PW - A Tale of Bone and Steel
« on: August 10, 2010, 01:29:47 am »

A Tale of Bone and Steel is a persistent NWN1 world set in a world balancing between Celtic beauty, heroic savagery, and the dawn of chivalry. It is a world threatened by the return of an undead god, and torn by the politics of a decadent wizard empire and the tribal feuds enduring from the outer kingdoms' barbaric past. It is a world in which heroism can take many forms, from the might of a sword arm to the wisdom of the spirit worlds. Come and see for yourself.

A Tale of Bone and Steel includes:
    - An original setting with its own mythology.
    - Cultures, some original and some based on real world iron age cultures, with their own outlooks and customs.
    - Heroic bloodlines and spiritual gifts to make a Player Character a figure of mythology.
    - Room to grow and expand, and make your character a SOMEBODY in the world.
    - An original death system that assumes that a Player Character is the protagonist of his own story, and doesn't just die ignobly from a run of bad luck.
    - An growing underworld in which the dead may still adventure.

We use the following Haks:
    - Familiar & ...n Fixes by Ben Harrison and The Krit
    - Golem Helms by Ben Harrison
    - Greek Helm Heads by Ben Harrison
    - Wizard Hats (Wearable) by Ben Harrison
    - WoRms (9) New Tilesets by WoRm, specifically the wrm_SeasonalV10.rar, wrm_FantasyInt.7z, and wrm_undersea.rar

Ongoing updates continue. We've recently updated the Goblin Labyrinth (yes, inspired by the movie Labyrinth), and the thieves' guild.

A major story event is happening this Friday, so now is a pretty good time to establish one's self.

This world has been a great amount of fun. Designing a character with a unique feel is at the core of the world, which was created all on its own. With the plots starting up now, you can join some of the other low level characters such as my own in making changes in the world!

Look for me, and let's form a party.

While I left at least temporarily for my own reason, I can testify to the quality of the server and the roleplay to be found within. Nowhere else have I played where my characters could achieve so much and have such an impact on the game world. All a character's success depends on is how its player guides and roleplays his or her character's actions.

The world is alive and breathing and only awaits more player to live and breathe within it.

Just glancing at the lore on previous villains, and seeing the lore hinting the upcoming ones... Destroying their starting city was not jumping the shark, the best is yet to come!

I'm now working on crime and crime-fighting in the capital city, as well as friends and foes from the natural forces.

Tomorrow I am introducing some new villains to keep up some activity before the main threat rears its head.

The Skull Riders shall soon be seen riding across the land.

Any players looking for a place to try out, might want to grab the haks we're using, and give us a try. Right now there isn't a big community, so one gets the chance to try and establish one's self fairly quickly. The general level of magic is rising, with support for higher level characters being implemented.

I want to get a bit larger of a community before I get a larger plot going.

After a recent discussions, we've chosen to start working on some major improvements, making the server much less restrictive and increasing the readily available magic, as well as writing more to support the dark and savage feel I wanted to present. So, over the next couple months I shall be doing a rebuild!

A recent improvement has been the addition of some magical conjurations to the crafting menu. If someone can beat the spellcraft DC, they can do such things as conjure small animals or usable furniture like chairs and tents. It's a fun little addition, meant to give mages more of a feeling of magic's versatility, but also of its risks. If you fail the role, you take damage. That's the price of messing around with forces beyond your ken.

After some demoralizing events, this server is still going. It's story goes on, and the players are mostly happy at present. We could use some more players to make the world come more to life, admitedly.
I have wondered a few times, if the bioware forums are at all useful for creating a player base though. I have updated this thread several times without replies from anyone, and it just gets buried.

Hey, if it was not for this threads like this, I would not be here. I am just getting back into NWN after eight years of not playing, and came right to this site to look for PWs! Thank you for posting this thread, and I will be sure to check out your server.

A Tale of Bone and Steel has taken a temporary haitus, while I work on a kind of "sequel". The community finally collapsed in a storm of stupid, but the idea of the place is still vibrant and alive. It shall rise again!
