The server is comprised of more than 1337 Areas, the majority of them ARE in fact interconnected (NOT by the 'Upworld'). From the location in the city where you arrive (portside) your PC can walk/climb/jump/swim to access more than 392 surface areas, and from there, via many (well hidden caves) access more than 400 subterranian locations including many dungeons. The (poorly described) magic item the 'Gathom' does in fact grant access to an 'ancient place' known as 'Upworld' where portals are setup to convey the user to ANY OF THE CONTIGUOUS SURFACE AREAS around the city of Dohral - the Upworld also has several unused portals which will eventually allow access to the many islands and other locations but the poster - utterly uninformed about the subject, yet full of disinformation - seems to think Dohral (the city) is located on an island. This could not be more wrong, Dohral is a coastal city on a vast continent; an dot of civilization amid wild and amazing land.
Of the 1337+ areas that comprise this amazing robust lag-free and stable module are a FEW that are not accessable by a PC walking, but instead require ship or planar travel. There are also about 100 areas (a few less than that actually) that are special for DMs in that they represent places we have not built (generic forest, plain, desert, urban, etc. Areas that a DM can use in game to simulate 'far flung places'... for these special DM areas you need a DM to port you.
Aside from the 'patrolled and civilized areas' there are MANY monster spawns, they change from day to day, and even by season and time of day so it can be hit or miss to find a monster - this variability makes it harder for a player to exploit spawns and was an in-built feature of our NESS adaptation. There are even spawns that occur only when no DM is online to further spice things up when no one is at the helm.
Note, even urban locations have some spawns at night (like a night hag that sometimes hunts the port areas, vampires preying on humans secretly by night at times and even a few wizards' summons gone awry delivering an occasional hell hound to the night streets. It is advised that PCs not travel the city alone by night, but this is an excellent way to prove the prior poster totally wrong in just one game-nights foray.
Spawns 'only for low level PCs'? Oh please, bring your first level PC and walk the city by night and then tell me how 'low level' that Night Hag feels. LOL. Trolls. Oh, and our in game trolls (the monster kind) they regen like D&D trolls, try those on for size sometime with your lowbie PC. LOL.
One grain of truth in the prior posters post : "City of Dohral tries to be as realistic as it can, so dungeons are extremely hard to find." How the writer moves from this to it being bad for RP is beyond me; seems totally IC to have hard to find dungeons lest they should ALREADY BE CLEARED OUT BY PRIOR ADVENTURERS eh?
THIS IS A RP SERVER - RP-enhanced to be specific. Scripts track your IC actions and words and automatically award XP (on next visit) for all RP on the present visit without DM help. You get XP for exploring (adventurers) and for many other IC actions (like wizzies collecting tomes for example).
We generally update the server several times a month and when Erin (our lead scripter) is not down with a flu (as she has been the last 45 days on and off) we update about twice a week, fixing bugs on a priority basis (game breaking stuff first which is why most any 'bug' you may find is NOT game breaking but minor if that). I love it when these trolls complain without naming any game-breaking bugs, rather citing nebulous and unspecified bugs and just saying 'you should not play here'. TROLL much?
Eriniel, our lead scripter is Masters degree level programmer. Impressive hardly begins to describe what she's accomplished in scripts for this server. Note this is a server so stable it had ONE hour of down time in 2012 (to replace a failing hard drive). Typically, the server crashes about once a year, and lags pretty much never. The poster-troll is frankly delusional or wishes to delude YOU the reader.
When we (rarely) boot a PLAYER it has nothing to do with 'aggressive play style' - you should ask Valerion about that (a very aggressive but RP oriented PLAYER with many of his PCs) ... a PLAYER WITH US FOR ALMOST THREE YEARS and still finding new places to explore hidden well and worth the effort or so he says. We have over half a dozen DMs, and our DMs encourage RP at all times. Our PLAYERS are excellent RPers.
Rules are clearly posted, on signs near entry, on our web, on our wiki, on our forum and to some extent in journal entries. There is a host of help info for those who have eyes to see them and read, but appearantly not for trolls who come only to bash. Lack of maturity? Please. Are you gonna cry cause you were booted for breaking rules and running exploits? Sad. This honestly sounds like the person we booted for exploiting a trap removal xp script thru several levels while we two DMs watched invisibly and unknown to the PLAYER doing the exploit - this just minutes after a rogue PC had offended the exploitive PLAYER and sent a tell threatening revenge (segue to moments later and the exploiter is cranking up a rogue PC with a exploit they obviously knew could be worked for endless XP and yet never reported. RULE NUMBER ONE IS REPORT BUT DO NOT ABUSE EXPLOITS WHEN FOUND.
I am the admin, and lead builder. We have ONE diety that I know the FR also uses, and we do use the 'non-human pantheon' of old, but LOLTH is a deity common to DND long before the FR was out. Here is a quote from the D&D wiki on that matter :
"Lolth was created by Gary Gygax for the World of Greyhawk campaign setting, later appeared in the Forgotten Realms setting, and in 3rd edition became a member of the default pantheon of D&D gods."
So as you see, Lolth is actually a 'default pantheon' deity. We use the non-human deities originally published in the Dragon Magazine back in the 1980's from articles by (a man who was later the editor of the magazine) - Roger Moore (a personal friend of mine). The whole FR is considered 'another world' as this is an original campaign setting - in the great traditions of D&D set somewhere in the Multiverse. Now, I understand some like published settings but I prefer to not have so much published lore about my settings - PLAYERS can exploit that and worse, it makes for preconceptions that I'd need hundreds of books to 'know', and I don't have that at present having given away my entire FR collection more than a decade ago to a friend who had lost his in a divorce. Besides, I've been doing D&D since 1978 and have long experience in creating interesting original settings. One note, the DROW of the FR are secretly invading our world, shhhhh!
This is a server intended to be PG13 in nature. It DOES NOT ALLOW CYBER. We do not condone it, if I see it in public channels it gets a ban. NWN does not allow us to see TELLS (as DMs nor admins) and so we cannot control what happens in that channel. We caution all our PLAYERS and DMs that you CANNOT KNOW THE AGE OF THOSE YOU ARE PLAYING WITH AND WE ADVISE AGAINST ADULT THEMES FOR THIS REASON. This is all posted lore on our various wiki, web, forum, and in game locations. So, more lies from the troll, please do not believe anything they say.
Our server has a system for lineage, tracking who is related to who. it is being tested atm among our lycanthropes. It does not yeild anyting explicit in the sex act but does track pregnancies and challenges (by quest) the parents to raise the offspring successfully or pay heavy XP penalties. This gives our lycos something 'vulnerable' to consider in their RP, and helps link them to nature more. I find it amazing and even a little funny that these miscreants constantly mischaracterize our parental-linage system with something obsene or offensive. Like knowing who your parents are is offensive to anyone?
On the 'racism' comments, please see my other posts, the DM and his trollie friends we recently had to ban were trying to get trouble started among different races, without regard to the nature of the setting. The city is on land leased by humans from dwarven overlords. FAT chance getting the humans to dislike or be racist to their landlord (they like where they live and generally like the neigbors and are generally tolerant of outsiders because it is a trading port city). The DM we had to dismiss and his friends are all hell-bent on 'every race has to hate or distrust all the other races' which is just not the case in all settings. All of them would do well to absorb something of the setting before departing on such strange and unsettling tangents. That DM was a troublemaker for a LONG time and had been warned repeatedly. His friends get him all worked up and then he acts foolishly, a liability that I will not miss at all.
Where goblins, kobolds and other 'typically hostile to civilized folk' races are concerned we do allow them, and they are NOT universally trusted by the more standard races, not at all. Some few do earn a reputation as being a bit different but on our server, most 'evil' races get the sort of reception you'd expect them to get, minimum distrust and often hostility - until they prove themselves an exception to the norm for their type. We are very permissive about choice of races and subraces at this time BECAUSE WE ARE TESTING OUR SUBRACE SYSTEMS, but that DM and those trouble PLAYERS were constantly harping on 'oh you cannot do that you must make it restricted'. Duh, go build your own server and restrict it all you like; we are testing here.
These trolls are constantly citing events that NEVER HAPPENED ON OUR SERVER. There was a PC who was a victim (not RP'd but part of a ugly moment in a gnoll raid where the PCs and other NPCs were overwhelmed by attackers who ... FADE TO BLACK. The victim, a PC whose PLAYER wanted this for a backstory, requested pregnancy and the DM chose to allow it. Go read what PG 13 is and when you trolls understand what it is maybe you can come back here and explain why that does not fit. I think you will not - as even nature shows discuss pregnancy and young. This, again, is a facet of the lineage system - realism even to include MORNING SICKNESS and other pregnancy related issues. Yet there is NOTHING EXPLICIT, no SEX at all in the system. If it happens (cyber) on the server it is privately in TELLS and I am utterly unaware of any. We are simply NOT AN ADULT SERVER.
OK as the prior poster included a bit of data in violation of a CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT - we will have to take legal action on that count too. Bobby Brown, in the future, do try to obey the agreements you make, the law can be very very picky about such things. Oh and thank your friends for all your troubles, THEY did this to you, those trolls.
I laugh to see the accusation that I am a 'wanna be admin' - dude I HAVE A SERVER IT IS RUNNING AND RUNNING WELL FOR YEARS. YOUR SERVERS ARE ALL GONE, YOUR PLAYERS GONE, AND NOBODY CARES. Wanna be? Dude you are collectively so jealous it is hilarious.
