Quick little question on nwn limits
« on: March 31, 2015, 12:16:39 am »

I am thinking of doing a revamp of an old project of mine that would involve a re-ordering of the actual content. But before I proceed down this route, I need to know nwn's limits. Specifically what is the maximum number of haks a module can have and maximum number of tilesets. Now I know I've seen the latter answered before but I've got memory like a sieve.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

According to the http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Patch the maximum number of tilesets you can have in a module is 100 which was raised from 50 in patch 1.69.

Not entirely sure on maximum number of haks allowed - searching through NWN omnibus gives several different answers. Axe Murder says the limit is somewhere between 50 and 54, and Ghostdreamer says the limit is 256. Don't think those posts have a date on them, so I guess it's possible that the limit was changed at some point, and that some (or all) of this information is outdated.

Actually, on looking through the Omnibus a little more, there's a thread where they're talking about the increased tileset limit in 1.69, and a couple of people (Axe Murder and Ivanovic) say that the maximum number of haks allowed in a module is 50. The next response in the thread is from Craig Welburn (a Bioware staff member) who says:

'The number of hak packs allowed hasn't changed from 1.68.

Although now I believe the log file displays an error message if the game tries to exceed the maximum number of hak paks it can load.'

Since he doesn't correct them (and is talking about patch 1.69), it looks like a maximum of 100 tilesets and 50 hak pack is the answer to your question.

Is there a hard limit to hakpak size?

Each hak can contain a maximum of 16 000 resources.

I'm not aware of any limit in actual file size - I've seen haks larger than a gigabyte.

HAK resource limit is that magic number of 16217 or so.

Maximum number of HAKs is about 50. I tested this once but did not write down the results so I just go with 50.
