Custom Content Challenge: July 2014: Deities and Demigods
« on: July 01, 2014, 05:56:16 pm »

This month's challenge is "Deities and Demigods":

All Things Divine, avatars, exalted servants, items (once) owned/granted by the gods, divine boons, beings cursed by the gods (gorgons/medusa/minotaurs), Content from Immortal Ruleset/Primal Order.

This theme was suggested by Carcerian.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.

  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine.  Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).

  • Teamwork is welcome.

  • Beginners most welcome. Don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!

  • "Custom Content" includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.

  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by August 1st, 2014. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • 2da lines needed.

  • Screenshot from in game for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie). Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga

  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.

  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.

  • Any credits you would like listed.

  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).

  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.

  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I'm horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month's theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here.
When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Submit theme suggestions.
Vote for August's theme.

The Octopedal Equine is all yours, my friend... Naturally, for Norse Mythology, I've gone for the Big Dog option...

Fenris, also known as Fenric or Fafnir, the Great Demon Wolf God...

Norse Mythology 101, for anyone who isn't familiar with things demented Vikings believed in...

For many ages, the Great Wolf, Fenris, was the loyal Guardian of the Gods' realm of Asgard. Massively powerful, Fenris destroyed any enemy that dared threaten Asgard's gates.

But, one day, with blistering idiocy, after far too many adult beverages in the Feast Halls of Valhalla, a cabal of drunken Vanir, led by the even more drunken Aesir Thor and Tyr, decided in their inebriated cretinism, to trick the Great Wolf, chaining it to the Great Ash Tree, Yggdrassil, which supported all life. Being both drunk and stupid, Thor and Tyr then proceeded to poke Fenris with sharp sticks and generally torment the poor beast cruelly - some thanks for ages of service...

Not unnaturally, Fenris eventually became enraged and thus shattered the chains, tearing the Great Ash Tree up by its roots and going on an immediate rampage of epic destruction - as you do in such circumstances - killing everyone in its path.

This led to the devastating Final War of Ragnarok, the apocalypse that ended the realms of Men and Gods alike, brought about the Fall of Asgard and got everyone completely mushed...

The moral of this story is twofold.

First, always keep idiots and alcohol separate - and second... NEVER mess with BIG DOGS!

PHoDFenris.jpg

The PHoD Fenris Wolf should, by rights, be bigger. I mean, if the Viking myths are accurate, this thing is like the Canine equivalent of Gojira.

But I decided to keep it moderately small(ish) for simple reasons of practicality within the constraints of NWN. There's not much point in interacting with a colossal paw or having a Creature model so big it just gets stuck everywhere and anywhere you try putting it and is thus precisely no use for anything except getting in the way.

Since I'll doubtless end up adding it to the small, eclectic pack of very unusual Big Dogs that Lucirath owns in Demoness Tales, I scaled it accordingly. You can thus actually interact with it in your Modules... assuming you want to interact with something with Nuclear Death Hackles!

Just don't get wrecked and try tying it to a tree - trust me, you really don't want to go there!

Fafnir is a greedy dwarf prince who kills his father and flees to a cave. Lying on his hoard of gold he changes until he finally becomes a dragon and is later slayn by Sigurd.

Another name for Fenris is Fenrir.

What good is a hut without its mistress - I'll be doing the quasi-deity Baba Yaga herself.

I remember someone making a cool-looking dryad a while back that never got finished. Perhaps could be converted into an avatar of Flora?

Some other suggestions:

Hanuman  (a monkey god)

Ganesh  (elephant-headed god)

----

Camazotz  (death bat god)

Leshi

Domovoi

P.s.  that Wendonai looks like something that had an unfortunate encounter with a badly drunk plastic surgeon. '<img'>

Sleipnir, was a suggestion not an announcement; I'm afraid that animating an octopedal equine, would be too much for me. So if you are interesting in Sleipnir, please go ahead.

By my Part I'm working in a lillend, based on the Project Q medusa...

As with Shemsu-Heru above, I want to be clear, that I AM currently working on these two.

I'll be using a modified version of c_harat. I've scaled him down to a 10 foot and a 12 foot version for use with Malkizid and Wendonai respectively. I'd like to merge some animations from a_ba over to at least Malkizid, so that he can use his unholy silver sword. Ive fetched 3.5 stats for each, from the Champions of Ruin and Lost Empires of Faerun. Not sure if I am legally allowed to post that here, but in the case that I am not, I will remove them. For now, you can view their stats, and get an idea of how I intend to portray them, by viewing these zipped stat block images:

If you mean the dryad I made for the plants CCC, it is finished and I got Xaltar's permission to use the heads he made for NWN2.

Is anyone considering the deities from Moorcocks Eternal Champion (Kwll, Rhynn, Arioch, Xiombarg, Mabelode, the Dagdah etc.) stories?

I wasn't really thinking of doing anything this month, but, well, Big Dogs are always worth a few hours time and inspiration jumped up and down on me... However, today I suddenly spotted another item on my "to do" list and wonder...

What about STATUES of Gods (or Goddesses in this instance)? I need to do a statue of Kali, Hindu Goddess of Death, for two of my Modules at some point. This month would be as good a time as any if statues count.

I've also been giving some thought to doing Kali as a Creature model but those multiple arms have the same Killer Animation Nightmares from Outer Space problem as Odin's Octohorse and, being moderately not at all good at custom animations to the degree six arms entail, I'm unlikely to bother. I tried combining some of the animations from a Marilith model with a_fa for Kali some while ago but the results were a bit less than astounding. So that's probably not going to happen any time soon.

But I'll get the statue done this month, if statues are allowed. Probably going to be fairly hefty poly-wise.

Some inspiration images of european Slovan gods.

Morana - godess of the death

Svarog - god of light, fire and also smithery

Perun

In Slavic mythology, Perun is the highest god of the pantheon and the god of thunder and lightning. His other attributes were the fire, mountains, the oak, iris, eagle, firmament (in Indo-European languages this was joined with the notion of the sky of stone), horses and carts, weapons (the hammer, axe (Axe of Perun) and arrow) and war. He was first associated with weapons made of stone and later with those of metal.

He carries a mighty axe, or sometimes a hammer. The axe is hurled at evil people and spirits and will always return to his hand.

Why wouldn't statues be allowed? The theme is "deities and demigods" and anything that fits this theme even loosely should be allowed; statues, shrines, temples, etc. fit the theme just as well as creatures.
