Calling all Creative People...
« on: October 09, 2012, 10:57:03 pm »

... with too much time on there hands.

I am in a group in University making a NWN module for a class.
At the end of the year this module is seen by bioware.

We want to do an underwater campaign with a man in a underwater suit.
While we have an artist who drew concept art, we don't have the skills to make it into armor for the character.

We are allowed to outsource for help (but we're not allowed to pay) and your name will be in the credits.
Like I said, some people from Bioware will see it.

So if you're interested send me an email at CoralElise@gmail.com
I will send you more details.

Thanks for reading!

Did you take a look at the underwater contest of last year? There is a VFX of one of those upside down fish bowls that people used to have for this. With a bit of creative tailoring you'll be close to a proper old-fashioned diving suit.

This Vault page would be the package to which Just a ghost referred; there is some great material in it.

               <thinking  up more...>

Now, if you combined the vfx_shoa.mdl (bubble) with Virusman's non-head-replacing helmets (something I always planned to forc...er, request Cestus to do - see TAD's testing a few posts down) you'd have a start on a proper diving helmet. Add in a bronze casing so the transparent areas were limited to the "glass"...

Hmmm....

@ Z: <the old wizard is chicken. does that count? ;->
Oh, hush, bird.

As you know my native language is not english so i can be incorrect in my suspicion but he/she doesnt sounds like a canadian english speaker at all and bioware´s studios are in canada/ usa right? So why would an employe of them travel to a different country just to visit a university´s presentation of aurora designed modules?  That means money for them they can spend anywhere else for developing games aye?And NWN is an old chicken for them... these guys stoped to support long ago!

Well, there ARE colleges using NWN as a basis for teaching folks.  They have been in the news about it as well.  I remember seeing multiple topics along those lines over the last few years.

Bioware does encourage folks to use NWN because it is still one of the most powerful games out there that allows you to control and create so much.  You have scripting abilities, custom art content abilities etc, giving students a well rounded (and fun) way to learn a large number of things that would go well with a degree in Information Services, or Graphics Design, and in Programming using the scripting side of things.

Lots of ways for students to get involved in how a game can be developed, without having to start completely from scratch and it gives the Instructor/Professor a way to see and control things as well.  Even up to allowing the changes made by the student to be tested in a multi user environment that does not cost a huge amount of money to set up, and can be easily set up as a client server directly on the Professor's local PC and accessed from whatever pc the students use to access the Colleges internet.

true Bannor but the question remains how a bioware employe is going to see/ review it? If they sent it in to whom? Many guys from the NWN team arent even active bioware employes right? I mean we dont even get a REAL moderator for this board!!!! damnit!! ... i love that sound where the guys screams "damnation... we´re DOOMED"!!!                I hear ya, and I definitely agree.  We provide simple requests for a moderator to sticky a topic, and it takes well over a year before it happens.  We sent messages requesting permission to get currently ACTIVE folks to be upgraded to moderator status, complete with a poll of the community and a weighted response list of folks both willing and able to help moderate.... no response at all, other than from one person that is listed here as moderator but no longer even works for said company...

Anyway, I have seen those news feeds about some colleges using NWN to help students learn, and even if Bioware no longer responds to them directly, using NWN as a learning tool is still a great idea.

I know I saw a feed from some other college in the North Eastern section of the USA, either Maine, New Hampshire or some other state up along the border with Canada.

@Bannor, I followed your link and I was very suspicious that it was just an old story that was being rehashed so I went to the West Notts College site and used their search engine with the term neverwinter. Here is a link to the results.

Ok, let me clear up some suspicions.
I am Canadian, I'm sorry I didn't throw an 'eh' at the end of my sentence =P
I actually live in Edmonton, Alberta, which is where Bioware was founded and still is.
I go to the University of Alberta, enrolled in the Computer Science program, in a class called 250, which is devoted to using the Bioware toolset for a semester project. Then at the end of the school year they make a big fuss about it and there's an award ceremony and everything.

Here's some proof.

Other then that, thank you for the suggestions above, and we're still looking. We just have back up plans.
