Tileset with openings in floor/ceiling that show through?
« on: December 28, 2013, 06:04:08 am »

I've admired the skyboxed windows for a long while, and have wondered if anyone has extended this idea for use on floors/ceilings of tiles? Particularly for dungeons, where I'd love to see an 'opening' (fissure, crack, trapdoor) that gives a view onto the 'room' below. Likewise, if the tile that was copied for the 'lower' area had a variant with the corresponding opening on the ceiling, once a PC reached that level they could look up and see what looks like where they were. With triggers, one could climb (or fall!) 'through' these openings (and be jumped to the actual level/area).

Anyone tried this?

There is one such tile available for the mines/caverns tileset. I don't recall who made it, but I'm sure I have it somewhere and Zwerkules may have it in his override. The tile has a fissure in the floor that opens to a chamber with a pool below.

EDIT: I found the tile - and several others. Ziroc has them in his "Massive" HAKs for EFU, not to mention a TON of stuff I'll be mining for content as I continue to build my module.

Lord of Worms made a lot of tiles like that for the Fantasy Interior tileset.

this gives me the opportunity to share the idea of having a sky bridge type area:

like so:

static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121113005408/finalfantasy/images/e/ed/Lhusu-Mines-Bridge.png

rather than a circumference sky, i was thinkig of the ruins or crypt tileset without a pit floor and have a skybox. Its an idea ive had for some time, and somewhat refer towards what Frith5 had in mind as well.

The idea of a mountain bridgess or flying islands always gets the better of me ''

You must MINE the vault.  There are all sorts of addons out there.  I know there is a floating Island group for the Forest set at the minimum, there is also a "complete" tile-set that is sky based, with no visible flooring at all, yet you can walk across it IF you choose the proper tiles for the "bridge" aspect.

You may also want to check out the tile-sets released by CTP as at least one has floating platforms and bridges already created for it... they look like you are floating above a forest, IE you are above the tops of trees etc, complete with taller trees rising above the average level etc.

Many individual tile-sets have more content than what you might need at any given moment and require you to play around with sections of the given tile-set for the effect(s) you may be looking for.

There are literally 100's if not 1000's of tile-sets and addons out there already.  Just because the date may be what you consider to be "old" you must remember that you are talking about and working with a game that is over 11 years old.  Most custom content that folks dream of, has already been created, and in some cases multiple times by various different artists / tile-set and place-able creators over the years.

Granted, our various custom tile-set authors have gained more and more knowledge over the years, AND improved overall graphics quality by using increased texture sizes, not everything needs to be the newest/greatest texture quality  to work with.  I have something on the order of 20-30 cd's (not dvd's just cd's) that are full of cc work from way way back.  Some of that stuff STILL amazes me with what was created.

Game on, and let your imagination search for and likely find what you are dreaming of.
