Roguelike to dungeon converter 30x30
« on: April 07, 2013, 09:16:21 pm »

               I scripted simple roguelike to dungeon converter that reads text layout.
Like that one below would create 3x3 wall with one empty square at middle.

Example may be watched from youtube
Short clip:

Longer clip:

Example layout:
(different letters used, cause dungeon is easier to read)

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo;
oo___________o___ooooooooooooooo;
oo_oo_oooooo_o___oo___________oo;
oo____oo__oo_o___oo_oo__o__o__oo;
oooooooooooo_o___oo_oo________oo;
o____________oooooo_oooooo_ooooo;
o__oooo__oo___o___o_oooooo__oooo;
o__oooo__oo_____o___ooooooo_oooo;
o____________oooooooooo________o;
o_oooooooooooood_oooooo________o;

               Interesting. Is this done with placeables?

               Yes. Completely with placeables. Script can handle to fill up to 30x30 size areas. So that is 900 squares. Engine limits come soon after that to front. It is easy to add other placeables etc to script also. Mind roguelike letters to spawn as enemies? Mind adding doors and traps?

Notice The d letter in first dungeon text layout. Check long video as "d" spawns that hole at end.

Uploading fast demo with debug text at start so You can figure it out better:

(should be up in couple hours)

               this looks better than the previous "on the fly/random" dungeon creation i've seen with the cage walls.  i can't find the vault entry now.

               Personally I think Blights dynamic dungeon generation method is better. I have old old video of Blight script also. Only thing that I did was cage change to small cube. But with roguelike letters You can quickly spawn more complex dungeons.

Blight script demo with small cubes:
