               Yesterday, I was playing the excellent mod Almraiven, and after much NPC talking, a big question mark emerged in my poor, confused gnome mind... Why, oh why, didn't we have heads with moving lips in NWN ??? Is this so difficult to do ? Any major show stopper ? How is it, we even (apparently) haven't crude asynchrone systems ? If plt´s can be animated and the moving lip animation (i would do this by an animated mouth) can be called within the talking anim. then it would be less time consuming as to rework every phenotype head model. We would need a reworked skinmeshed head for every single one of them and that is way to much work for just moving lips imo '<img'>


With the animated texture idea you could just add the textured plane onto the head part where the mouth is and thats it. But nevertheless for every single head of all the phenotypes.... '<img'>


 


I have the animates texture idea from that old blairwitch game. They used 3 frames for the head texture to talk!

I did exactly that for a npc model in the past. What you can do is to just add a box to the headmesh (exactly where the lips are) , substract the box -keep the new plane, intrude it and add 2 bones as lips. Animate them moving up and down and thats basicaly what i did!

and not to entirely throw it in, but Sinfar has just precisely this in there accessories. with the exception of a moving mouth. The eyeballs come in two shapes so far from what ive seen, and i havent really explored them to see how they really work but they blink and close and open at will and seem to work quite well. They are applied the same way how scabbards, backpacks, wings and tails are and can be manualy placed over the characters eyes.


 


So i know its been done, just in a bit of a different way

Moving eyes is easier. The models from WoW do that too. You just need to "move" the textured eyelid and eyeball (both just simple planes) in place and thats it. With a moving mouth you need to move vertices or use an animated texture. But how to call a txi animation within the a_ba or a_fa animations is something i´m not sure if it´s possible. So in the end im sure we need to rework the heads as simple as it gets '<img'>

Did you publish that model or is this a part of a greater package ?  If available this could be very useful to other cc creators an all sort of curious minds ;-)  I for one, would love to see how it works. And, by the way, I like puppets and stop motion pictures.

I could upload the head only because the model itself contains nudity in all it´s glory.... pretty detailed....lol!

sorry for the delay... wasnt in the mood to do anything. But will do this week... and "maybe" release two new human models '<img'> ... '<img'> '<img'>
