Head Request
« on: January 01, 2014, 06:43:15 am »

Iv found a head i happen to rather love, sadly it isnt for elves and has a tiny flaw in its texture.

Would someone be kind enough to fix the line down the center of the face, resize it for elves and perhaps point the ears to make it more elven?

I edited the plt and made some elf ears for the model and got rid of the black seam. Then I realized I have no idea what size an elf head has to be. ''
Maybe someone can tell me how to get the size and position right or download the files with the changes I made and make the head the proper size.

In NWNExplorer I got rid of the seam, but when I tested the head in game it's still there, not as bad as before, but still visible. I already took away five pixels of the hair texture and added skin texture there, but it still isn't enough. I have to edit the plt again.
I got the size of the head right, but not the y position yet.

thank-you immensely for doing such. Odd, i didn't see such when i tested it IG. though such could be due to me using similar hair and skin colors that the line blended away.

I got size and position right and the the line down the face is gone unless you zoom away the maximum distance, but then the toon is so small that you can barely see that line anyway.
Because I had to take away some of the hair texture to make room for more skin texture, there's also a skin coloured line at the back of the head now if you zoom away very far. Again, it's barely noticable.

I can make the line on the face disappear even when you zoom away, but that would take away even more of the hair texture. I'll upload the files now and you cam see if the line that remains is still a problem for you.

I changed the number of the elf-head to 017 so I could simply drop it in the override folder for testing.
Download it here.

You know there are probably a couple wonderful heads already made out there that builders do not use becuase of these imperfections. I would hate t see zwerkules taken away from his tile-sets but if anyone else has bandwidth it would be cool to see them fixed.

So. . . iv a bit of a issue. It seems the server im using such on has worries about some blow back from using heads they dont have explicit approval to use.

Does anyone know who is the original maker of the head above? I know Shimu posted it. . .but i dont know where they got it. Or where these ones came from.

Anyone able to point me in the correct direction so i can see about getting explicit approval for them :3

Another question, lets say a server wanted to use these heads but couldn't find the original creator. Since allot of stuff on nwn changes hands threw various people and its origins sometimes get lost or buried.

If they were to use them, with the promise to remove them if the original owner stepped forward and asked for its removal. Would such be acceptable?

Aye, that is a fine pickle.
As the curator of the Vault, I have my own opinion, but I think works.
First, you might want to read Custom Content Authorship Guidelines - particularly #6

... In the absence of a "usage notice" stating the author's specific intent, it is assumed that work uploaded to be hosted on the Vault is intended for reasonable and customary forms of re-use and re-distribution by other members of the NWN modding community.

Second, if a conflict *does* occur, behave gracefully and in favor of the original author.

If you can not after due diligence discover the original author or usage terms, use the content with that caveat posted where you credit authors.

I am a very strong proponent of *using* this great stuff. Put I am equally invested in protecting any rights that have been reserved.

Indeed, specially if you aquire content second hand its -very- difficult to even begin trying to find where it came from. The only reason i knew the head above was posted by shimu, was i saw his post and noticed the head.

I will take your advice however ^-^ thanks for the helps.

Elf Head 029 is an original from project Q, and halfling 162 is from FriedEyes.

The first head what you have asked about, is part of my MOD "More Asian heads", the problem of the line have been solve in the last version, also the head have some flexion now. Also your elven head 36, seems to be make from another of my heads in that MOD.
