Further to the recent sequence of posts on my ALIEN thread regarding the huge, dark, sprawling industrial complex of Facility 13, where Alien vs Demoness 2 takes place, here's a look at the first of the two "subsets" of the Facility 13 Placeables, minus all that tangled industrial stuff and blob-shaped reactors, etc.

Because tangled industrial blobs are well known to look a bit silly in gleaming, shiny silver.

Colony1a.jpg

A Toolset image of a small colony constructed in precisely two minutes by the simple miracle of "PHoD Handy Colony Building Set Mk1". Obviously this is just the basic colony layout without assorted Placeable crates, vehicles, dirt, etc and without any inhabitants. Naturally you'll need to install some colonists so that the huge, rubbery Spleen Monsters have something to eat when they inevitably attack.

This colony layout just happens to be what I threw together on a whim, for demonstration purposes. The point of these Placeables is to be able to make any layout you want, from a couple of labs up to a whole township, very quickly and easily.

Yes, I know, the silver isn't VERY shiny and gleaming, but by comparison to Facility 13, these buildings are pristine...

Colony1b.jpg

These are a few shots of that same basic compound from the above post, this time in-game; still just the actual Colony Building Set parts without any additional Placeables or Creatures to "bring it to life".

Colony1c.jpg

I nailed this one to a desert, but obviously the whole point of these is to allow you to erect such colonies anywhere you want, jungles, tundra, plains, mountains, even underwater... though what the point of those perimeter walls would be underwater I have no idea...

Colony1d.jpg

Just ignore any and all dents in the buildings. Brick marks. Unavoidable side-effect of manufacture.

And the other subset... Same stuff, just different textures. This one's supposed to look potentially menacing. The sort of colony Obvious Evilists lurk in...

Colony2a.jpg

Toolset image... A rather more symmetrical and disciplined layout than the previous example.

In-game...

See, I told you it was a blatant Evilist Fortress. It's crawling with Daleks.

Colony2b.jpg

Having got all the new Facility 13 stuff done for AvD2 now, plus these subsets, it just remains for me to heave some of the older stuff (already seen on the Doctor Who thread and elsewhere) into the big sack and then it can be thrown heavily at the Vault as a resource for ridiculously whopping futuristic buildings and things. Then I can get back to more eldritch, ancient whassnames...

Um... Not necessarily futuristic, per se, but the textures suggest precision-cast metalwork so maybe...

Anyway, short of starting the CWP - Community Weirdo Project - I might just as well stuff my ludicrous rubbish into any big box with an even halfway related label...

My Placeables 2da calls this the "Lumpotron", but that's just pathological lunacy on my part. It's just your average huge, weird, metal blob with bits on. I don't know; somebody might find a use for it - yes, I am thinking of you, Angel!

Lumpotron1.jpg

Also, the Lumpotron comes complete with a small set of official Lumpotronic Extras - such as this stupidly angular and lumpy Metal Sphinx... or possibly concrete... Whatever, it doesn't look ancient so it's going in the big box of allegedly futuristic stuff.

Lumpotron2.jpg

There are also Lumpotronic Pillary Things and Lumpotronic... er... sort of... um... kind of abstract metal shape things... You know, weird stuff.

Damn. I really need to start writing these posts out three days in advance and making sure I know what the hell I'm talking about.

A hundred? Damn - I only thought of ninety-nine...

I suppose I could also use the main dome as an Unfeasibly Massive Cyborg Cactus...

Anyway - here are just a few of the KotOR spacecraft I converted a while back. As far as I know they've not been available in NWN before 'cause they don't exist as separate models but are fixed parts of the world geometry. But I hit them with bricks and cut them out along the dotted lines and so now they're NWN Placeables and are also going in the big box...

"We're going to need a bigger box."

Two questions.

  1. Are you sure you've got a box big enough? '<img'>

  2.
  3. Are you going to add those interesting skyboxes as well or have you previously released them?

Tarot:- 1, I've got Ultimate Epic Boxes, have no fear... 2, there will be a PHoD Weirdo Skybox Collection relatively soon in another big box.

But, as with my KotOR craft above, not to mention all the ALIEN stuff, it seems pretty much every spaceship previously available for NWN has been heaved out of some other game by somebody... But now, suddenly, horrifyingly, the Shabby Hyena Loony builds new spaceships unrelated to films and appearing only in NWN! Further to examples seen on the Doctor Who thread, here, for instance, is a nice sensible spaceship...

PHoDfreighter.jpg

This is a deep space freighter I built for my KYRU series. (It's a lot bigger than it looks - Velpa is actually standing on a big, snowy hill in the foreground, which you can't really tell). Note how it looks more or less feasible and not at all silly.

But here, on the other hand, are some not at all sensible spaceships...

PHoDufos.jpg

Yes! Classic Unrealistic 1950s style Flying Saucers are now available for NWN! Note how I have skilfully made these models so rubbish you can almost see the wires holding them up! Almost as Utterly Pants as Plan 9 From Outer Space, these daft UFOs come complete with a guarantee of Ultimate Rubbishism... I mean, I suppose you could try using them sensibly but, somehow I have this eerie suspicion that they'll just remain clinically ridiculous, no matter what... At least, nobody's going to take them seriously after that screenshot anyway.

I have been hunting for Flying Saucers in NWN for ages

This might inspire me to whip up one of my many, many side-projects I need to get started on...

I don't know PHoD, can your demoness in the French Maid outfit scream like the women did in scifi up until the 70s?  You know, that piercing, hands on the side of her face, eyes wide, trembling shriek of pure movie terror?

@PHoD I love 'em. A couple (all right 3 then) of little thoughts. The top space ship does indeed look new but the globular part bears an uncanny resemblance to globular part of the discovery from "2001:A Space Odyssey". Love the faux poster but nevermind Plan 9 ( voted worst movie evva), the poster itself reminds me of Ray Harryhausen's "Earth vs. The Flying Saucer's" even though there are marked differences between your and his flying saucers. Oh and I did catch the anachronism in that picture hay, hay (hint, hint).

@CaveGnome I've got a load of spacecraft/sci-fi stuff in 3ds format that I haven't got around to converting. PM me if you want to try and I'll make a big lumpy parcel  (I haven't got the resources that PHoD has) for you.

@3RavensMore They still do that on some tv shows, it's just that now the boys join in as well (GAC anyone?).
