A heads up....
« on: July 31, 2016, 04:51:37 am »

I havent seen it posted here yet but apparently these forums are getting shut down soon. Is there a plan for movement and continuation in the works? Or saving critical resources?

Do we have any indication of when this nebulous "soon" might be?

An hour from now? A week, six months... or right now whilst I'm halfway through a sente...*#%!

*#%!...tence?

Oh... apparently not quite that soon, but DAMNED NEAR IT...

Rummaging in the Big Box marked "Ultimate Cataclysm", I find that apparently this site will cease to exist on August 26th this year. Just weeks away.

Apparently it will remain in a Read Only state until October 25th. Then... nothing.

(Except KotOR, for some reason, which, my own occasional posts there concerning creating KotOR Modules in NWN notwithstanding, has been little for years but whining pitifully and/or angrily for a KotOR III.)

Everything else is getting its Dodo suit on as we speak...

Nah, the KotOR forum is getting nuked as well. You're confusing it with SWTOR:

After great consideration, we are closing down the BioWare forums, effective August 26, 2016. The Star Wars: The Old Republic forums will continue to operate; however, our public boards for Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and legacy BioWare titles will no longer be available.

Ah... still doesn't make a lot of sense to preserve just one thing... less sense, actually, since from what I heard SWTOR was far from a popular success.

Another recovery plan is being discussed here and here.

I'm hoping we can merge this site's content into the Omnibus, as a searchable archive of all past NWN builder information. Also, using the new vault for future discussion, with better facilities for script discussion.

Over the years (in a few different guises) I've truly enjoyed these forums as well as the previous incarnations.  I've met so many great people, learned how to mod the best RP game ever made, spent thousands of hours reading posts, modding, learning, playing, and even on rare occasions arguing.  Expect for one, I'll never meet any of you in person, but the impact that you've had on my life collectively has be profound.  Immersing myself in NW has been a way to get through some hardest events in my life--reading about the intricacies of emitters, tile set creation, animations, and shadows (I never fully understood those) has been something to keep me from thinking about things out of my control yet terribly painful as well.  You've all helped, though you didn't know it.  I wanted to thank you all--it might mean nothing to you--but you sure where always there when I needed you.  I am profoundly saddened that these forums are coming to an end.  I guess nothing lasts forever however much we wish it would.

We have, collectively I believe, enjoyed your company as well.

I haven't seen a consensus on where folks may be traveling to at this stage, although I have seen a couple folks decide that enough is enough and sadly say goodbye.

There's been quite alot of activity on the nwvault boards lately.  The game has moved from several different forums in the past.. from Interplay/Black Isle to Bioware to these EA forums, so it's just another move.

What are those locations?  The only one I'm aware of is http://neverwintervault.org/ I'll still be around...it's the only game I've played in the last 7 or 8 years.

That's the one.  I'd encourage everyone to go over there. The forum there should be better at some point. If we all scatter to different places there won't be a community.

I'm going wherever 3Ravens is going, 'cause she understands...

And yes, with so few people left in the NWN Community - it's a thriving community in much the way Innsmouth or Dunwich is a thriving community... well, maybe not quite like that - that we haven't got the numbers to go spreading out. It'll be like ten miniature Communities with two people each... Cosy but pointless.
