It's Raining Inside
« on: June 27, 2016, 02:11:02 am »

While playing through the original campaign, I've noticed that it's raining inside - specifically in one spot inside the mercenary barracks in Port Last as shown in the screen shot below. It's also occurring all over the place inside almost every cave as if Neverwinter Nights thinks caves are an outdoors tileset when they should be indoors.

Anyway what I'm wondering is this likely an issue with the skybox override I'm using going places that it shouldn't or an issue with the tileset having indoors spots flagged as outdoors thus allowing it to rain where it shouldn't. I would have passed this off as a leaky roof except that it's nice and sunny when I go outside plus the issue with rain in caves.

Although I have a tileset override going, I'm just using the textures from it - NWN should still be using its default .dds, .mdl, .set. and .wok files.

edit- Ignore the apple logo on my desktop as that's just part of that menu. Computer is a PC, Windows 10. I'm not trying to run NWN on a mac.

A tileset doesn't define if it is interior or exterior. There's a default setting for each standard tileset up to the ones from patch 1.69 that's in areag.ini. But even if that is set to interior it can still be set to exterior in the area properties. So if you get rain in an interior area that has nothing to do with overrides because it's controlled by the area properties.

Thanks Zwerkules. I'm planning to replace the default tilesets properly, but I wanted a better understanding of what could be causing the indoor rain before I got too committed to specific skyboxes/tilesets.

In the set editor, there is a flag for interior. Check the SET file in your override to see if it is set.

The interior flag in the set file controls the behavior of the mini map. In interior areas adjacent parts of the map are not revealed if they are behind a closed door. In exterior areas they are revealed.
This setting is not overriden by area properties, but it doesn't control anything else.
So you can make an interior area that has night and day changes and weather effects, but mini map parts behind closed doors will not get revealed even if the area property says it is an exterior area.

The default values of night and day lights and fog as well as weather and sounds are defined in areag.ini.
Those are applied when the area is first created, but get changed by the user in the area properties most of the time.

I can't remember which switch does it, but one of the two interior switches also controls how glowing objects appear. But I think again that is the area file.
