Merricksdad's Middledark Tileset

Well I've found I'm completely within my limits so far, except his house is too close to the property line, so my noise is over the limit because I'm building right next to his house. What he needs to do is clean up his property (or the landlord should do it) and remove his illegal side porch, which amplifies the sound. That thing is right next to where I am putting my shed. I've still got 64 feet of fence to do, and about 60 feet of new railing. And that's just in the next 30 days or so. He was so nice the first few times I talked with him, but now he's just gone berserk.

Only if they are tall fences.

The city requires that I be somewhat personable, and limits my fences to 7 feet tall. My back yard is at least 20 feet higher than my house base, so I can see him and hear him really well. I'm thinking that the city doesn't restrict my number of fence line trees, so white cedar/arborvitae sounds like a winner to me. There's a tall and dense variety I think called Emerald Tower which should do nicely.

There seems to be only 3-4 underdark tileset items I can't find yet. It's confusing how they build these. Sometimes they put the unity asset directly into the tile mesh, adjust the shape and scale, and other times, they seem to create a reference to an external file. I like poking around for both, since the on-tile ones are often modified so much that they give a good variation set if I extract multiple copies. I'm still looking for the frilly blue mushrooms, the yellow and gray fungus piles (underdark barrels) and a few other minor placeables. Other than that, I have finished extracting all underdark parts except lava caves and gracklestugh.

Oooh nice! Are the placeables NWN-ish ready to go or is this only extracted stuff? '<img'>

This is just extracted so far. I'm going to build a script to re-center and export to textured NWN format. I have all the files (40k or more) in NWN format so far, but they're not textured, and they crash NWExplorer at the moment for lack of some details. What the pictures show is GMAX meshes ready for export, give or take position and scale resets. On a few items, I plan to do some hand manipulation so I can get the back-side repaired or replaced, so they can be in-room placeables, not just against-a-wall placeables.

Since I downloaded the expansion, I can no longer access Forlorn Cliffs in the game. Not sure why. Anybody know how to fix that? Is there a file I can delete and Steam will repair it?

100 more objects pulled out of the "Cave" subdirectory. Many of these are prefixed with Grackle or Duergar so I think "Cave" is a sub-map for gracklstugh, but I can't figure out which one.

WT4LqQ7.png

Anyway, this prompted me to re-sort everything by prefix. There are only a few non-tile meshes which are not prefixed for the major location they go with, so I separated shared resources into a new subdirectory by prefix. This shows me that even in the "DC" and "drow" prefixed content, some of that content was in the shared resource files. There are also aparently a lot of other resources that don't get packed, because the folders have a few textures or object each which point to things like tavern_ inn_ or town_, yet there  is no folder for these. I suppose on their master copy they have a LOT more resources under their control that we don't get to have on this end.

I'm trying to figure out if these numbered unnamed resource kits have anything useful in them, or by useful, I mean actually used in the game. Or is it just that the numbers are update indicies, and that explains why each one is slightly larger than the previous? Can't tell yet, but I guess I'll start with the large ones and work my way backward to the tiny ones, looking for resources I haven't seen yet.

One thing I am seeing is that the folder layout is an absolute mess. There are gigs of duplicate files they could have cleaned up. Just like with League of Legends, these companies have a great deal of needless file use on your machine. Sloppy work all around. Gigs! Exact copies! Madness!

I'm working slowly, one by one through the files. With each file I open, I gain between 100 and 500 more resources to examine, on top of the 15k duplicates. But I did notice that they seem to be packaged to represent an area. Each area is packed in such a way that it contains a copy of all the meshes, materials, shaders, and textures for everything in that area. I guess that is good for load speed, having it all in one pack file. But doesn't it seem like there is an easier way to do that, without packing everything. It isn't like it's compressed, and we're talking unity assets, which anybody can get at. Silly I guess. Times have changed since 20 years ago, but some of the software and graphics guys have not.

I fount 160 new pats for Mantol-Derith this morning. I also found how to fix files with too many spaces, so I can get at some shapes with null characters in their names. That should open another 100 files for me.

Milestones, milestones,,,,,,Get it all done within the limited time allotted cause you can't make money out of it if it isn't for sale....Clean up? Clean up? Who has time for cleanup....Organization, not my job.....just get it done....Oh, you had it in your set f files too? O well....

That what it's like, hehe, from what I hear..

We who love what we do and do it our own pleasure take time to think of these thing. The guys and gals(of which there are never enough), who do this for a living, don't have that luxury.
