While the vault is flakey there is the question of where to put submissions. While I have been using dropbox, it doesn't feel ideal. The point is where can we get maximum exposure for our work? I currently think that the best solution for final release stuff at least is to create a project on here, which is what I am going to do for the little apps that I am developing for cc work. I also think that rather than waiting for the vault to be sorted (I refuse to think the word 'IF' in this context), it would probably be a good idea to use the project area on here for the custom content challenge stuff. But then again...

So what do you think?

Personally I don't have a problem with using the nexus, but that's partly cos I've used the site extensively with Skyrim, so already have an account. It's certainly a much better site to use in terms of navigating and finding out about new content than the BSN, given as this site's only NWN category to search for is 'NWN Modules' and that happens to consist primarily of random stuff for other unrelated games that project creators have been too lazy to categorize properly.

I already host all my projects on here. I dont realy count on the nwvault anymore as i used to. after all these years using and searching trough the vault for some random gems etc. it feels strange and it´s era is coming to an end imo over there. Hmm well;)

I second the Nexus. The more people that use it, the more will go there looking for great content, and the more exposure you'll get.

I vote for the Nexus. Although TBH I've been playing with the NWN2 Toolset and am beginning to find it more viable for my module.

For what I do, a combination of Projects here or MediaFire/DropBox shares covers it.  If I want it to get more attention, a YouTube video never hurts.  As _Six pointed out, there are some big drawbacks to Projects here.  Still, I like that it's on the same site and it's reasonably easy to get set up if you want to.

Nexus is an interesting alternative but after going through a sampling of the downloads there I'm getting the feeling that some uploaders are pretending that the Nexus is just like "another" Vault, which it is definitely not.  People uploading content without understanding the Nexus's extremely strict rules on giving credit, plagiarism & copyright infringement should not be surprised if their content comes under a Moderator's fine-tooth-comb review and, if it doesn't pass, is deleted and them unceremoniously banned.  Banning at Nexus is a common occurrence and business, nothing personal.  I think it is a great place to have files hosted if you can meet the high bar, though.  But I wouldn't recommend it as an alternative for everyone.

There are some less-strict but less-trafficked places with dedicated NWN download sections: SpellHold Studios, Strategy Informer, GameFront, ModDB and Curse are some that I'm aware of.  ModDB and GameFront appear to be in it for the long haul as far as supporting modders, so those might be something to look at.

IMO, nothing out there right now is going to give you the same kind of exposure that a single upload to the Vault (when it's being updated daily) would.  Getting the word out with YouTube videos, Twitter, Reddit, etc., can help though.

Errm, guys I'm seeing alternative places being mentioned. Just one thing. It would be nice if you could include links to them so that the rest of us can easily check them out. Thanks.

You know, if anyone were to decide to host a contest or collaborative project of some kind on the Neverwinter Nexus, the one who creates the file entry page can specify multiple other users to also have control over uploads and edits for it.

But the main thing I think would be useful is that file entries can have articles attached to them, which automatically show up on the front page under the File News tab.  News on such a contest would probably work well with that system.

Hmm from what I read and can see these restrictions seems fine to me. I understand someone would want to restrict his content and some folks are doing it on vault already - the difference is that vault never preserved these people's rights - you maybe remember the issue with diademus now baba_yaga and his content.

The restrictions are visible to anyone, arent they? This makes things easier, or legalized if you want, for projects like CEP which were in past accused of taking content without permissions. Now the situation is that most CC creators are gone from NWN community so asking isnt even possible - not to mention that vault emailing system doesnt work for almost year now.

Shame, that NWN nexus seems dead, some peoples are uploading the content here but it seems there is noone that would downloaded it (other than peoples from these forums). But that might be because less and less peoples have interest in this anymore...

I disagree with the nexus thing. The layout looks cheap and it is slow. I've also had lots of trouble trying to make an account. To this day, the thing hasn't been fixed, even after reporting and sending mails to the appropriate individuals. Of course, this is merely personal opinion and situation.

It's true that there is a lot of banning on the Nexus.  If you look at the Forum Rules and Strikes subforum, you can see just how much, but you can also see the reasons given for each ban, with links to the users' posts for reference, and the vast majority are banned for violating the rule against game piracy (basically, anyone who publicly admits to pirating the game gets banned), or for leaving trollish/abusive comments on modders' comment pages for their mods (the rules are heavily slanted in support of the content creators, not the downloaders).

This does create a problem, since what you end up with is a far larger proportion of banned members than accepted members, who have strong sour grapes against the Nexus, and contribute to a negative reputation.  It's hard to know which is worse: having such people on the outside or on the inside.

Also, let me throw a few numbers out there as a measure of relative activity.  I have three mods, each of which I released on both the Vault and the Nexus at the same time.  For all three of them, I have far more downloads, votes, and comments on the Nexus versions as I do on the Vault versions.

1. Nexus: 895 downloads, 32 votes, 67 comments, 10078 views
Vault: 276 downloads, 3 votes, 7 comments, unknown views (not tracked on Vault)

2. Nexus: 500 downloads, 15 votes, 27 comments, 6357 views
Vault: 167 downloads, 4 votes, 4 comments, unknown views

3. Nexus: 104 downloads, 4 votes, 2 comments, 1228 views
Vault: 75 downloads, 0 votes, 0 comments, unknown views

Naturally, I'll continue to upload my new material to both places, as long as they exist.
