The Silver Marches

Well Met!

Tales of the Silver Marches was first done way back in 2002. After four wipes in those years the current module was deemed a bit unweildingly and realeased and Stonewyvern asked us as Builders and Scripters from large servers ourselves to step in and redo it. So we did.

We used all new systems as well as some of our own and recreated a New Vibrant World...The Silver Marches.

Someone asked how friendly we are to new players and before I had a chance to respond you can see what the Player Base had to say right  here.

A collection of pictures

classes to choose from.

We are an older PW that was completely rebuilt by a few crazy dedicated numbskulls and it seems word of mouth has gone out and we find ourselves with about 5 to 15 people logging in daily. Hopefully the trend stays to the point we soon have 20 people on all the time. Of course that would be ideal though we could handle more than 20 at a time but then would have to seriously upgrade our Staff. I am hoping to stay about a 5 players to 1 ratio on Staff.

We are based in the Forgotten Realms area of the Silver Marches. No…at the moment we do not allow drow as our Underdark is not all in and really...not sure if we could handle a bunch of Drizzit clones running around at the moment. But we are working on it and Drow will be allowed soon as well as 60 plus other Sub Races.

Crafting, new spells…so many different fun little bits to see. Hope you take a look at our forums and our Site and let us know what you think. You can pm here or on the forums under the name TSM Junkie.

We are very close to Pen and Paper in rules and use only the CEP as our hak. We have swimming, teleport, deity and domains. We have Timed, Exploration and even Player Awarded XP. Heck...we have too much to list here but here goes.
I hope you all come and take a peek at us. We would love to have you.

Our death system was designed by a fellow named aptly Axe Murderer. His system allows it so players when they do expire have some options. They can wait and hopefully their erstwhile partners are carrying their bloated corpses back to a Priest to raise them back to life like Max the Miracle Worker.
Or in the Fugue they may take the portal back which will give them some options from taking random items, some vital xp, or gold. Guess you can buy your way out of hell so to speak, lol. You can even choose whether to go to a temple or to the spot you died.

Then our bleeding system is a bit different. When you’re smacked down by a wolf he might eat you or wander away. While a Zombie would of course dig in like you’re the last burger at Rosanne’s House. But a goblin might grab some of your gold or just maybe you gave that bandit as good as you got and he might hunker down a few feet away and try and heal himself up a bit in case that stubborn adventure gets up.

Basically like everything we have added we have tried for three things to guide us.
1/ Character Development.
2/ Fun and challenging…not just one or the other.
3/ The Player Base asked for it.

In that spirit we have installed and modified the following list of features.

Crafting/Tradeskills
Player Housing
True Forgotten Realms Deity System
Spell Storing Devices
Personnel Storage
Hide Level Character List on Start Up
Rest Menu Features
This needs mentioning as it lets you do a host of things dependant on your PC from Scrying to Praying.
Real Seasons and Weather
Real Time
Fishing
Actual Caravans to lead from city to city for gold
Teleporting
New Spells like Blink and Push
Very very unique Items
An intelligent sword that backtalk’s dependant on the area your in
A Robe of Time Stop that can do Time Stop when donned
   A Gladiator Net
   A Cloak of Levitation
Custom Summoning by domains, alignment, schools of Magic
True PnP Style Turn Undead (Heck control them if evil)
Dragon Riding
Horse and Ponies both for riding AND Pack Animals
Pack penguins (don’t ask I was drinking that day)

Gambling from Black Jack to Roulette
Beautiful Designed Naturally Flowing Areas
6 Different ways to gain XP
   Combat/Quest
   Staff Given
   Player Given
   Exploration

Basically like everything we have added we have tried for three things to guide us.
1/ Character Development.
2/ Fun and challenging…not just one or the other.
3/ The Player Base asked for it.

               Character Creation:
Monk can only be taken as a primary class. If you desire to play a monk, you must start the character out as a monk, and if for some reason you multi-class, you may not take additional monk levels after choosing the additional class. The reason for this is that becoming a monk takes years of training mind and body to the point where their abilities manifest. One does not simply decide to become a monk one day and then does it, it takes years of study and practice and the student often starts his training from a very early age. And once you leave a monk order, to pursue another course of training, you are not welcomed back as you have decided that your training has reached a level where you no longer require it. Following certain Gods do allow for SOME multicasting and will be approved on a case by case basis.
No Monk/caster combinations. Because of the years of training of your martial abilities, honing your body to follow your will, it is very difficult to yield that to another power. Therefore monks are not allowed to pursue any profession that would grant them divine spells or abilities. They are just not able to yield their mind to another, though greater power. Following certain Gods do allow for SOME multicasting and will be approved on a case by case basis.
'Fallen' Paladins must be rerolled. If for some reason, a Paladin no longer follows the god whose favor she/he once had, the Paladin loses all benefits of the divine favor she/he was once granted and is reduced to becoming a fighter (rerolled). Should the character regain their God's favor, they may once again take the paladin levels, but their fighter levels remain. In addition to this, the Paladin-Sorcerer combination is not allowed.
Multi-classing; You must, by 20th level, have at least 5 levels in each of the classes to be taken by your character (PrCs inclusive). If you choose to take a PrC, you must have 10 levels in it by 30th level. Multiclass levels may not be further then 15 levels apart from one another. A 5 Fighter/7 Rogue/20 Shadow Dancer is fine. A 5 Fighter/7 Rogue/21 Shadow Dancer is not as the Fighter and SD levels are 16 apart. An in game mechanic prevents this sort of leveling.
You are restricted to 1 PrC only. All PrCs are available, but there should be some rp reason to have them. It is also expected that you role play any changes in your character due to the PrC. Please note that some of the PrCs might have been adjusted, and if you are uncertain please ask. For example, the SD class has had HIPS changed a bit as well as the use of the ability has been restricted. DDs are alignment based depending on their manifestation of the dragon blood, and all PMs are considered to be evil by their act of raising and controlling the undead.
When choosing a name, please do not choose one that is famous or has a title in it. Lord Elrond is and example of the violation of both those guidelines. Titles should be earned through RP, and using names of existing fictional/well-known characters is disallowed for obvious reasons. If your character wishes to have a nickname, the name, included in single quotes would be great. An example would be Angie ‘The Hammer’ Lightbringer. If you use double quotes you will not be able to receive tells.
And please, no offensive names, specifically those of a racial or sexual nature. This is both for your log in name and your character names.
No lightsabres! Some of the CEP sword models resemble lightsabres and are disallowed.
Character Interaction Guidelines:
Treat other players and DMs with respect and be considerate.
No abusive language is ever allowed and will be dealt with quickly and harshly. Any racial or sexual abuse will have you looking for some place else to spend your time. Any intimate contact with a child character will result in immediate action. Now while sometimes the RP calls for some abusive measures, please refrain from graphical or explicit language. There will never be a time where forced sexual relations or rape will be allowed.
No twinking is allowed. Twinking is that act of giving gold and or items to other characters without a firm reason to do so. Giving a small amount of gold or some extra items to some one new is allowed, but to hand over several thousand gold and a few +2 and +3 items to some one you just met is unreasonable.
No transferring gold or items between your own characters. This eliminates two problems, twinking as stated above, and muling, where a character holds onto items for your main character for later use.
Be sensible with your choices in RP. While we hope that people will conduct themselves in a mature fashion, things do not always work out. If you decide to RP the more intimate details of a relationship, please do so in a way that does not intrude on others, and try to keep it within IC reason. As in life, this is an area where some people have a great deal of sensitivity, so please be respectful of your partner(s) and those around you. In addition to this, roleplaying intimacy with a minor is forbidden and can easily lead to a ban.
There must be a reason for engaging in PvP. Your character being a maniacal killer will not suffice to warrant this. If there is an encounter that results in a death requiring a respawn, the players involved must avoid each other for the next 24 (RL) hours. An agreement by both players involved can override this restriction however. Raising people from the dead merely to kill them again is also not allowed.
No Player Killing without consent. Any PvP action that involves subduing the opponent may be taken at any time without the consent of the opposing player(s). Any action that involves the killing of another player must have the consent of both players. Anyone including themselves in a fight is considered as giving consent. This involves any and all aid given to either or all of the combatants. If consent is refused, the character that has refused must then immediately leave the area.
Do not switch characters to overcome a situation. Any player that logs in as another one of their characters to take action against a character, or any of the other characters of a player that has defeated them in combat is considered in violation of our harassment policy. Repeatedly killing or subduing a character or different characters of the same player will be considered violation of our harassment policy and dealt with accordingly.
General Rules:
Use common sense. If you feel something is wrong then it probably is.
Allow the DM to DM. If you feel your understanding of a decision is lacking, feel free to question them as much as you would like, but later via a pm or in tells. Stopping the game play to resolve a dispute is simply not the way to handle it. If you don't feel that you have been treated fairly, feel free to contact another Staff Member and as always, screenshots are a very useful way of explaining your point.
Play according to your character's alignment. One of the most important aspects of your character is his/her Alignment. Alignment is not something that is taken because you wish to qualify for a specific class, but represents the ideals that the character lives by.
If you are uncertain about the specific way that a character should act because of their alignment, bring it up to a Staff Member.
Play your stats. If you have a low intelligence, then you would not be the best planner, if you have a low charisma, you will not be a good leader. This also plays into choosing your stats wisely; min/maxing will be frowned upon.
This is a role play server. Stay in character at all times. Please refrain from using the various OOC forms to communicate to others, try coming up with an IG reason for being AFK or use tells to inform others of your needs or impending inactivity.
No metagaming. Defined as your character using information that he or she does not or could not have is forbidden. Please stick to what your character knows. There is an exception to this when metagaming can initiate RP and no harm is done in doing so (e.g. agreeing OOCly to meet up with someone).
No XP banking. Once you have earned enough experience to advance a level, you must take that level as soon as possible. Avoiding level-up in order to gain the benefits of remaining at your current level is an exploit and will result in the loss of XP earned for that level or worse.
No exploiting. The known use of any method to increase your experience, gold, or item production above normal is considered exploiting. Logging out to prevent negative aspects of either character or environmental interaction is also considered exploiting. Please if you happen to find something that you do not feel is right, find a DM and let them know what is going on. It is the only way to be fair to every one involved.
No bug abuse. If you find a bug, report it to a DM as soon as possible. For example - un-equipping and re-equipping a shield will grant you an additional attack round. This is a game bug and is considered an exploit.
No "Ninja-Looting" is allowed Ninja looting is described as going into an area and getting the containers while avoiding the creature spawns. Per our guidelines, the spawns that are around a loot container MUST be dealt with first before that loot container is opened and the contents taken.  This behavior is not illegal for any "ethical" reason, only because of limited game mechanics.  Also, do not just run through areas for loot. This will be very bad for your characters health should a DM catch you. And remember you will be reported to us by the other players...so just don't do it!
Running ALL the time is not allowed and someone who is seen running constantly could have several different things happen to them from having a legit reason to run...burrowing rust monsters anyone?...to a faituge spell at the worse possible time. A lot of work has gone into the server. Slow down and enjoy it. Run when appropiate and walk when appropiate please.
No harassment. Harassment is defined as the abuse or debasing of another player through either IC or OOC means. This includes, but is not limited to, sexual or racial remarks directed at the player, and either abusive or foul language directed at the player. The first offense of this will usually be a warning by a DM if no evidence is presented. If someone is bothering you OOCly, don't hesitate to report it. PM a DM with screenshots and/or chat log (where possible) so that it can be dealt with quickly.
Two guilds per player. By default, characters may only be in one guild each, and there is a maximum of two guilds per player (account). This is necessary to avoid metagaming that may damage a guild's plans or even the guild as a whole, and also to maintain guild activity, but if you have a character who wishes to join a second guild, or an alternative character who wishes to join a third, it is open for review by the Guild Leaders involved and at least two DMs.
Be active! This is not so much a rule, but an encouragement. If your character has been made a significant character within the TSM world/lore (e.g. a Guild leader) or owns a home/area, then we expect that character to remain active and played mostly. Otherwise these resources can be made available to others, and in case of housing/shops, they are automatically relisted based on lack of activity.
Last but not least, have fun! TSM was and always will have a strong focus on roleplay and a fun environment for all - don't try to ruin it for others and you should get along just fine.

Wiil say, this server is above and beyond any I have played or been a part of in over 8 years.  The rebuild of TSM has attracted new an older players alike.  The world is ever expanding, allowing players to build upon, and become an integral part of the many guilds present, or to eventually start others.

The DMs are completely and totally player friendly, and strive to make the server as immersive as possible.  Quest are happening almsot daily.

The player base is one of the best I have ever seen.  The server is based highly on Role Play, and the players there never let any down.  Background stories and character development abound.

Come see her, you will love what you see, Come play, you will stay.

As one of the original creators, I may be biased, but I think the server and community speaks for itself to anyone that joins us on our adventures.  From the beginning, our goal and primary mission statement has been dedicated to server community enjoyment and interaction.  As an RP dedicated server, we build new stories daily and look to the server community to be an integral part of that.  We don't push OUR stories on you, but expect you to join us to write server stories that you want to enjoy.

Between the strong builder team, unbelievable coding team, and talented DM team, I have yet to see a more dedicated server.  Feel free to come by our forums and website (www.talesofthesilvermarches.com) to see what is going on at any time, but most importantly, stop in to sit by the fire with an ale in the Silverymoon taverns and enjoy the company of other players who also want to live the stories that we all have read and dreamed of.

Just to add my own .02, I want to say that I agree! The Silver Marches outshines every server I've played on in the past ... oh, let's just say since I started playing NWN - and I've been on plenty! Not every server I've been on was as Role Play-intensive as the Marches, but a few were, and most of those ended up being over-run with pretentious characters whose players took themselves and the game entirely too seriously or else the DMs only paid attention to a select chosen few and others never got any "DM love".  They were just no fun.  Not so, for The Silver Marches.

The player-base is made up of some of the most mature, friendliest, most helpful people I've ever come across and the DM interaction is stellar.  Role-play on the server is just plain FUN.  The areas are beautifully planned out and logically inhabited.  Players can actually have a physical impact on the world. For example, if a character role-plays that he has, say, built a small shrine to Shaundakul, the builders will actually add that shrine to the mod for all to see.  The staff is always striving to make things even better, but at the same time, you don't get the feeling that anything is actually missing or broken.

If you're looking for a highly immersive RP server, where you can take a break from the everyday mundane-ness, try it here. I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.

While I have played here for quite awhile way back when the world first started I left when it was discussed that the new one was going to be built. First it is a bit harder than normal as you must really be careful. Running has gotten me eaten…literally…by zombies that randomly appeared the other day. I thought a DM was messing with me but apparently there is random things like that all over the module. I like that.

While I do not agree or even like several of the key builders and the scripter is someone I have always thought of as kind of a rude person but have found that while he lacks in people skills he makes up for in being fair. I just recently discovered that the person I have been complaining to about him is actually him…go figure.

I am happy to say I have converted for good and glad I did come back.

Welcome back, grommet.  Word to the wise: Running IS a dangerous thing to do, unless you're being chased by something. LOL There is every chance you'll run right into something dangerous, but, that's part of the fun.

We have started to allow Sub Races as our Factions have gone in. The Sub Races are a bit different as we do allow through the wonders of scripting a change to thier favored classes and such like allowing a Wood Elf to have a favorite class of Ranger rather than Wizard like a Moon Elf.

We allow a long list of different types of Sub Races which you could find and read about all of them at the links provided.

I was trying to think of anything smart to say, but I had to give up. I have not much more to add than the others have.

Let's just say that I love this place. It keeps me playing to wee hours and sleeping far too little.

And about the running... if builders worked their backside to create beautiful areas for you to enjoy (and I really mean enjoy because many are breathtaking), the least you can do is to slow down and enjoy them.

As it is 3 am at the moment, I will leave it at that. I will post more if I come up with something smarter to say ^.^

Just wanted to apologize to everyone for the numerous Updates through out the day. With such a HUGE number of things to change I wanted it to be exact and some I could not fully test UNLESS I was in the module on Stone's PC.
Thankfully I am done and Crafting is all goody now.
The Dual Action Wands work.
And Factions are mostly and hopefully all ironed out and we now have 30 plus with freeing close to 3k in resources.

Man I need some ale.

EDIT:Wands and Rods
I have tried overrides, custom hak modifying and even messed with force equiping it but none of it works unless players have the override for wands and rods in thier folders which in turn would mean on other servers you would be forced to equip them to us them as well.
Since on TSM we have a long standing tradition of NOT forcing overrides on our Playerbase we are taking these out.
I am sorry for not testing this as good as a player as I should have done as doing it in DM Mode of course was different. I screwed up guys and gals.
I have removed it for tonight/tomorrows update.
