Transitions eating my summons!
« on: May 10, 2016, 08:35:54 pm »

I've put off solving this issue for some time in my module hoping I would stumble on the answer but haven't.  My palemaster summoner can summon several undead at a time using a combination of its various summoning feats.  Most transitions or doors are no problem, I go thru and come out the other side with all my summons intact.  But sometimes I'll lose all but the first one summon after the transition.

I originally had this issue with a couple henchmen I added.  They wouldn't always fail to transition, but often one would disappear thru a transition.

Now I have located a cave exit that goes to a different cave area that reliably produces this problem.  Both transitions target a door and are setup identically except for the TAG of the door they target.  If I go one way, no issue.  If I go the other, I lose all but the first summon.

What should I look at to even address this?

Thanks,

T

Are you using a custom area transition script?

Is it the same transition script being called in either direction when you transition (you say they're set up identically, but thought I'd mention it)?

Is there something that each of those areas that eat your summons have in common (they're all a cave entrance or a trigger or something else)?

You may also want to try to rebuild the door/transition.  Delete the one that's there and put it in again- see if something got corrupted.

Lastly, if you aren't using a custom transition script, you may want to try one that loops through all a PC's henchmen and then jumps them to the owner.

As soon as I can figure out how to fix my installation of NWN so I can get in without it crashing I'll check all that out.  Thanks for the suggestions.

I've never had ATI card problems on this PC in all the years I've played NWN and then out of nowhere I get them all. Kudos to the GOG support page for good suggestions.

You got me thinking! While I was redoing the doors and confirming that everything was identical between them, I realized what wasn't.  It's the delay before my AreaOnExit cleanup runs.  It appears my AreaOnExit event is cleaning them up on areas where it runs without any delay.  The problem was complicated by testing with two players since the cleanup won't run if there is a player still in the area: if you happen to be the first player out, all is good; if not, goodbye extra summons and henchmen.
