A Trick for Doors in Placeable Buildings (Non-Tileset)
« on: December 14, 2014, 12:24:34 am »

If you decide to use a building placeable in your module, you will need to use a door placeable along with it, and fiddle with scripts to get your transition working.  Or so I thought until rolo_kipp reminded me of an old trick.  if you want to have a proper door, with area transition, for your placeable building, just do the following:

1)  Place a building tile near where your placeable building is.

2)  Place a standard door in the entry of the building tile.

3)  Find that door in the asset list on the left-hand side of the screen, under map name, Doors.

4)  Right click on the door in the asset list, and choose Adjust Location.

5)  Fiddle with the X, Y, and Z co-ordinates, and apply, until the door from the tile is in the doorframe of your placeable buidling.

6)  Delete the tiled building, and enjoy your new door, complete with proper transitions, in your placeable building.

Over the years, I've occasionally used incomplete tilesets that lacked any door placement options with the tile selection or a few where the doors all used tileset specific ones. You can create a builder's hak version of a tileset lacking doorways and add a generic door to any tile by editing the .set file. Then drop doors as needed, move them as described above. Switch back to the original hak version and there's no need to change the terrain at all. I've done the same with some small tilesets that lacked anything other than a tileset specific door too. Generally, I just set the Z axis to 5.00 or higher so they stand out easilly when adding a generic door option in a builders hak. Anyhow, just another option, tip, trick, card up your building sleeves.

This is for placing proper doors into buildings that are part of the Placeables section, not part of the tileset itself.

But thank you for your tip, as well, for dealing with doors lacking in tilesets.

That's generally how I use my own tip, to place doors into placeable buildings or even a cave-type transition under a waterfall, etc... . I just explained how to do it when the tileset does not have a door option available or suitable to such purposes.

What i do is use the Generic Bioware Placeable Doors (The secret wooden or stone doors) over placeable houses.

Then place a regular door over a tileset door frame

then adjust x,y,z access

your tip is definitely good tip for beginners, id definitely bump this!
