Recdently I tested some robes for someone who I will not mention (if they want to tell the world that is their business not mine) . The way they worked set me to thinking. It seems to me that there is a large untapped potential with the way that robes work. Before I continue, bear in mind that all my modelling is done in Notepad++, so what I am about to say may turn out to be total rubbish. Now these robes that I tested, work (I beleive) in similar way to the robes that Lisa produced a good while ago. There is one picture that really excited me on her robes compilation vault page. If you look at the third row (if I remember correctly) you will see a pair of mer-people. I have since been told that strictly speaking the tail is not a robe, but if it was redone as a robe it has the potential to look even better. The downside is that it would take a lot of work.

The thing is I beleive that, that is just the tip of the iceberg. There is the potential here to change any creature into something else. Consider if you will a curse - the curse of the chicken legs. A wizard/witch/et al casts a powerfull curse and hey presto, the character almost immediately stands there with the legs and feet of a chicken, but the torso upwards of a man. Then there is the possibility to create cyborgs. Yes I beleive there may well be problems due to the way that robes work, but the story telling possibilities... Heck it may even be possible to make instant servants of lolth (half person, half giant spider) or even turn a giant spider into a neogi (spelljammer major monster, like a giant spider with half a moray eel sticking out of where the eyes would normally be). But anyway, as I say I am not capable of making these but I think that at least some of the people on here (given the time) can. So I thought I would float the idea and see what people thought.

Of course Robes are not the only things with potential. This time I am going to talk about gloves and helmets. With just a little imagination these could be much more than mere hand and/or head coverings. Fancy an instant pirate with a hook? Make a pair of gloves, replacing one hand with a hook. That (AFAIK) shouldn't be too hard. So you want the crab-clawed man? Well I think you get the idea. A Chicken's head on a humanoid body? Make a helmet. You girl to Hag? Ditto.

Combining hats and gloves has more possibilities. Instant puss in boots (Domestic cat head helmet, cat's paw gloves). Instant Zombie curse (you get the idea I hope).

Also, somewhere in here there should be the possibility to do the same for legs ("Arrr, Jim laaaarrrrd (clunk, clunk)).

Basically, what I am saying is try thinking outside the box occasionally. Oh and a comment as to what I am saying is total rubbish wouldn't go amiss either :innocent:. Or am I whistling "Dixie"?

There are hooks, peg legs, wolf heads and a lot of things you mentioned available. Probably no chicken heads, but certainly zombie parts and dozens of monster heads.

I think those are good ideas!  Lisa/Tiamiat did a great job producing an excellent spectrum of customization options via body part or robes or (IIRC) cloaks and they serve as workable examples for others.  She also included a great amount of documentation for modders in (IIRC) her biggest, final, which is intended to help modders attempting to follow in her footsteps avoid most of the big potholes.

@Zwerkules the question is can those be used during a game as opposed to just in the toolset. Also can the transformation be as quick as using robes, helmets and gloves? For me it's the potential speed of the transformations that is as important as what the transformation is. It's that which has the potential to really aid storey telling in nwn.

I had idea to add hand-visual effects like on the image as a robe (currently its lefthand/torch object), but dropped it because the major robe problem. You can have only one robe at a time. If you already have a robe, like my character has on the screenshot, it wouldnt be (practically) possible to make that.
