I'm still hitting stuff with some huge bricks at the moment.

But when I reach the stage of hitting them with only moderately proportioned bricks, if you all pay me vast sums of money - really want me to, I'll stick up an Alpha version.

Yeah, just saying the Revoltech's my main source for them. Haven't seen the movies in years

And as good as the Snake alien was, they were pretty much the best toys. Metalic paint, heaps of molded detail, awesome stuff. The Bull Alien was the first one I got and I loved that guy

Did you have the Wild Boar Alien? Ridiculous as the name was (and it bore NO resemblance to a pig anyway), the head spikes were interesting.

Anyway, working on the Hive Guard at the moment, and trying to figure out what to do about the Derelict Interior as a Tileset without it mutating into an epic undertaking that will not get finished for another six centuries...

love it. Alien is the best creature of all time and your reallife figures are the bomb. How long you need to model such a beast`?

Have you thought about using the beholder or DLA sewers tilesets as a base from which to work. The round corridors are reminescent of the derelict in the original movie and of the ship from Prometheus. For a more organic feel maybe Baba's Spider Caves might be a good base as well.

I was going to say the vents tileset someone did might be a good starting point

baba_yaga:- A life-size Alien Warrior, working from scratch, without moulds to cast parts from, would take about two weeks of intensive work.
More often than not the hundreds of beasts in my collection each take many months to finish because I keep running out of money for materials or have to work on other stuff, etc... But they're worth all the time and effort. They're family!

As to the Derelict Tileset, the Beholder Caves were my first thought because of the organic feel, as with the ship in Alien... The big problem is, I want a ceiling - and all the existing Tilesets that have nice tunnels and more or less do what I need have a ceiling far too low to allow the "Space Jockey" Placeable to fit without losing its top half through said ceiling. (And having spent hundreds, thousands, millions of hours making the damn thing, I want it visible!)

The obvious answer is to alter the geometry and make a raised area of ceiling, probably over a specific Tile group, to accommodate aforementioned dead alien whassname thing. For preference I want to keep the Beholder Caves based Tileset I've done for the Derelict and add ceilings, but adding them is proving tricky given that, whilst I'm fine with Creatures and Placeables in gmax, I haven't done much with Tiles, especially a whole stack of them at once...

Question - before I waste further time, has anyone already done a ceilinged version of the Beholder Caves?
That would doubtless hurry things up. I'd just have to adapt it a bit and then, once the Hive Guard and Alien3 type quadrupedal Alien are done, I could maybe get an alpha of all the Alien stuff out for everyone to mess around with in the next month or so. He said optimistically.
(Second choice would be to try to raise the ceiling in one of the circular chambers of the DLA Sewers... may be easier in the end...)

PLUSH HYENA of DOOM is back...

Apologies for silent hiatus...

Stuff happened and Fifi and I have been a few hundred miles away from my computer for the last month and so there's absolutely nothing to report here. However, I am now getting down to work on AvD again.

(I haven't forgotten I promised a rubbish Alpha ALIEN Hak... Trust me - I'm dealing with it.)

Welcome to the new forum

While I can't find ceilinged versions, check out the modified Yuanti Temple from Mondego. It splices in the beholder caves which'd probably be neat for Alien inspired things

I've started kicking hell out of the CODI Stem Interior Tileset with regards the Derelict... There's still a colossal amount of hitting things with outrageously proportioned bricks to be done so I'm not sure yet whether it's going to look absolutely awesome or hideously pathetic.

Time will tell - Chances are I'll throw the Alpha out long before the Derelict Interior gets done properly since otherwise it'll be next year before you get any prototype Aliens to play with.

And yes, I did notice that none too subtle mention of the Snake Alien. Again.

Pardon, referred to how it had the Beholder interiors cross over with the standard tileset. Could just be done with placables, but I dunno, having a whole bit of the tileset to it seems neat

WAS just going to sling the Alpha into the BSN "PHoD ALIEN" project thing, hence creating it in the first place...

But as the Projects appear to have made a sudden pursuit of the Dodo and the poor, much-maligned old Thylacine across the borderlands of the clinically extinct, that's the end of that nice, simple notion.

So, do I try putting it on the Old Vault (which I like and where I know what I'm doing but which seems to have become more than a tad shaky to judge by my recent efforts to update some of my existing stuff there) or do I try putting it on the New Vault which (grimaces strangely and begs forgiveness from Rolo) just totally does my head in the instant I see it. I have NO idea why, but there's something about the layout or some damn thing on the New Vault which has me staring in hopeless perplexity inside two seconds, every time I try to get to grips with it. Thus it causes me to undergo an instant and debilitating  encephalosplat (which is a word we scientists use to describe it when you're completely off your brain, see).

I'll try either, but with no Internet access of my own and only a set few hours a month to do stuff with this connection and all the infrastructure I've been used to falling to pieces in every direction, I need whichever's going to be quicker. Is the Old Vault really even still viable? As I say, trying to update a couple of my old pages there was a resounding example of things being completely not done anything about.

ANYWAY, the Alpha's basically "ready" to be posted somewhere just as soon as I've got a clear idea of where somewhere is.
