NWN Vault Restoration

First off I'd like to thank Rolo and all the others who are making this backup possible. I just learned of the old vault's fate and I'm still shocked, even more so considering how it was done with apparently no prior notice (went last week and didn't see anything). That site was part of my life for so many years, I almost feel like my basement was lost to a fire.

Now a question: I had backed up some of my favourite modules over the years and I'd be happy to upload them if it can help a bit. What I'm wondering though is how we handle haks and other custom content? For simplicity's sake, what I usually did was to download a module and all required haks, tilesets, music, etc. and put them in a single folder, but the module author was often not the same as the hak/tileset author. Should everything be uploaded under a single project? I'm afraid things will end up becoming a big headache otherwise, but I want to give credit where it's due and I'm afraid I won't be able to track down exactly who made what.

When you add a new Project to the new Vault, at the bottom is the option to link to other Projects by url. I think that's the preferred way of separating things out, so that we don't have tons of duplicate files flying around. Correct me if I'm wrong about that though guys.

If there's anything from the last 6-12 months that we're concerned about losing, it would be a good idea to mention them, and those of us with free time can move them over to the new Vault.

How about checking http://nwvault.ign.com/ with news and or each category updated/new? If you made a list you could throw it here:  nwn1-files-wanted and here: nwn2-files-wanted  or migrate them yourself '<img'>

@DarthMuffin: try hosts workaround. Ugly, but works. Ugly because one has to know about it to try it, right?

I actually just finished migrating pretty much all the portraits under the New category in the old Vault. I'll take a look at the other resources next. '<img'>

I was going to restore the few files I had posted to the old Vault, but I can't remember any of the stuff like the old Vault ID or even how I listed myself as the author. I don't really want to mess with my hosts file to look it up. Can I just re-upload it with an explanation of what it was on the old Vault in the description?

<passing his surprisingly deep...>

*shrug* Why not?

Push the stuff (that's yours) and we'll try and sort it out.

Just document whatever you can remember to help us...

Okay, they were rather large, I don't need to break it up into tiny downloads like the old Vault, do I?

EDIT: nevermind, I see the file limit is 2GB, that's plenty '<img'>

... done.

1.69 critical rebuild is already there in Patches section. Its just not well visible because of the bad format of the entire page + the spam of my unofficial patch caused by a bug in filter which prints everything three times...

Project Catalog, filtered on Patch, only shows the Critical Rebuild I uploaded today.

Search only finds that one, too.

So, while another copy may have been hidden somewhere, hopefully the new one will be easier to find.

Thanks @Proleric,

Perhaps a section of the Vault's archives could be dedicated to the most essential primary files required by new players of Nwn

Obviously it would contain all the critical rebuilds and the premium modules (assuming there is a way to get them to work reliably)

Furthermore I propose that other updated and only the most current, stable "Game play enhancements" be stickied and included

Such as Cep24, Qv2, Shadoow's Nwn v1.71, nwncq and others. (Tony's henchmen v1.08 comes to mind)

Many of the other excellent add ins which are currently available could be left to individual choice as it is presently arranged within the Vault.

The cache would be a repository for only the most important game files, in order to maximize the ingame enjoyment of Nwn simply.

Thereby when the time comes for anyone to re-download the game files (ie a new cpu install) the most important, and time tested files would be  immediately available.

imho

I'm trying to upload the 1.69 Dedicated Server, however, it seems not to be accepting .zip files; only .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, and .png.

EDIT: If anyone else is able to upload .zip, you can access the 1.69 Dedicated Server here:
