                Alright everybody, we are lovers of custom content for its own sake. But I think we need to slow down here.

From a player's perspective, the only HAKs you need are the HAKs that a module uses. There is no point to downloading a bunch of content just to have it. I would look for modules that you want to play, and then go and get the content that is required to play it.

Since we are talking Custom Content, why not try a module that show cases the stuff:
Sanctum of the Archmage by Andarian

Or you could get into Fester Pot's Almraiven.

I think the re is an enhancved original campaign some where. Anyone know the link?

Others can make other recommendations.
But the point is that you should look for modules that you want to play, then get the content you need to play it.

If you really get into the art of NWN, then cme and join us in the community content challenges. This month it is focused on creating new spells and wizardy things Next month perhaps something else.

Henesua is right though - download what you need for the modules you wish to play. I forget that not everyone may have unlimited bandwidth and a highspeed connection like myself '<img'> However, you will find that MANY modules use CEP versions 1.x or 2.x

Agreed. The way I think of the difference between haks and overrides, essentially, is the difference between builder and player customization. Haks are intended for the module builder to customize the play experience provided by the adventure he has created. Overrides are intended for the player to customize the play experience he wants his NWN client to play with. Unless you're a builder and thinking of building with it, there's no reason to download and install a hak unless you want to play a particular module, and the builder of that module has told you need that hak in order to play it.

Well right now I am focusing on playing the
Official Campaign, with a character or two, and then work my way to mods with
those characters in mind. I assume I would like to download a file or few to
enhance the gaming experience, and then with mods I would download the proper
files therein. What is Project Q and CTP? And is it recommended to download the
CEP, even with having two versions for different versions of mods? Tarot Redhand, how would I be able
to download NMNCQ and change versions for the various overrides? it can make
some (by no means all) modules unplayable if they weren't designed with it in
mind

               If you are playing the original campaign I recommend you play the enhanced version.

Project Q is the highest Quality compilation of custom content available. There is a link to project Q from teh link I am giving you. If you have any questions as to how to install the enhanced versions of the original campaigns let us know in this thread and we'll do our best to sort you out.

               I wish there was a chat room or something, it would make this forum
post easier to handle.With Project Q, it was said above that it is
mostly oriented towards builders, whereas I am but a player. Tarot said that the CEP is essential, but  would I need it for the OC? I have the space.
I sit here and think about what I should download - CEP, CTP, Project
Q, and NWNCQ...? With NWNCQ, which of those downloads are needed, both
for OC and mods? With Project Q, how do I install it to my computer
while I game OC. I have the room on my hard drive and a fast internet so I could download all these all together.

                Forget all the chatter that is going back and forth. At this point it is confusing you. All that you need to focus on is what you want to play, and what is needed to play it.

You said that you would like some improvements to what you are playing now, the original campaign. There is an enhanced version of the original campaign that uses Project Q. If you want to see what the original campaign looks like with better looking art assets, download it and Project Q.

As far as installing goes you should follow the specific instructions that come with each.

The basics however are that if a file is a HAK it goes in the hak folder. See the neverwinternights.info site for detailed instructions on how to install custom content in general

               You are right, all these conflicting suggestions can be a bit daunting. Aside from the conversation, I have a question - I have the Diamond Edition, and as we all know there are patching problems. A while back I had the same problem, and on a forum I was told to run  -

NWNEnglish1.66HotUUpdate.exe- which helped at first, but now the game update wants me to do the critical rebuild. This is the message I can getting

               Got it! Thanks, I am at 1.69 now! What is the difference between Project Q and NWNCQ? I am ready to start downloading, and want to get started, and seeing as how I don't know much about all this (evident, isn' it?) I asl questions.                I'm sorry, they both sound very similar, and the only reason I haven't
d/l any one of them by now is becaus there are suggestions either way. Is it possible to d/l Project Q now and then NWNCQ later? With that said, I plan on d/l some things tonight and hope to get some game time in. I would like to see some info on haks that might be kewl to have in the OC - and when I beat the game with a few characters, I will certainly start d/l haks and overides and such.

               Forget about the custom content bro, in this I mean, decide what you want to do first then let that dictate your next step.
Are you going to play the official campaigns? Then go with the link pstemarie provided and get Q
Are you going to play a specific PW/module ? Get the appropriate hak

Then after you're familiar with that, take it a step forward.
