                <peering sightlessly...>

My old nemesis is back to haunt me - the "exclusive or" behavior of transparent objects.
'Posted

Now, I know the *toolset* renders correctly:
'Posted

So there *must* be a way to get the client to render correctly.

There's also the Crone, who shows Her bones through transparent skin:
'Posted

So, next I'll try playing with the .txi and also dividing up the bowl geometry.

If that doesn't work, I'll try putting the glass on the creature.

Any and all ideas are welcome :-)

               For static objects, make an a-node on your placeable (dummy node with placeable's name + a), attach your transparent mesh to the a-node.  Give that a shot.  If it's usable/nonstatic, I don't know off the top of my head what the solution is.

               It looks like a mesh not linked to the animation node where it should be, but does that usually work in the toolset? I thought it wouldn't work in game and the toolset. In which order are the parts rendered? Is the creature in the bowl a creature or part of the placeable?
The runes should probably be rendered last and if you set the transparency hint of the glass to 1 set that of the runes to 2.

               <whispering...>

The runes are part of the creature (gives a handle when its trapped inside bowl).
Tried a few options with transparensy hints, none changed anything.

I'll try linking the bowl to an "a" node tonight.

Edit: To be clear, the column with the bottle (bowl) on it is a static placeable.
The Homonculus is a creature caged within its pwk.

               Alright, can I ask a (possibly) silly question? Does it work correctly if the humungous cauldron is not transparent?  In other words is it atually the transparency that's causing the problem? You have tried it with an opaque cauldron haven't you?

Oh and thanks for using my runes (I thought you were going to use the arcane ones, silly me, as to my eyes my nordic ones are plainer).

TR

Edited so it now actually points to my runes ':whistle:'

               <feeling decidedly...>

How can I check to see if you can see through an opaque cauldron (its a bottle, er, bowl, actually :-P )? My problem is seeing Fidget through the bowl...

And I had the nordic ones strung together (they actually spell "Bioware" ;-) from the Bazaar. I *should* use the arcane ones, and they should be *glowing*, but I haven't got to that point yet :-/

               I had a similar issue on the science tubes for the More TNO Placeables.  The tubes were originally done as single sided objects (think rolled up sheet of paper with writing on one side only).  The transparency allowed me to see what was on the other side of the tube but not what was in it (eg. the other side of the tube in the case of a metal mesh).  I had to clone the exterior tube, shrink it by .5 or so on the diameter to avoid texture fighting and then flip the normals for that mesh.  That seemed to fix the issue for placeables inside the tubes that allowed them to be seen but also allowed seeing thru the tubes themselves.  The tubes are also not static (I think this was mentioned above).

That said, do you have an actual creature/PC inside the bowl?  I am not sure if there are rendering differences between those two types of objects when transparency is involved.  Does it work if you just put a placeable in the bowl?

               Ah my bad, I thought the issue was that the runes weren't actually wrapping around the bowl but floating in space.

               <polishing...>

OTR got it.
When I got home I changed the placeable to non-static and it worked perfectly. So I jumped in Max and added an "a" node and now it works static as well.
'Posted

But now I've created a new problem :-(
I adjusted the head texture and *may* have done some geometry tweaking (can't remember) and suddenly the head tracking turned off. The head is still named "head", but now Fidget no longer watches the PC :-(

'Posted

Sneaky edit: Probably because I named her head "head" :-P Adding a head node and renaming head to "head_g" :-/
I'll be putting the "head" node at the Third Eye Chakra and the "impact" node at the Splenic Chakra for use with Homonculus-specific VFX ;-)

Sneaky edit edit:Nope. Still doesn't track. Missing something...

@ TM: There do seem to be differences, but they are more related to what's static and what's not, than to what's placeable (tile?) or creature.

@ TR: The runes will be animated, floating in space.

I'm not married to them, just yet, but they provide an easy way to target Fidget for conversation. I may put the dialog on the bottle, instead as I don't like the Hom being able to be attacked. Still thinking about it.

               <hiding his...>

Fidget? No one. Nothing. Move along.
This is not the homonculus you were looking for.

*whispers* Fidget the gynonculus may be available somewhere on the grey market, however...
