Lamenting Idosyncracies
« on: September 07, 2014, 11:27:19 pm »

All right this driving me nuts. Here is what I am trying to do. I am trying to create 2 separate versions of the same scroll, an unidentified version and a identified version. The scroll is non-magical but has some strange (but intelligible) writing on it in the form of rhyming couplets. The reason for 2 versions is so that the true identity of the scroll can only be revealed in conversation or by some other plot device and not by an identify spell or other game mechanic.

So I use the item wizard and create a scroll called "Mystery Scroll" and put the relevant information into it. I used the blank scroll as the template because I wanted to use the green scroll icon. Now in the toolset it shows as "Mystery Scroll". However in game it shows up as "Blank Scroll" (when you hover the mouse pointer over it) both on the ground and in the inventory! I suspect that this is because that is what the base item is called and the toolset won't allow you to change that!

If that is the case it's (to put it mildly) NUTS!!!!! Do I have to faff around with baseitems.2da just to get 2 scrolls working properly? If so I might as well make a new icon to go with them!

This worked for me.  I went to the "Crafting/Tradeskill" category, selected "Blank scroll", edited it changing the name and tag, saved the item.  Then I placed the scroll and it shows up in the game as "Magical Scroll" the name I gave it.

EDIT: I tried your method as well and it works for me, too.

EDIT2: Are you placing item properties on it and not identifying it? The name of the base item is displayed when something is not identified.

Arrrgh! Schoolboy error! I did indeed forget to mark it as identified. My only excuse is the (head) cold I have got at the minute. Mind you the name I gave this thread might make a good name for a module  '<img'> .

Thanks for that.
