Quick UVW Mapping question (gmax)
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:29:37 am »

               Harrr. :-) Modeling newb here.

Is it possible to open and edit the existing UVW mapping of the PC heads somehow, or do I truly have to set up an all-new UVW map every time I want to make a minor adjustment to it?

I mean, I could fix these two issues on this head I'm working on atm:
'Image
but I'd definitely make the beautiful shiny hair uglier while I'm at it, if I set up an altogether new UVW map. :-/ Really just want to move the bits for the backs of the ears elsewhere, and maybe find out where on earth the hairband is hidden or add it in so I can set it up for Cloth 1 or Leather 1 or something.

You need to go to the Modifier list drop down selection and select "Unwrap UVW" at which point you'll be able to edit it.

When I'm messing with a UVW that uses a .plt  I use gimp to merge it's layers then flatten the image and save it as a .tga in the directory I'm working in. So when I go to edit the UVW I have something to use a reference. That .tga has to be in the directory before you open the model to have it show up it's grey scaled, but if you have the .plt open in nwnexplorer you can generally find your way around on it.

Edit:... Oh almost forgot select the poly's via "+Editable Mesh "you want to mess with before you put the "Unwrap UVW" on the stack and attempt to edit. And If you deside you need to edit more of them save and reopen the model
and repeat as ness.

Anyhow that's just the way I go about it, good luck and have fun!

Maybe someone can tell us both a better way to attack the issue... I can always hope can't I?

... dear gods, why do I always get hung up on the dumbest issues? Just leaving out the "Modifier List - UVW Map"-step of the UVW Mapping tutorials should've been nothing if not plainly logical - of course it's not going to use the existing UVW map if I override it. Head -> Wall, indeed.

Thank you very much! '<img'> You have saved a number of ears to come, not to mention me from continuing to futilely google for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

ps: wow, it turns out the bits for the backs of the ears were *on the forehead*... as was the hairband, shrunken down to a tiny tiny size. Also: oh god I love this this is the most convenient thing ever I am going to save so much time retexturing the heads with this. :'-)
