Done with the animation except casting cycles and fine tuning. I've bent and scaled Draygoth's lower poly gorilla model to wrap around my freemodel gorilla bones. It has an appear animation meant to be used up against a tree. The gorilla will start 20 meters up a tree and begin a spinning swing down to the ground, going around the trunk about twice. I haven't defined a disappear animation.

The textures on the brown and black are also Dragoth's packaged textures. The gray one, while not yet perfect, represents an ancient gorilla. I was thinking to do an albino, but the lighting/smoothing on the skin is screwing it up. I may have to tweak the shininess level for the texture to show proper contrast. I also modified the smoothing groups and reduced the amount of tverts. For some reason, the Q version had all tFaces detached. I happened to spot them while trying to determine what was wrong with the conversion to TGA from the packaged DDS files.

The run animation still has a bit to go, but the rest seem to be good. The gorilla does not really take an active bounce in combat, so I decided to just model him as such. He just kinda moves here and there and kinda just swats people really hard. If I could have done close combat/wrestling moves, that would have looked nicer.

He's got head-look which is decent, though I may reduce the range of motion since he has a neck node which is pretty large.

Early Bar-Lgura. I plan to do the 6 clawed fingers, some big nasty black teeth, and maybe some minor horns from the brow.

Draygoth and project Q still get the credit for the model. All I did was rescale it, move the arms, and redo the animation.

Just fantastic stuff there MD.... '<img'>

I can hardly wait to see the variations.

<back to the savanna>

I can report that I have the following critters working (less shadows) without crashing my toolset :

Saiga, Thomson's Gazelle, Gemsbok, White Rhino, Oryx, and a Bongo

The Giant Sable antelope, Wildebeest, African Buffalo, and Black Rhino are resisting but are looking good so far...

<depending on RL I will try to get a few more operational>

At the risk of being labelled racist (most definitely erroneously) by some, I am curious why no one has done (or apparently proposes to do) any of the pygmy peoples such as those that live in the jungles of western Africa.

I know that someone back in time did pygmies and they are pretty good.

And those "fangs" the one above has... hey welcome stranger... you are just invited for dinner tomorow...

No serious. They look very friendly (- the teeth)! Much more friendly then the average ghetto wannabe of our "modern" caveman societys... '<img'>

I actually find fascination in the fact that the teeth carving starts so early that the enamel continues to grow and protect the tooth in that shape.

I've now greatly improved the run and walk anim cycles for a_gorilla. For the Bar-Lgura, the 6-clawed feet are finished, and I also added glowing eye cones. He also needed a greater sized shadow blocks on most parts at or above the torso node. I also removed the finger nodes because he isn't using them, and they cast fingery shadows.

Speaking of pygmies, I was proposing an idea of blowguns in past here. This might be good addition and now I know how to do that technically I think.

1. make a simple type of model with blowgun in hand already

2. re-animate attack animations to suit blowgun

3. use sling in inventory for the ammo animations

it wouldnt be dynamic in the term of switching to melee in close combat, but still highly useable

@Shadooow: I tried to make a blowgun, once, as a light-crossbow, I had thought that the animation of the crossbows could work for the blowgun, but I didn't like the results....
