Custom Content Challenge: January 2016: Ruinous Intent
« on: January 02, 2016, 02:19:22 am »

The theme for this month's challenge: "Ruinous Intent":

Ruinous Intent: Not necessarily just ruined buildings. Could include such things as ruined pictures (or even pictures of ruins), shattered statues, despoiled books and scrolls with missing passages, tornado blasted trees etc.

This theme was suggested by Tarot Redhand.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.

  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine.  Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).

  • Teamwork is welcome.

  • Beginners most welcome. Don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!

  • "Custom Content" includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.

  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by February 1st, 2016. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

  •

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • 2da lines needed.

  • Screenshot from in game for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie). Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga

  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.

  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.

  • Any credits you would like listed.

  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).

  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.

  •

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month's theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

    We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

    And finally, you can:

    Submit theme suggestions.

    Vote for February's theme.

    Email content to: NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com

A sort of neo-classical, Greco-Roman, kind of a temple type item thing object...

    SEE how ruined it is!

    Acropolis1D.jpg

Please forgive Starbright's sudden New Look - her third this week alone - as Fifi has started trying to nail her own wardrobe to some of our characters and so everyone's suddenly gone all Goth and become fixated with leather and lace...

    Acropolis2D.jpg

I had lots of plans for this month's subject, but it now looks as if I'm going to be a lot more busy than I thought with museum stuff, so I don't know if I'll get round to the so-called plans since I'm still piling all the new Maldrapur Chronicles stuff into an immense box... and working on those Dinosaurs...

Suddenly, horrifyingly, you can also put the rubbished temple ruin in places OTHER than deserts!

    Acropolis1F.jpg

The same ruin as the above post, only a different texture version which fits in better with forests and swamps and stuff. The deserty textures on the other version are good in Drylands and so on, but look a bit bright and sun-bleached for the middle of a damp pine forest in the murky realm of Bogmurkia... or wherever...

                   I have some ideas/requests.

The first is some fallen door placables. Horizontal versions of the regular doors for when you want some smashed in doors.

Further maybe some ruined buildings that are also still in use.

And for some ruined nature maybe an uprooted tree or snapped trees.

There already are a few smashed down doors in the CEP - not that we can't have more.

There are also a scattering of fallen/cut-down trees, even one amongst the 1.69 stuff. (Not that we can't have more of those too, of course).

As this topic was my suggestion I thought I better try to do something. Here is what I am working on.

    Gallery%20Wall.jpg

As you can see the textures are done, just got 2da and models to go. BTW those are 50% of real size on that wall.

    <edit>

The battery on my mi-fi (internet via cell/mobile phone network) started to run out before I could describe these. Got enough charge to finish this post now.

These are all derived from images found in various places on the net. I'll describe them, starting from the top left and finishing at the bottom right.

    1. Through the endless night of space, the remains of the once great turtle drifts. The city on it's back little more than a burning ruin. Survivors flee in great craft even as their foe launches another attack.

    2.
    3. A wanderer enters the ancient city. Like fungi growing on a rotting log, the dwellings of today grow from ruins of the past.

    4.
    5. High above the valley, the ruins of the ancient temple sit amid an oasis of the desert plateau.

    6.
    7. This drowned city is no ordinary ruin. Long ago cursed by the gods for unspeakable acts, the inhabitant's lives were snuffed out in mere moments. What treasures were drowned with them? Perhaps the adventurers on the boat will discover or perhaps they too will perish.

    8.
    9. Once these halls rang with courtly laughter. Then the witch of the far north sent here minions to exact her vengeance. Now all lies in ruin and ice.

    10.
    11. Explorers digging deep below ground came across a strange subterranean building. Temple or palace they could not tell. Almost all of it reduced to near dust. All except this one broken wall carving. Why it survived none could tell. Perhaps it might be better if they didn't know...

    12.
    13. Surrounded by her feline friends, the thief dreams her dreams of unimaginable riches while sleeping in what is left of the once vibrant desert city.

    14.
    15. Far out on the tundra one sometimes comes across these ancient arches that time has smote to near ruin. Who, when, why 0 no one has the answers. Even the gods begin to forget...

    16.
    17. Gazing sadly at the ruined church on the hill, the fallen angel, her wings in tatters, weeps for her loss.

    18.
    19. All that remains of the once great keep are these fragments. The forlorn arch and connected shattered tower so lovingly here sketched.

OK, done and sent in. Here's three views from in game.

    Look left...

    Then look right...

Finally walk over and take a closer look. This gives a better idea of the in-game scale.

Fallen and broken statues, anyone ?

When you mentioned this. This is something I really dont like in CEP, I mean having several versions of the same statue.

Wouldnt be possible to make the fallen/broken version using placeable statuses? Like placeable doors can be activated/deactivated/destroyed? That would save so much resources.

I like the way Shadooow is thinking there. Is it possible to have a destroyed state on a placeable persist as a ruined appearance?

Forgot about the ruined temples a bit in the preparations for departure... Just now remembered.

Thus, since before the end of the month I'll be a thousand miles away from home, with two lovely but irretrievably insane ladies, in the remotest, wildest part of India available, I have thrown the mushed temples in a not very big box at all and posted it in NOW... since otherwise I'd forget again and nobody'd see them for millions of years... not that they're all that exciting or anything...

How about some atmospheric elements for a haunted house? Broken dirty windows, decaying walls, broken bannisters, tilted and torn paintings, filthy rotten walls, damaged stairways, dried blood stains, broken piles of fallen plaster, decaying curtains, ripped and torn mattresses and furniture, and a cobweb-covered dining table setting.

Had a look and I can't see any dried blood stains on the vault. What I managed to find were the following -

There may be others but with a (makes a hawking sound followed by what sounds like a spit) tag based search facility...

I meant specificaly trees that have broken and fallen but the fallen part is still attached to the stump. Like this one:

    http://northiowatoda..._2011-07_16.jpg

With an uprooted tree i was realy hoping it would be possible to have a big tree that fell with all its roots still attached leaving a hole where it stood. Like this:
