Faction Fumble...
« on: October 23, 2012, 04:42:29 am »

I am trying to set up a situation in my module that works like this:

The player enters a monster's lair and challenges the leader to a no-holds barred battle.  The fight is meant to be between the leader and the player alone; the leader orders her minions to stand by.  Then the player and the leader duke it out.  If the player wins, the rest of the creatures surrender and become friendly.

I had a setup where I had three faction holders; one for the leader and her minions, one for s faction that's freindly to the player, and one that's neutral to both parties.  In testing, the player was able to convert some of the creatures to the friendly faction [they need to convert so many before they can confront the leader], and then, when confronting the leader, all creatures are supposed to turn neutral so they stand aside and watch the player and the leader fight.  But in testing it didn't quite work.  Not all the creatures turned neutral, and when the test character fought the leader, the creatures who remained friendly to the player got slaughterd by the neutral majority while the player pretty much got ignored until they attacked the leader.  Then all heck broke loose.

I obviously don't have a clear understanding of factions.  I've heard that the basic four are interconnected somehow - Defenders always protect Commoners, for instance.  And when using one of the basics as the foundation for a new faction, it's subject to the same bias [don't know for sure if that's true or not].  So I'd like to know if there's a thread hiddden anywhere in the forums dealing strictly with factions that I can read up on and straighten this mess out.
