Legion of Darkstar: The Sword Coast Adventures
« on: August 06, 2010, 03:00:24 pm »

               Greetings everyone!

We used to run a Rhun module, Legion of Rhun, but decided we wanted to do things a bit differently than what Rhun had, so we build our own module.

A bit of info about our world:

Full RP, but not forced, you can play your mood.  We are aiming for canon Forgotten Realms, with a few things thrown in from other universes.
Troublemakers, cheaters, and those out to ruin others' gameplay aren't tolerated.
We allow pvp, but it must be consentual.  There are arenas such as The Prisoner's Carnival in Luskan, and a tavern in Waterdeep where there is no death penalty for dueling, and those two places do not require consent.
Scarface's XP system, persistant Bank, and a toned down version of his forge are in place.
There are many static quests that offer unique rewards, or buffs for items as rewards.
Instead of the class based guilds from Rhun, we have Organizations that are more dependant on your alignment and how you role play your character.

We do not use a subrace engine, but we do have an appearance changer if you would like to roleplay a subrace such as Kobold, Orc, Minotaur, Illithid, Vampire and so on.

We do large scale, DM quests.  In the past, some of these stories took several weeks to a couple of months.
These quests can affect the realms permanently.

Our world is constantly growing, the builder team does weekly updates with new content ranging from new monsters, new quests, or new areas.  The latest changes are adding the persistant bank, and forge system.

Come visit our forums for more info.  You do have to join to see everything, it is free:
http://legionofrhun.freeforums.org

Our module is found in the Role Play section of GameSpy:
Legion of Darkstar:  The Sword Coast Adventures

CEP ver 2.2 is required

Thanks for checking in!

               Two comments....

1. The tlk you use isn't the common one in CEP atm.   Had to rename one to gain access.

2. Some documentation on your subraces would be appreciated as I belatedly discovered I couldn't just chose any appearance with the PC I happened to create.  I looked on your forums and found nothing comprehensive and/or recent on your subraces.

thanks

Karvon, we use CEP 2.2.  Most folks probably have 2.3 right now.  We'll upgrade sometime in the future.

I replied to your post on the subraces.  That was a great question.  Since we basically took our original content from the old Rhun module, and expanded on that, most of our players were familiar with the rules for the subs already.  I never thought about posting it.  Anyhow, I replied to your post on the forums, and I'll re-post it here for you:

We don't use a subrace engine, all you need is to be of the base race to select the subrace desired from the subrace appearance changer.

Our subraces are Appearance Only. Our experience with subrace engines in the past was not favorable on the development side.

The Subrace Appearance Changer is for sale at the Welcome Map Store, when you enter the module.

Half Orc- Ogre, Troll, Orc, Ogre Mage

Halfling- Goblin, Kobold, fairy, imp

Human- Vampire, Illithid, Lich, Shadow

Elf- Medusa, Succubus, Illithid

Dwarf- Azer

All get choices for wings, except dwarf, Half Orc, and Halfling I believe.

Currently, there are no options for Half Elves. If there are any special requests, I'm sure they can be accomodated.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for checking us out!

A bit about our Role Play based organizations:

We have NPC's that will enlist you into the organizations.
You may only join one organization.  Joining gets you an ID Token that will allow you to port to your headquarters from almost anywhere in the realms, and then back to your original location.

Details:
Horde of Gruumsh:
Requirements- Must be Evil, must RP as an orc, ogre, troll, goblin, or kobold.
For this reason, your character should be base race Half-Orc, or Halfling.
The horde is basically just that, a Horde of Orcs, and similar monstrous races out to rule the realms.

Shadow Thieves- Must be Evil, Must be Rogue, Assassin, or Shadowdancer.
The Shadow Thieves are out to spread thier influence through theft and assassinations.  Their goals are not truly political, they are more about gaining wealth, and powerful artifacts.  Rumor has it that they serve the Shadovar.

Waterdhavian Guard- Must be Lawful Good
This is the WD Watch, and Guard rolled into one.  They are the police, soldiers, and sometimes ambassadors for Waterdeep.  Wherever they may go, they must always represent the interests of Waterdeep.

Red Sashes- Must be any Good
These are a clandestine group of vigilantes.  They seek revenge against evil doers for those who cannot.

Blacktalons Mercenary Company- Must not be Lawful Good
Any job from caravan guarding, to castle guards, to raiding party, to private army.  These folks pull no punches and will get the job done.

Zhentarim- Must be Evil
Basically the army of Bane and his allies.  Bent on world domination, they are also involved in slave trade, illicit substances, and other nefarious activities.

The Order of the Forest- Must not be Evil, Must be Ranger or Druid.
These people live to serve and protect nature.  Dare you not chop down a tree needlessly around them.

Bregan D'aerthe- Must be Evil, should RP as Drow, or Drow ally such as Illithid, or Duergar
Servants of the famed Jarlaxle, this group has been known to serve the Matrons of Menzoberranzen, or others who can pay the wages demanded by the leadership.  Rumor has it that some recent events in Luskan were "assisted" by their machinations.

Harpers- Must be Good, preferrably have some magic, or bardic background but not required.
General do-gooders, the Harpers help root out corruption among the legitmate governments, and face threats against the realms.  Lead by Elminster the Sage of Shadowdale, and Storm Silverhand, this group tends to find adventure everywhere they go.

Moonstars- Must not be evil
Similar to the Harpers, a splinter group actually, founded and lead by Khelben Blackstaff Arunsun.  Their concerns are usually centerred on events that either do, or will affect Waterdeep.

Red Wizards of Thay- Must be evil, must be wizard or sorcerer
Ah, evil wizards with unlimited power!!  This group is lead by the lich Zsass Tam who is looking to further his influence, and collect great items of power.  The Red Wizards have been seen frequently around Luskan, since the fall of the Hostower Arcane.

I've been playing on this server for quite awhile, and I think it's a great server for those of us who just want to have some fun. It's a role play server, but other styles of play are welcome too. I think it's great that I can do what I feel like doing, and not always being forced to role play. I do love role play, but sometimes I just like to do quests, or whack some baddies with my sword.

There is plenty of things to do on this server. There are many of us here who love to role play, and we welcome any new players who want to join us. If you're not in the mood for role play, there are dozens and dozens of quests for all level ranges. If you just feel like fighting, well you can do that too. There is even an arena for those of you who prefer pvp. However pvp is by consent only, so no worries for anyone who doesn't like to pvp.

I have found the players here to be quite friendly and mature. Yeah, some of us are old, lol. The dms are great too. Always willing to help, and welcome new players. The server is always being updated, and the head dm Butcher Dogblood, is always willing to take ideas and suggestions from the players, and add them into the module. I'm just a player here, but a lot of my ideas have already been added to the server. Even a village from one of my background stories. More ideas and suggestions are welcome from everyone, even from new players.

I guess I have said enough already. Time for me to go and have some fun. We hope that you all will come join us. 'Posted

               Thanks for that Sadira.

We're always striving to improve, and we do like to use as much as we can from suggestions.  It may take time, and we can't do everything, but we try.

Ah, the server name is Legion of Darkstar, module is called "The Sword Coast Adventures"
Legion of Rhun was our old module, and Maverick (the server owner) wants to keep the old forums because of all the work we put into them.

The new quest is meant for High Teens to mid Twenties. You can do it in the upper level range though. For lower level characters, just be sure to kill the mages quickly.

Having your own mage in the party will help also by buffing the party with see invisibility, and dispelling those pesky acid sheaths.

The reward item is nothing stellar, but it is most certainly useful.

Enjoy yourself!

A friend and I started playing here recently (mostly as a refreshing change from modding and less casual roleplay, personally), and we've found it to be nicely put together, with helpful and active staff. Hunting areas are well scaled and spaced out, and despite a bunch of custom things the general feel and magic level is fairly close to the original campaigns, so it's probably very beginner friendly too.

Thanks!

Glad to hear you are enjoying the place!  I was especially encouraged to see how proficient with roleplay both of you are.  You're buddy is helping me with some scripting also, Baaleos helped me greatly in the past too.  It's great to get input from folks who are script savvy, ALL of our NWN worlds get better through the sharing of knowledge, and that's a great thing!

Thanks for joining us!  It's a pleasure to have you.

Well, Sunday we did a mini quest, mini meaning it was resolved in one episode.  Everything went very well, so we'll do another mini probably not this weekend, but next.

I kind of like mini's in a way as opposed to a full ongoing quest scenario because things can be more carefully prepared and don't end up revolving on one character having key information that everyone else has to wait for before the plot can proceed.

This one in particular had an apparent murder, and some suspects that the adventurers had to figure out what the real situation was.  Nothing too complex, but I looked for the "solving" in the Role Play, and was very pleased with the results.  All characters started at level 1, there were a few creatrures to battle, and participants were awarded extra xp for RP.

Reaction to the mini format was very positive, so I'll be sure to plan more of these.  Most likely 2 per month.  Details will be posted on our forums for future events, and I may drop a note here also.

Thanks to all who have popped in to check out our place from these forums, we hope you stick around and get to know the "regular" folks, a great bunch of people all!

You'll be able to better play and RP as Drow, or drow allies in the coming update!

Hope to see you there!

Just a little update for folks:

Our latest project is expanding the Underdark.  We've just started on Menzoberranzan, and have a seperate faction for players that wish to play drow, or drow aligned subraces.

One of our players submitted a new area involving beholders, and some other nasty monsters.  Look for that to become playable soon.

Hope to see you in game!

               Hello, it's me again. 'Posted

Once I was just a player on this server. Now I am a dm and builder too. Here we like to reward our long time players by making them dms or builders or both.

Some new quests added recently include a new beholder cave in the underdark, and a haunted house full of nasty undeads.

Help Gwendolynne the gold dragon remove all the beholders out of her cave. The nasty beholder boss Xorgon has been turning her gold dragons into dracolichs, and she needs your help to stop him.

Help Valerie find her lost husband in her haunted house full of horrors. Her husband joined an evil cult and was not able to leave after. Seems they needed him for a sacrifice to raise their demigod Zarabek. This is a long and very difficult quest which gradually increases in difficulty with each area.

Now in production is a brand new main quest being added, for those level 40 characters who need a challenge.

Brand new main quest for Sword Coast Adventures.

The Time of Dragons has Returned.

Can you find and defeat all five of the nastiest dragons in Faerun?

Tchazzar: Master of the red dragons
Ingeloakastimizilian: Master of the white dragons
Casarial: Mistress of the black dragons
Abazigal: Master of the blue dragons
Chloracridara: Mistress of the green dragons

Once you finish with them, do battle with the one who commands them all:
The meanest nastiest creature in all of Faerun. Well, that one is a surprise. lol  'Posted

The quest starts with the new guard captain in Neverwinter City Core.

The quest will start at any level, but will quickly increase in difficulty, as it is made for level 40. This should give people more things to do for level 40 characters.

The quest will take me awhile to finish, but the first update contains parts 1 to 4. There are 15 parts altogether. Just keep going until you find the construction sign. I'll add a bit more of the quest with each update until it's complete. Be sure to read carefully what the quest people say, and expect a few nasty surprises and other fun stuff along the way. I hope you all will enjoy the quest.

Many thanks to the nice people here in this forum, who helped me with my black water problem. The sewer area is on the server now, and it looks great. My thanks go to you all. 'Posted

Please come and give our server a try. Everyone is welcome. 'Posted

We are Legion of Darkstar server, and Sword Coast Adventures is the module name.

We are listed in roleplay, but we are more of an action server with roleplay as well.
You are free to play how you choose. You can roleplay, or you can just explore and hunt some nasties. You can also do some of the dozens and dozens of quests for all level ranges. More quests being added, as well as the new main quest. We also have a growing underdark, for those of you who love to play drow. Coming in the future will be a main quest for drow characters, or any other of you nasty evil villians.

There are no rest restrictions here. You can rest as often as you want. No food or bedrolls either.

We hope to see some of you here.

Come visit our forums. legionofrhun.freeforums.org

We were once Legion of Rhun. Now we are Legion of Darkstar: Sword Coast Adventures.
