« on: June 10, 2013, 12:38:08 am »

Ok in another topic someone  mention cat models and I mention I wanted to add all the standard PHB familars. So I sat down and start the work .2da work itp editing etc.. My request is help to get some good models for all of them.
I going to make them vfx on the PC shoulder too '<img'>

Cat       Other topic had them, but are there better ones?
Hawk   Standard good
Lizard   Any good lizard model out there?
Owl       Where the link to that cool owl model I seen it before.
Rat        Standard dire one could work, but if there a better one let me know
Snake   Standard good
Toad      Baba model done?
Weasel Any link to a good one?

I'd like to see where you go with this one.

As far as the rat goes, the non-dire one is better than the dire, but they are fine.

I can share the models and sources I have, but I have not seen a good weasel or toad. Baba's toad needs animations. Project Q has a great snowy owl. Some retexturing would be great for that one.

A lizard would be great too.

As far as teh quality of the standard hawk goes... we need a better one. Rebecca Ann did some great song birds and corvids, but we need good raptors.

FYI, I am generally dissastisfied with how poorly my own work on familiars was received, and am tempted to do a little more with them. A bit busy lately with non-NWN stuff, but I feel like I have something more to do with familiars - likely a module with the familiar framework I made. Sometime this year perhaps. So any improvements that are made to the PNP style familiars will be snapped up by me.

Thanks henesua I will look up though models sound like a good start. I have opened up all the familiars by changing there ref name to custom one so when I done CC/Module makers will be able to change them how they like in there modules and lock them into there hakpaks. I split the standards up from the other and marked the other as improved familiars. They each have their own creature palette category so will easy to find and work with them. I keep you update on the work.

               <expressing his own...>

The bat is not very good for vfx... needs skinned wings. Also the owl and falcon should be converted to the same skinned configuration as the Rebecca Ann avains, IMO. In fact, I have the owl project about 25% done somewhere ;-P

Really want to animate the toad/frogs movement better also.

<...dissatisfaction>

Well they just going to use the vfx no moving on the caster shoulder similar to monthly challenge like the parrots when the pc has them as a neck item, that allows us to give the familiar bonus (skill bonuses etc..) to the pc when they put the necklace on and we can signal the vfx easily onto their shoulder and off when unequipped or turn back out of their backpack '<img'> This is just part of my personal system. Others can do other ways. I also have share spell system in just tweaking and testing the spells. Pretty cool to have you familiar and you both with the same spells save on spells.

I incorporated all of the PNP abilities in my familiar system. you might want to rip out some of the pieces and incorporate them into your own.

I've also uploaded some creature resources for familiars that you can use.

Cats
  • Cervantes had a nice cat as part of the NWNE. I've uploaded the resource along with the others.
  • Also found some other cats some years back but lost the reference to where I got them. I then did some tweaking of their size. The models are yours to use.
  • Small Cat Voice Set was released with CEP 1.5. I may have gotten it there or found the original source. Can't remember. It is in an upload of resources I put together for you.
Viper Voice Set (along with a decent small black viper)

Regarding lizards: hydromancer - reskin by bloodsong have some nice gila monsters
http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=6019

Bats: hydromancerx
http://nwvault.ign.c...id=11158&id=382

Mouse: elryn
http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=2024

For the sake of completeness...
Rebecca Ann's birds are very good. If you recall, you fixed their fly heights for me. I really appreciate that as these birds are gorgeous, and greatly added to the ambience of arnheim. I particularly like the blue jays, crows and phoenix.
I just uploaded them in case anyone else needs them.

Hydromancer did his own version of owls as well, using the standard bird model but not skinned. They're here if you want to check 'em out
http://nwvault.ign.c...d=11158&id=3715

For weasels, Hydromancer has you covered as well
http://nwvault.ign.c...d=11158&id=3814

Baba's got the best toad/frog, but I don't believe its been fully animated yet

And for rats? Schazzwozzer made these classic old ones quite a while back

Thanks for the links '<img'>, sorry for the late reply just working on a good foundation with the custom monster palette in the toolset so it set up for flexibility. I have it now set up so you can exchange familiars out and put in others easily by just changing the words in the tlk file. Example you do not like the weasel you can just go to it tlk location and change it name and description, let say to dragon and that folder will be changed to dragon in the toolset and in game for the pc (any pc who have chosen the weasel before you changed it would have the dragon though. Now you just clear the creature files out of that folder and make your 40 version a dragon and you have a new familiar for your PCs. You can easily add more familiars through some minor editing of the palette file, 2da and tlk. '<img'>

Are you planning on releasing a comprehensive HAK with all the creature models?

Do you mean new models from scratch and/or improve some of the models from the links? Not right now. I just trying to get the new familiars in that I listed above in and open for changing in the toolset. They will have 3.5 D&D stats. The toad I will prob. have to finish up to get in.

               <smiling...>

However did you get the wings to behave?!
Suggestion: I ran into issues with the idle anims for 2H-weapons (staves, especially). You may want to keep the VFX on the left shoulder...
