NWN Vault Restoration

Until the backup of the old IGN Vault entries to Net Vault website can be automated, it seems to me we should upload what we still have saved, for the community's sake in general, if nothing else...

 

 

To kick-start the effort (at least till all those lazy dwarves finally get off the pot!)

 

*Can only imagine the landslide of requests coming that poor old wizards way*

I appreciate the effort, but i would wait what Rolo Kipp has to say about the restoration process. Who knows, maybe everything is already uploaded and he is just waiting for a situation like this to switch the files from hidden to visible on the new vault. Also the new vault has a crazy fast connection. If the upload is somewhat automated, i wouldn't be surprised if everything is up and running in less than a week

Indeed, I certainly hope it can be automated too... (the files have been backed up, but vault entries still need to be made for them all actually)

 

 

When I spoke to Rolo pre-apocalypse, at that time he suggested i upload my content myself, as there were over 40,000+ vault entries to upload.

 

So even in the best-case-scenario it might still take a while to restore everything... (esp with restored comments for more important works)

indeed, it might. or it might not. or it is already done. we do not know until he sees this and lets us know in which shape the vault backup currently is. does he have a large folder with all files inside? or did he manage to save it in a database with author names, description and images still attached to it (you know a setup that would allow an automatic upload)? is there a software that could automate the upload process? what is the bandwidth limitation of the new vault (does it make sense for multiple uploaders to join forces, or does Rolo have access to a Computer that is itself fast enough to fill the vault at max speed?)

 

with that knowlege, the restoration process can be planned and will probably faster and more focussed than the clustered approach you are suggesting atm

No, sadly, its not all uploaded and just waiting to be "turned on"...  *tho wishes impossibly too*

 

(If it was that easily uploaded, it would have already been done so at least a year ago or more...)

 

Obviously we are all curious to hear what the ol' wizard has to say once he wakes up and gets the "good" news...

 

(Tho I'm guessing he will probably still call for a community effort of some sort, or at least need long talks with forum host...)

 

And yes, if it can indeed be automated, then obviously my entries can be incorporated into the original posts or deleted as applicable.

 

 

Till then, can't hurt to post things ppl need that we can... (esp modding tools and tutorials to keep them all building with till then at least...)

CEP1 1.52 full, CEP1 1.68 (unfortunately i was downloading these yesterday but immediately deleted the archives - might be able to pack it backward but i would be better to have the original archives...

Everyone take a deep breath and think - what good will it do if everyone starts uploading content - unless it's their own vault submissions - they have copies of? Before you know it, we'll have umpteen copies of the CEP on the new Vault and no one will know which one to download. Better to let the people currently in charge of such project upload archival versions - for example, TAD should upload any older CEP content that is not already on the new Vault.

No aparently none of those links work now, since the IGN vault was just shut down last night... 

 

(Kind of the whole point of the current ongoing discussions, Sir FP   '>)

 

I just have a fast ISP (30 MPS cable modem) so im uploading stuff temporarily for everyone, till more official versions can be made available...

Well, it's not shut down, the DNS has been changed. You can still get to it by modifying your hostsfile and accessing the site directly via their server IP.
