Still looking for a new server to play on!
« on: September 21, 2010, 01:06:10 am »

Posting a new thread, since my last one went off-topic pretty hard.

I'm gonna be much more explicit about the requirements this time around, since folk rules-lawyered their way around my more polite request last time.

1.  Requires minimum of 1GB of custom haks that includes at least 1 item (art resource, class, or proper custom spell with its own .2da and .tlk entries) that was developed specifically for the server itself and that appears nowhere else.  This is non-negotiable.  NO USE OF THE CEP ALLOWED.  Must also have a minimum of 3 custom prestige classes.

2.  The setting must not have any connection to the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.  If your server takes place anywhere in the Forgotten Realms or any part of Realmspace, I'm sorry, I'm just not interested.

3.  No custom spells, feats, or abilities that are implemented via widgets.  Similarly, no workarounds in general to avoid hak use.  If you have custom spells, they need to be in my character's spellbook, right alongside the standard spells.  If you have custom feats, they need to be right there on my character sheet, not as widgets in my inventory.

4.  I'm looking for a full-on roleplay server where people are in-character all the time, but one that doesn't have a condescending or purist attitude toward people who also enjoy other aspects of the game, including PvP combat (in-character and as part of the roleplay, of course) and dungeon running.  Preferably populated by folk with experience in a broad range of online games, not just NWN and D&D.

Disclaimer:  This thread is not an invitation for people to judge or discuss my taste in servers, my opinions on the game, or my preferences in gaming, in general.  If you have a server that fits the above criteria, please post a link to your forums, chances are I'd love to play on it.

Thanks!

Uncertain if it fills all the criteria listed, but for a customized world, you may wish to look at the World of Aenea. See here for more info:

http://www.amethyst-...m/nwn/index.php

And in these Forums here:

               Hm.

Well, my main reason for excluding the CEP is that usually when people use it, that means that they stop developing their own, server-specific haks (Some servers treat this as a point of pride, a-la "All you need to play on our server is the CEP and nothing else!" but I think that kind of compatibility-oriented thinking depreciates the customization that is NWN's biggest strength).

So I'll tell you what.  If your server uses the CEP but also has significant amounts of additional, non-CEP haks (And fulfills all the other criteria, spells/feats/classes properly implemented, etc.), go ahead and post a link anyway.  I was just very explicit and bold-text-y in my original post to scare away the CEP-only servers right off the bat.

I read just recently that Amethyst Dragon is replacing almost all existing staves with newly created tops/middles/bottoms. check out the Forums on Aenea for more updated info, as well as the previous links. While I cannot currently play, I had a grand time while there, and was present for the Three Hour Tour visit described on the NW Vault.

Aenea looks promising, but according to the website PvP is not allowed outside of a specified arena location.

That's problematic for me, I thrive on conflict between characters, and conflict between characters isn't really fun for me if there's no teeth behind it (The threat of combat).

There were enough NPC's about the maps to engage including a couple of DM characters that made PvP a non-issue for me. My bouts were generally all verbal, humorous, and part of the fun (esp mimicking a certain leading female Drow). And the arena was only used by myself a couple of times for DM events, as I dislike PvP as a rule.

Where Aenea excels is that one may run solo, or gather friends for small party runs depending entirely on the indv player's wishes. You like Action and wanna skip the RP? Fine; just do not interrupt others that are chatting instead of killing the local wildlife. But I do advise on making friends, as the soloing is not nearly as entertaining, IMO.

Heh. Another fail, because that's totally our standpoint.

Heh, well, everybody's got different tastes.  The pro-compatibility point of view is certainly the more popular one too, I think.  It's just personally not for me.

I checked out Aenea and, though it was quite nice, there were a few things that made it tricky for me to play there, so I'm still looking!

If any servers are out there that meet my criteria, please don't be shy about posting a link!

I hear there might be a couple of servers in development that'd fit the bill perfectly... cough.

I'll probably stalk tag along with Eradrain now and then when/if he finds a suitable place, so I'm following this thread with interest too.

Disclaimer: Jenna is awesome and the WSI is great, but I'm much too lazy to install the CEP.
