NWNX2 + SQLite on Win Server 2008 Question
« on: March 26, 2014, 09:20:58 pm »

I'm new to nwnx so pardon my question if this seems obvious. I'm trying to run nwnx2 with sqlite on my Win 2008 Server. I run nwnx as admin with win-xp compatibility mode. I'm not seeing data being saved in my db file and I only have one idea why (but I'm open to any suggestions to get this to work.)

What I think is happening: The new sqlite is actually called sqlite3.exe (as with the dll files). When I update the nwnx.ini to look for sqlite3 instead, the error logs comment that sqlite3 is not a database option. I'm guessing that the .dll files look sqlite.exe.

I've poured over the mostly dead nwnx forums with no luck.

Thanks!

NWNX2 + SQLite on Win Server 2008 Question
« Reply #2 on: March 26, 2014, 09:57:23 pm »

I understood that the program opens normally, but for some reason does not have data connection or with MySQL too. (NWNX does not write / save on database). I suppose it's not a permission problem, maybe compatibility.

You must install - Windows 7 or XP - which is recommended

I've been through this situation and it was very unpleasant, the good thing is that my Hoster had the option to install windows 7 on own Dedicated Server.

Good to know now (just before the hair pulling begins). Do you know if the sqlite3 exe and dlls matter at all?

I was thinking you had already managed to make it work and was trying to make this work in windows 2008.

You need to check the site http://www.nwnx.org/

There are several ways you can use NWNX2:

MySQL http://www.nwnx.org/index.php?id=tut2

SQLite // They said it's the easiest way, but the easiest ways are bad

ODBC connection http://www.nwnx.org/...hp?id=doc_odbc2 or http://www.nwnx.org/index.php?id=tut1

"will nwnx find sqlite3?" For those who are unaware of SQLite, it is difficult to deduce.

I recommend you use a MySQL connection, because you can configure with certain. You have the name of the database, the username MySQL, password. And also you have the IP setted (no doubts where NWNX will find the data because you set it on nwnx.ini).

; Use these five settings for MySQL connections

source = mysql //do not change it

server = localhost //or your IP

user   = YourUserMySQL

pwd    = YourPassMySQL

db     = YourDatabaseMySQL

MySQL connections seems to be harder because it has many things to set up, but this is not difficult. The parameters are defined.

NWNX2 + SQLite on Win Server 2008 Question

Double checked. Yes it works on my dev machine but not on my 2008 server. Odd. Oh well, I'll have to make a Win7 machine.  Thanks for the tips WhiteTiger =)

((Can't/shouldn't add a second mysql db on my machine or server but sqlite is super portable and passive))

AFAIK NWNX works for both 2003 and 2008 but 2008 same as windows 7 makes few windows plugins incompatible and they are crashing. NWNX_Funcs particulary which is quite a must, so if you can use 2003 consider that...

Im not familiar with any problem with SQLite, but I also have no personal experiences with NWNX on Windows server so maybe its true what WhiteTiger saying, still I would asked at nwnx.org forums instead.

"AFAIK NWNX works for both 2003 and 2008 but 2008 same as windows 7 "

I could not make it work "at all" in windows 2003. I'm not sure if NWNX works on windows 2008.

I had problems using the windows 2003 so I just demand to the hoster change to Windows 7 and everything worked without any permission changes. Everything seemed a matter of system compatibility.

The best choice is - Windows XP or Windows 7 - to run NWNX2 without troubles

After all, windows XP is already being forgotten by microsoft - do not receives more updates.

Sorry,

I could not make it work "at all" in windows 2003. I know there is NWNX since 2005, but not sure that the windows 2008 works (if you made it work, tell me).

Not myself but heard others like Baaleos running their server on Windows server fine. Try contact him if he doesn't notice this thread.

XPs are fine and will be fine for a long time. You do not need updates, good firewall and router setting and you are 100% safe. I didnt even installed SP3 '<img'> .
