of Eternal Destiny ? ?
