How to make small changes to XP system
« on: November 02, 2010, 03:03:51 pm »

Without using a full blown XP system from the vault.

I feel like theese XP systems on the vault change a lot in the default behavior. The one I am most interested in right now is the PWFXP2 but there are some constants which really make me wonder how they differ from default NWN.

I don't know if there is an easy way...to just make it so party members 6 or more levels apart don't get XP (the whole party doesn't get XP then I mean)...and also to add a bonus for grouping.

I think default NWN behavior is to divide the XP between the party members. I would like there to be a divide still...but also a small bonus. Example:

- 1 player kills creature X and gets 100 XP
- 2 players kill creature X and get 65 XP each
- 3 players kill creature X and get 43 XP each
- 4 players kill creature X and get 32 XP each
- 5 players kill creature X and get 26 XP each
- 6 players kill creature X and get 22 XP each*
- 7 players kill creature X and get 19 XP each*

(The multiplikator used was 1,3 on the total. Not to be confused with some of the strange multiplikator used in some of the XP system scripts.)

*) Actually...also one thing that I would like to add...is that the bonus starts fading if the party has 6 or more members...and then a negative "bonus" if the party has 8 or more members.

The NWN is down for maintenance right now, but ... look up Blasco's Fair Kill XP. It's capable of doing all you're requesting (or close to it).

               Hmm...I don't know...

What if I turn the question "around" a little bit. What happends if I do nothing? Just use the default XP system.

What will happen when a level 1 PC groups with a level 10 and they kill a high CR monster?

One thing I've been thinking about...that I don't like so much...but one way could be to script to make it impossible for PC's more than 6 levels apart to group at all....(?).

Leaning mostly towards the PWFXP2 system.

That seems to be the one that differs the least from the default system....at least once I remove the tampering with the linearity of the leveling...

This is harder to do. The ony real way to stop PC's from grouping is with a HB That checks to see if they are in the same faction then boot them from the party.  The other way to stop them from partying is to make them not want to by not giving them XP if they are grouped.  But then you are right back to installing a non standard xp system.

The Bioware XP system itself has no hooks into it.  That is why most builders find it easier to just disable the Bioware XP system and install a new one.  I agree with kalbaern take a look at   Blasco's Fair Kill XP
