A tale of a new castle tileset...
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:44:53 pm »

I just finished the basic tiles for the new generic stone castle tileset. It is a whole new set so no strange other tiles in it, just one corner tile which is a03_02 that came from my church terrain. Forget that just for now!

Enough tiles to create a generic layout but I´ll add much more, realy much more in the future. The alchemist laboratory made me do this here... There are 2 different doors and 2 bookshelfs now! The one door feature is also not as all the others. So not straight in the middle, that bugged me always. It is right on the left. Also the windows are much more better i think... but see for yourself and your Welcome to comment.

The rar file contains the hakpak and a demo module;)

p.s. the wood texture is a desaturated ProjectQ texture, hope you gyus dont mind that i used it. It is awesome!

If you have any idea about a specific feature or so just go crazy. My plan is to do another castle terrain with a more fancy wall look and a wooden floor. Not every castle level is made purely out of rocks... So yeah, fancy castle terrain, a vault corridor crosser and different window/ door features is on my priority list + the alchemist laboratory tiles.
And definately a latrine! And somewhere in the future a library like the one from the name of the rose, not with all the stairs but with the charm of the great old medieval look.

And some small improvements. The doorshapes are realistic now (used the PQ door as a base and modeled the shape around and did a retexture for it also to match my castle style) + a corner tile with windows YAY and another arched one:

And you can use this tileset for generic stone interiors too I think so not just for a castle.

Wow your fast, no pstemarie but will do add one if you request it. Just not a complex one and just a plane like maxam did for his versatile dungeon (shame he didnt improved it any further but oh well)....

I didn't comment on the first screenshots you posted because they showed too much black and not enough details to really tell what your castle was going to look like.
These new screenshots show a lot more than the last ones and I like what you have done.
The alcoves are nice. When I saw that last picture I was thinking about a gallery with wooden bannisters along that wall with the alcoves.
What do you think about that? It's just an idea and there's always the problem with the walkmesh only allowing one level to be walkable, but there could be something under the gallery that made it obvious that that part of the floor isn't walkable.

I have a tile feature that is somewhat like you describe zwerkules. A wodden stair leads up into an arch with a big window and 2 side benches. Can you please post a real photo of what you exactly mean?

This is a bit higher than I meant (two rows of windows below the gallery instead of just one or a row of alcoves), but it's the best picture I could find:

looks good Baba. Z's pic is something I wanted to show too in that castle, but its some feature that a lot of medieval aged castels to have, basically is some kind of courtyard, most of the times roofless, that is some type of core of the castle, connecting and linking the different wings... there are galleries, one for each floor of the castle, and doors... It can be a cool feature for exterior tilesets, but I do think it can be added also in interiors with a good result!! you scared me so im afraid to post pics now baba but well... '<img'>

How about a slightly raised platform that attaches to the wall which would make a good place for various placeables.  Lords like their thrones above... well everyone. Could easily see a pulpit plopped down on the platform with some holy symbols behind for the religous masses to gaze upon.  Anyways.. slightly raised platform.
