baba_yaga:- A life-size Alien Warrior, working from scratch, without moulds to cast parts from, would take about two weeks of intensive work.
More often than not the hundreds of beasts in my collection each take many months to finish because I keep running out of money for materials or have to work on other stuff, etc... But they're worth all the time and effort. They're family!
As to the Derelict Tileset, the Beholder Caves were my first thought because of the organic feel, as with the ship in
Alien... The big problem is, I want a ceiling - and all the existing Tilesets that have nice tunnels and more or less do what I need have a ceiling far too low to allow the "Space Jockey" Placeable to fit without losing its top half through said ceiling. (And having spent hundreds, thousands, millions of hours making the damn thing, I want it visible!)
The obvious answer is to alter the geometry and make a raised area of ceiling, probably over a specific Tile group, to accommodate aforementioned dead alien whassname thing. For preference I want to keep the Beholder Caves based Tileset I've done for the Derelict and add ceilings, but adding them is proving tricky given that, whilst I'm fine with Creatures and Placeables in gmax, I haven't done much with Tiles, especially a whole stack of them at once...
Question - before I waste further time, has anyone already done a ceilinged version of the Beholder Caves?
That would doubtless hurry things up. I'd just have to adapt it a bit and then, once the Hive Guard and
Alien3 type quadrupedal Alien are done, I could maybe get an alpha of all the Alien stuff out for everyone to mess around with in the next month or so. He said optimistically.
(Second choice would be to try to raise the ceiling in one of the circular chambers of the DLA Sewers... may be easier in the end...)
