TO's Reskins / Overrides / Addons
« on: June 23, 2016, 04:32:58 pm »

I'm working on haks to help blend a few tilesets together so that they mesh well together while using them. Well and to give them a little different look for my taste.

I have narrowed my scoop so that I can manage my projects myself without getting over whelmed.

Tonden Ockay's Project Website: toprojects.tk

I will be uploading these reskins / overrides / addons to the vault, which can be found HERE

NWN Standard Forest Addon by " The Vast "

I have tweaked just a few things for my own taste, but not much.

This tileset would be used for a little thinner woods and/or for hills.

Wild Woods Reskin/Override

This tileset would be use for more of a Deep or Thick forest.

I have been trying to find the right universal roads/paths. What do you all think of the one I'm currently using? Do they blend well with both tilesets?

Lovely work.  I think the road blends better with the Wild Woods reskin.

Ya I think so as well, but I used the same floor, grass, tree bark, and road. So it makes me think its just because the standard forest is flat, while Wild Woods has a bumpier ground.

If you make the road somewhat darker, it might seem more realistic, and less dry clay. I've never been to a forest where there were thicker trees and still dry clay soil. If the path is well worn, yet still seasonally affected by vegetation, you might think about putting some tiny vine shapes along the edge, maybe with some small yellow flowers. I'm thinking specifically about creeping jenny. Something also just as common worldwide is winter creeper, which is darker, but can be variegated, and doesn't require flowery stuffs.

Thanks for the insight " MerricksDad "

Is this too Dark? The problem is that the path/road I'm using is dirt along the edges and gravel in the center.

Here I was able to get the dirt a lighter while darkening the stone.

Does this look better?

I was able to lighten the last one so the stone can be seen a little in the center and the edges aren't as dark. It turned out to be a cross between the last to pictures i posted.

I actually really liked how the road looked in the first group of screenshots where it is just light colored stones without the dark colored dirt.

i like your last picture. Personnaly I would try blending the road with the forest with the idea to make road/trails less easy to find. Perhaps using lighter tones for mud.

I think you are getting there, but maybe a bit too dark in the dark spots. I researched a bit of "wooded path" and found that many of the leaf-less forest floor settings have your original sandy clay trails. Granite and lime mountain trails have similar light colors, but they'e usually so dry that the leaves also stay on the path longer, unless heavily worn, or constantly cleaned. Perhaps add more leaf texture to the edges, allowing it to soften not only in color, but also in texture with the surrounding forest floor. Keep the center darker, but only where there are no leaves to conceal the path.

A more west-coast feel, or even north east forest may have a large quantity of floor moss, especially along the path edge. A great lakes path would be primarily dark in most places, but not as dark as you have in the last picture, and with splotches of lighter clay or sand.  This image has some nice colors you might be able to steal.

I went for a more blended look and came up with this.

Then I took the stones out of the center of the path and came up with this.

I'm not sure which I like more. Without the stone in the center it does look like an all dirt path. However with the stone in the center it now looks a little more worn in the center of the path.

I like those last ones. To me the brown on the side is not dirt but is more trampled leaves so should have a color close to the dried leaves on the forest floor.  I doubt anyone is going around raking these paths.  You might try lightening the edges to be a bit closer to the leaves and then maybe darken the stones. Not sure if that would work, but based on the the first picture in the above post, it might.
